I respect Nissan but this car is just ugly. What happened to their brilliant 2000 designs that revolutionized the whole "new car look". Japs really need to work on their designs.
You idiots do not know anything about a Maxima. It's Nissan's flagship for a reason. You cannot compare it to an Accord or Camry or Malibu. Think of it as a GT as in Touring. Great engine, smart trans, predictable handling, reliable braking, great comfort and sharp looking. Stop complaining about trans: stick, auto, dual clutch, cvt; who cares. This is a grown up car for ADULTS. Get a clue and do your research before buying and writing about a car. Drive one. Then talk about it.
About the only thing you sacrifice with a CVT is hearing/feeling those gear shifts. I have a CVT with paddle shifters and once you get used to the idea you're not going be experience a "shift" while accelerating there really isn't much difference vs. a traditional automatic. The problem with most sports oriented drivers is when you omit a manual from the options list (like Nissan did here).
I believe Nissan's obsession with the C.V.T. transmission is certainly not helping their business. Ask any Honda or Toyota dealer and they will tell you their Asian competition is no longer Nissan. It's Hyundai.
Yeah its really ugly. They really drop the ball with this design. This doesnt look like a maxima at all. I maxima was at its best between 2000 and 2003. After that it gets uglier every year. When i saw this car on the road i couldnt even tell it was a maxima until i saw the nissan symbol. The back lights look like toyota camry lights and the front lights look like infinity. its just ugly bring back the real nissan please.
Funny, I think the opposite, IMO the1995-99 and the 2009-10 are the best looking, and the 2000-03, 04-08 not so much. If the 2000-03 had a narrower grill it wouldn't look so weird, but that kills it for me.
If you want a practical fwd sedan you can get a altima 3.5SE with leather for less than a base maxima and its also slighty more fun to drive and more comfortable
and if u want a true "sport luxury" you can just get a G37
I love my '97 Maxima and I like the style of the '09 but Nissan is working at cross-purposes between their stated intent and their engineering. They aim for the sport sedan market niche but cling to a front-drive platform. Adding CVT to that also undermines the 'sport' quality of the car. My advice: ditch the CVT and return to a good 6-speed automatic and introduce AWD at least as an option package. Might also consider an AWD couple variant, as they did with Altima model.
@JackKangaroo1 You are right man, AWD would be a great option even if it still had a transversely mounted engine. Nissan needs to further enhance the Max to break away from the Altima and all the FWD sedans (although it does in looks and sportiness). However I do think the CVT sounds good and is pretty fun in sport mode, but I wish they were available with a 6 sp trans. This is why my parents own a new Maxima and I own a Spec V haha. We also still have our '97 Maxi that was purchased new :D
@VanKross / Just read my earlier post and found a typo. In the last night the word "couple" should have been "coupe." If they can do a two-door version of the Altima, why not do it on the Max as well? I've never driven a CVT but reviewers often say it feels "weird" or "boring." I still love driving my 97 Maxima, which turned 190,000 last weekend and still runs like a raped ape when I tell it to move. Had it briefly up to 96 mph a week ago on a lonely stretch of interstate highway.
@JackKangaroo1 / Shit, another typo! Last "night" should be last "line." It's been a long day. I need to go to sleep. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...............
@JackKangaroo1 btw I'm logged into my step dads youtube account. fail.. but regardless of how much of a "4DSC" it is (or isn't), the new Maxima is definitely of Infiniti quality; 5 star interior build quality as well as excellent body and exterior quality. You get at the very least a classy vehicle that's all wrapped up in sexy packaging and happens to wear a Nissan badge.
@jlgarnicam / As a Maxima owner myself I do like Nissan cars but Hyundai has been making tremendous strides in technology and design this past decade and they are now even competing in the full-sized luxury car market with the Genesis model. I would suggest you do this, if you can fit it into your budget. Find a place where you can rent these models and rent each of them for one week. After a week of driving each car you will know which one you want to buy.
