Great vid, sorry to hear about your loss... I was a Firefighter too, it still runs in me. I was perm injured on the job in LE, & it still hurts when the pager goes off but I can't go on it... Been watching you for years & inspired me to begin preping & doing videos of my journey. Would love to chat sometime on Echolink about how the disabled can prep on limmited retirement? Thanks for the vids keep it up 73, Secret survive
@SECRETSURVIVE - thank you for the kind words and support. Also, many thanks for your service to your community in L.E. and the fire service. We can definitely chat on ECHOLINK. Be safe!
@MrReddok Thank you for the advice. My plan was to at least get my EMT 1 certificate no matter what my career choice was. I might have trouble finding a college, but i'm willing to try. I'm physically small, and never played sports, but i'm healthy and in decent enough shape. thank you again.
Do sweat the choir thing, although inadvertently start a wildfire while talking about wildfires would be a niffty addition to the Blooper real......:0 How does a one man hotshot team work.... :D. No problem, I hope things have started to get better, especially your medical kit business, yes it's hard work but your succeeding where many others are barely holding on.
Hey Doc, thanks for all your vids. I feel like you and your family are personal friends of mine. I have always enjoyed your experiences and thanks for sharing them. I am sorry to here about your difficult experience this summer and pray for continued strength and comfort for you.
Just superb, there is something therapeutic about chores like that. Thanks for the kind words my friend, colder temps are coming, and the fireplace at Sister Coffee is calling ;)
Ah fall chores, I know you're always battling the pine needles out there : ) I can't remember who was tagged last in our recent game of phone tag but we need to get in touch soon.
Always great to get a channel update from you buddy. Yours was one of the first channels I subscribed to & I agree it's been an blessing to make friends with some really great individuals on here.
@CampfireTalk - likewise sir . . . I value our friendship forged from initial YT contact but grounded in similar interests and values. We have had some great phone conversations. As you know I am always amazed at you uncanny sense of when to call! I think I am on deck with the phone tag and will give you a shout when I get a good cell connection . . .one of the pluses / minuses of my current location ;-)
Doc, thanks for the update, I am sorry for your loss this summer. I appreciate you sharing with friends what's going on, and the positive presence you have on here, including inspiring younger folks as they consider their career paths. Deep respect, my friend, deep respect.
@punkboy198 - I have been out of the fire service for many years. I am sure there are a bunch of guys here that will weigh in with advice. I will say, much like everything in life, hard work and perseverance will go far. You will also be ahead by gaining valuable skills such as paramedic training. I wish you good luck. You will never regret a career in the fire service.
Go and talk to your local Fire Dept. They can tell you how and where to apply. Depending on where you live there may be a Volunteer Fire Dept in which you can gain valuable training if you dont have a paid Fire Dept in your location.
@charper3006 - Thank you sir! Well said and great advice. Volunteer experience is beneficial from many perspectives. I greatly appreciate your advice and support for this young man interested in the fire service.
@punkboy198 Punk, career FF/EMTP here, Just a few words on your question directed @ doc. #1 Volunteer, experience is everything. #2 GO TO COLLEGE my brother, look for a fire science program. OK univ, Univ of Cincinnati, and East KY Univ. have four year programs. check in your area. #3 doc, is right, get your emt, and paramedic training. firefighting is the glory, but ems is what we do, 80/20!! EKU has both a medic and ff program. #4 look @ military, USAF has big FF prog. Alot of Airmen are FF
@MrReddok - Thank you sir! This is the great thing about this community. Supportive guys stepping up to the plate. I appreciate your guidance for this young man. Well said and great advice . . . especially GO TO COLLEGE. Many thanks and keep the faith!
Another GREAT video Doctor. When I lived on my (hobby) ranch in the Canby/Molalla area, I used ANY excuse to get out and burn – I’m sure it’s the smell from my happy memories – and a really good time to be within my own mind for awhile. “Collecting my thoughts” one of my old aunties would say. Thank you for your commitment and (VERY) hard work.