The Nissan Maxima has always been a good car. The new one is even better. I like it a lot. The Nissan Maxima, Chevy Malibu LTZ, as well as the new Hyundai Sonata are the best mid size sedans on the market.
Most people do not think of CVT's as a sporty transmission. However, a CVT has many advantages. For example: torque is always available, at any speed! See my VIDEO of the Nissan Maxima, in which the 0-60 mph times of its DS mode are compared to those of its Manual mode.
@StigSpielberg I'm with ya....I grew up with the original CVT, being 9 when my Dutch grandmother owned a '66 Daf. She owned several models after that, all w/the CVT. I'm sure modern technology has made 'em better, my sister driving a Freestyle with one. I'm just a stick man at heart.
Old maxima like 1989 were excellent cars for there time bose stereo, sunroofs and like. No Bmw and Audi, mercedes all had nice ones but that was it!!!! Chev,Ford all made junk!!!!!!!!!!!! Id roll a 1989 maxima!
If I was gonna get a Maxima it would be an '03, back when they were fairly small and light and fast.....That's the only Maxima I really like, the next generation put me off of Maxima's forever.
Y'all suckers can kiss my ass cuz y'all cant afford a new 1 n run ur old skool maxima. i juz bought dis car n i feel lyk im in heaven. u losers can chek out the vast differnce between the interior, dynamics, horsepower and ride control!!!
im not saying this car sucks, this car is awesome, its soo beautiful and sporty, and with premium package its a luxury car with wood and the awesome view of the sky, the only thing i hate in it is that they built it as FWD, and im soo fed up with the torque steering thing, some say CVT sucks but it doesnt, its good, fast and makes the car more fuel efficient, its just cuz of the FWD
gfed u must be a fool. no nissan vehicles are luxury they are just cheap plastic wood, light thin metal sheet, light doors that u cant slam too hard and so on. if u want to talk about sport luxury the lexus gs' 2006 + is the way to go. maximas have no class and the front wheel drive is just pathetic. Once u go Lex u will never go max. Gs460 4 life
I have a 2010 Max SV ; the CVT yields good fuel economy and makes the car luxury sedan smooth but the CVT does take away from the sportiness of the vehicle; if you want a rougher ride with crisp handling and sport performance you'd be better to get the G37 which is a true luxury sports sedan; the max, with the CVT, is a nice smooth entry-luxury sedan; the max must be doing well cause Nissan sold almost 6k in September compared to the TL and G37 Sedan which sold less than 3k each in September!
I love the look of this new Maxima. They took some fairly daring cues and the car in person looks amazing with the sport package. I know people that dislike Nissans, and they like how this car looks. The shame is that the transmission options and performance don't match how this car looks (based on the reviews I've read). Nissan should've gone one step further with a RWD layout to stand out. Having owned 2 manual Maximas, I would miss not having a 6-speed if I had this car.
Man you are a smart guy. I have the same opinion, if i had a choice for a sedan, i would definitely pick the G37 or IS 350. I mean for 30 grand, a maxima comes with a cloth interior with FWD. The G37 and IS 350 have below 5.6 0-60 times and are stylish. You get a standard 7 inch screen in the G37 sedan
That is exactly what i said. Why did they make the Maxima? It serves the same purpose as the Lexus SC430? they have no purpose. Both are too expensive for what they offer, and both dont look that nice. The only difference besides that one is a convertible and a sedan is that even with a V8 engine the SC430 is way slower than the Maxima.
an yet, people pay more than 70 grand for a car that has back rests but only has a foot of room so technically i dont know what its called because you have to lay across the back seats, no one can sit in those seats.
@bockydo they really aren't, my mom wanted to get one so we went to a couple nissan dealerships, they start out lower than the g37 but theres only a 3k difference and if you get a higher trim level, its basically the same price.
@tom11zz884 i've test driven the maxima and it is good i'm not doubting that but i did see a sticker price of 39k and you can def get a brand new, well equipped g37 for that money
Well any time people don't like to hear the truth they get whiny, or give comments a poor rating haha.
They should tweak the Infiniti M and put Nissan badges back on it, then call it the Maxima. That car makes a better Maxima than the one that's new for 2009.
Just bought this car today and boy did it exceed all my expectation! WoO Just a few more thousand ahead of the 09 Altima and had a few extra features.
yea thats great n all cause i was lookin at them too but this guy is sayin its smalled on the inside then the altima!?!?! im a big guy and my bro's 03 altima which is the new style one is HUGE on the inside. im 6'3 300 lus i have very broad shoulders i can barely fit into a lexus gs 330 so is it true about the interior size?
to be quite honest, you only talked about the bad. Next time try to start with the good part first then catch us on the bad 1's. Good review on the bad of the car Pt.2 of it please about the goods.
Always liked the Maxima, but they've reached the limited for midsize FWD performance sedans. Even with the sport package, it's no match for the TL SH-AWD or Taurus SHO.
Its closest competitors are probably the Mazda 6s Grand Touring, Acura TL (front drive), and VW CC.
The G37 is so much smaller than the Ford or Acura it's not even worth mentioning. It's also less comfortable than them too. Material quality is a step down.
I LOVE the G37, but it's just not a competitor to these cars. It's a true sport sedan. The Acura and Ford are not. Niether is the Maxima.
And the resale, and reliability of the Taurus will be terrible. We make good trucks, which is great if everyone was named "Jed", and dated a woman with zippers on the back of her jeans. Japan makes much better cars than we do, but we will improve with new leadership in that industry.
lol so what... that 3.5 that ford makes is a pile of rubbish! what looks good on paper from ford ususaly ends up in the bin with the rest of the trash! what goods a fast car if it's always broken!! give your head a shake! obvioulsy you know very little about quality and just read numbers
When you say fords duratec 35 is a "pile of rubbish" what facts do you have to support this claim. I don't buy into that bullshit for a second. The new Taurus SHO RAPES the Maxima up the BUM so bad that Nissan engineers should feel it.
The G37 did fuck the twin turbo SHO up the ass. And American cars now days really are crap that's why their bankrupt, now you want to see when America made real cars look at my vids of the Camaro and Silverado with the ol'e 350 in them, back when America made good cars. Now day's the Impala's, Malibu's all have dirt slow V6's in them and drive like shit my, 97 Altima with nearly 300k outran a V6 Mustang and a 3.5 Dodge Charger. FYI my 07 Altima IS the highest quality midsized car in its class
Yes i did, but i understand that it's hard for someone like you who drives one to admit to it. Dont worry i'll have videos up soon of the G37 and Altima doin the American cars nasty, hell just last night the G37 smoked a 2010 Mustang GT
Twin turbo mean TWO turbo's you dumbass, and the new SHO has TWO turbo's, yea it's Ecoboost, thats just Ford's engine name. So i thin YOU need to learn your cars
the Bi-Turbo is an inline twin turbo running boost through all the RPMs where a twin turbo is two seperate pipes and runs boost more like a single where you have to build RPMs to get the boost.
lol man my 05 gt stang smoked so many G37 coupe and sedan lots buddy. Iv got a vid of a 2010 GT w/ intake and pulleys beating a supercharged 07 GTO. Ran 12.5 in the 1/4. I got a vid of a 2010 SHO that ran 12.75 stock with drag radials. Ford and Speedchannel did a short show of a new LIncoln MKS with ecoboost RAcing against a few cars including Maserati, Jaguar, Mercedes, and BMW. The only car that beat the MKS was the bmw. All the other cars had v8s
Well please post some videos to state your proof, cause your Ford's are JUNK!, i would like to see your Shitstang against my boi's Chevy truck on my page you will get your feelings hurt BADLY! Yea i seen 6 VS 8 on Speed, and of course the turbo MKS had the advantage at the elevation they was racing at which was well above sea level, and everyone know's NA cars dont perform like a turbo car would at higher elevations, so imagine if they raced at sea level, the Lincoln would have probally lost
Well, my big, heavy, crappy, American, SRT8 will eat, digest, and shit out of its exhaust, any G37 you can put up against it (there just not really fast) I owned a 2004 G35 coupe. Nice car, good bang for your overall buck, but S L O W!!! Same with the 350Z and 370Z just slow cars when going up against real competition. Don't talk about the American V6's you can beat, you can always have a V8!
American cars suck. That's why their factories went bankrupt. That's why they can't compete in Formula One. That's why they can't compete at the Indy 500 either. Not a single American engine at Indy - all HONDA - because your big, heavy, crappy SRT8 and their ilk would BLOW UP and fall apart.
@jim4649 I'll give you a few days to actually LEARN & EDUCATE yourself about your self proclaimed idiocy...and then I'll reply intelligently to your response. If that's at all possible, given your obvious God given incapacity for reason.
This is a good car, but I am still gunna get a 2010 taurus sho. 365hp 3.5l v6, great interior, and awd. Cannot wait to get it. 0-60 of 5.2 and 1/4 mile of 13.8
Insurance company rented one of these for me after a small accident. LOVE THE POWER. Just stand on the gas, it never shifts, but feels like an airline pilot pushes throttle wide.
A little cramped on the inside as compared to my 07 Camry, and the ride is no where as plush as the Camry, but the power factor makes this one a good buy. Camry's also have moe trunk space. This is definitely not a family car.
Have an 09 Maxima SV and it does 0 - 60 in the 5.6s and hits the quarter @ 14.1 ~ 14.2 .. so who ever is driving this car and posting the 6.1 14.5 #'s is being a little conservative :) It's the fastest in D mode, 1200 RPM off the line.. it'll go above 6000 rpm and just stay there without losing time from shifting or going up and down the powerband... great car! Love the exhaust!
Squat while it's accelerating? I bought this car 6 days ago with Premium + Technology packages and am totally in love with it. I'm actually thankful I didn't get the Sports package, since I couldn't get both the Premium & Sports together.
I love that my particular car, which has a 'Super Black' exterior and 'Cafe Latte Leather' interior (with wood finishing) has a total lean slick and smart yet classy look while it drives like the Infinity G37 I was considering, yet is actually more spacious. A+
100x better. Audi cars have way too much maintenance. You buy this car and you don't have to worry about anything breaking down on you. Everyone that drives an Audi always complain about it! Trust me, I drive a Murano, and Im trading it in for this Maxima in a couple of months!! Can't wait!!
Accually the 03-06 VQ35DE was used in the G35 and the 350Z until 2007 where they started using the VQ35HR. Now both the G and Z are equipped with the VQ37HR. While the Maxima still uses the VQ35DE.
Thought some niXXga stole the Maxima at the end..
LOL

12345pennstatefan 2 years ago 2
the CVT trans is a waste, if it's a cary over from the Altima ..then it's a Fail big time.
on the D mode , the more you hit the gas the more you get the Rev sound in your head!. u wont feel/hear gears..it's just lame Monotonic sound.
lionheart0351067 2 years ago
in the pic when he was talking about the high rpm sound and he said G35, wasn't that the G37 sedan?
Driftkrazy 2 years ago 2
I'd rather have the G37
desimunda116 2 years ago 11
Man you are a smart guy. I have the same opinion, if i had a choice for a sedan, i would definitely pick the G37 or IS 350. I mean for 30 grand, a maxima comes with a cloth interior with FWD. The G37 and IS 350 have below 5.6 0-60 times and are stylish. You get a standard 7 inch screen in the G37 sedan
amer1cancer2753 2 years ago 4
yeah same money, basically same company but with a better badge RWD or intelligent AWD, why would they make the maxima that expensive seriously
desimunda116 2 years ago
That is exactly what i said. Why did they make the Maxima? It serves the same purpose as the Lexus SC430? they have no purpose. Both are too expensive for what they offer, and both dont look that nice. The only difference besides that one is a convertible and a sedan is that even with a V8 engine the SC430 is way slower than the Maxima.
amer1cancer2753 2 years ago
yeah the SC 430 is also an ugly car
desimunda116 2 years ago
an yet, people pay more than 70 grand for a car that has back rests but only has a foot of room so technically i dont know what its called because you have to lay across the back seats, no one can sit in those seats.
amer1cancer2753 2 years ago
yeah that is also true
desimunda116 2 years ago
@amer1cancer2753 she iis right
plllek 1 year ago
@desimunda116 the G37 isnt a good looking at the maxima, if they had the maxima with option of RWD or AWD, people wouldnt have bought the G37
hazemvirus 1 year ago
@desimunda116 As would I but these are Way cheaper .
bockydo 1 year ago
@bockydo they really aren't, my mom wanted to get one so we went to a couple nissan dealerships, they start out lower than the g37 but theres only a 3k difference and if you get a higher trim level, its basically the same price.
desimunda116 1 year ago
@desimunda116 G37 costs thousands more..Maxima is better value, and bang for the buck.
tom11zz884 1 year ago
@tom11zz884 i've test driven the maxima and it is good i'm not doubting that but i did see a sticker price of 39k and you can def get a brand new, well equipped g37 for that money

I can't wait for the SHO to come out. My mom just got an 09 Maxima which is fun and fast, but that SHO is gonna be badass.
Kooly1 2 years ago
Well any time people don't like to hear the truth they get whiny, or give comments a poor rating haha.
They should tweak the Infiniti M and put Nissan badges back on it, then call it the Maxima. That car makes a better Maxima than the one that's new for 2009.

I was watching Discovery Channel: Shark Week.
And the Nissan Maxima looks like a great white shark...

TheNewMrCool 2 years ago
Thats what the Infiniti G37x is for, and it will out perform the TL, and SHO
nissanaltimaka24de 2 years ago
The G37 is so much smaller than the Ford or Acura it's not even worth mentioning. It's also less comfortable than them too. Material quality is a step down.
I LOVE the G37, but it's just not a competitor to these cars. It's a true sport sedan. The Acura and Ford are not. Niether is the Maxima.
TheNewMrCool 2 years ago
actually the g37 is bigger than both

Ford Taurus SHO sodomizes the Maxima.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago 4
And the resale, and reliability of the Taurus will be terrible. We make good trucks, which is great if everyone was named "Jed", and dated a woman with zippers on the back of her jeans. Japan makes much better cars than we do, but we will improve with new leadership in that industry.
Marques0008 2 years ago
You can't comment on the resale or reliability of a vehicle which is in its first model year.
Ford Taurus SHO rapes the Maxima up the bum bum.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
lol so what... that 3.5 that ford makes is a pile of rubbish! what looks good on paper from ford ususaly ends up in the bin with the rest of the trash! what goods a fast car if it's always broken!! give your head a shake! obvioulsy you know very little about quality and just read numbers
mpilla007 2 years ago
When you say fords duratec 35 is a "pile of rubbish" what facts do you have to support this claim. I don't buy into that bullshit for a second. The new Taurus SHO RAPES the Maxima up the BUM so bad that Nissan engineers should feel it.
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
And the Infiniti G37 raped the twin turbo SHO, Sho's how much a hunk of shit the over priced SHO is lol typical American car.
nissanaltimaka24de 2 years ago
Care to cite the source for this BS. Typical American car? Talk to me when you step up into something a little nicer than a fuckin Altima. ROFLCOPER
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
The G37 did fuck the twin turbo SHO up the ass. And American cars now days really are crap that's why their bankrupt, now you want to see when America made real cars look at my vids of the Camaro and Silverado with the ol'e 350 in them, back when America made good cars. Now day's the Impala's, Malibu's all have dirt slow V6's in them and drive like shit my, 97 Altima with nearly 300k outran a V6 Mustang and a 3.5 Dodge Charger. FYI my 07 Altima IS the highest quality midsized car in its class
jesuparearacing 2 years ago 2
A) No you didn't.
B) No it's not.
Since when did they allow cuntbags like you out of the ward early?
th3ha1og0d 2 years ago
Yes i did, but i understand that it's hard for someone like you who drives one to admit to it. Dont worry i'll have videos up soon of the G37 and Altima doin the American cars nasty, hell just last night the G37 smoked a 2010 Mustang GT
jesuparearacing 2 years ago
lol the new sho is not twin turbo its ecoboost witch means biturbo like in audi! thats not twin turbo! learn ur cars dumbass!
shoproduction 2 years ago
Twin turbo mean TWO turbo's you dumbass, and the new SHO has TWO turbo's, yea it's Ecoboost, thats just Ford's engine name. So i thin YOU need to learn your cars
jesuparearacing 2 years ago
How the hell does "twin turbo" and "biturbo" mean anything different? They're both 2 TURBOS! Learn your English language....
yellowmusicfreak 1 year ago
the Bi-Turbo is an inline twin turbo running boost through all the RPMs where a twin turbo is two seperate pipes and runs boost more like a single where you have to build RPMs to get the boost.

lol man my 05 gt stang smoked so many G37 coupe and sedan lots buddy.
05gt5 2 years ago
Well please post some videos to state your proof, cause your Ford's are JUNK!, i would like to see your Shitstang against my boi's Chevy truck on my page you will get your feelings hurt BADLY! Yea i seen 6 VS 8 on Speed, and of course the turbo MKS had the advantage at the elevation they was racing at which was well above sea level, and everyone know's NA cars dont perform like a turbo car would at higher elevations, so imagine if they raced at sea level, the Lincoln would have probally lost
jesuparearacing 2 years ago
Well, my big, heavy, crappy, American, SRT8 will eat, digest, and shit out of its exhaust, any G37 you can put up against it (there just not really fast) I owned a 2004 G35 coupe. Nice car, good bang for your overall buck, but S L O W!!! Same with the 350Z and 370Z just slow cars when going up against real competition. Don't talk about the American V6's you can beat, you can always have a V8!
MrSinister99 1 year ago
American cars suck. That's why their factories went bankrupt. That's why they can't compete in Formula One. That's why they can't compete at the Indy 500 either. Not a single American engine at Indy - all HONDA - because your big, heavy, crappy SRT8 and their ilk would BLOW UP and fall apart.

This is definitely not a family car.
peacemaker0606 2 years ago
Have an 09 Maxima SV and it does 0 - 60 in the 5.6s and hits the quarter @ 14.1 ~ 14.2 .. so who ever is driving this car and posting the 6.1 14.5 #'s is being a little conservative :) It's the fastest in D mode, 1200 RPM off the line.. it'll go above 6000 rpm and just stay there without losing time from shifting or going up and down the powerband... great car! Love the exhaust!
twinretina 2 years ago
are you NightShifter on the maxima website?

Can't wait!!

indeed, indeed. next year nissan should make a manual transmission maxima. not having one just proves to the world that it isn't a real sportscar
drummerblade 2 years ago
nissan reported that manual transmission maxima's accounted for 2% of maxima sales in the past. from a business standpoint, it was the right move.

The guy in this video said: "it sounds a lot like the same engine in the 350Z and the G35"
Probably because they ALL use the same engine (VQ35.) Why would it sound any different?
Having a different header and exhaust wouldn't make the engine sound that distinctly different.
ComfortablyxNumb59 3 years ago
Actually the motor in the g35 and 350z are different.
ct0386 3 years ago
Accually the 03-06 VQ35DE was used in the G35 and the 350Z until 2007 where they started using the VQ35HR. Now both the G and Z are equipped with the VQ37HR. While the Maxima still uses the VQ35DE.
