  • The problem with patents is that it's stupidly worthless and is just a political and money fight. Software, codes, and even hardware designs can be re-imagined and coded from the ground up, or re-organized and built different (physical stuff) that can preform similar functions but is just different enough to get away with it and that stuff happens all the time.

Though the patents on tech like 'Multi-touch', disc drives, zoom features is fucking petty at it's best.

  • Owning a patent will stop others from stealing all your stuff and selling it unfairly. I understand why apple is pissed. They probably invested a lot into making that technology, so if someone else stole it for free, I could understand why they would be pissed.

Lets say I took safari's code, changed the name and icon, and gave it away, I would understand why apple would sue me.

  • Anything that stops/slows the flow of information and/or the spread of knowledge should be banned.

  • @DonMega187 im british but when i googled it i couldent understand it

  • patents are preventing many technologies being implemented. just because u patented it it belongs to u. no matter if some1 has already done it b4 and thought it b4 u. or if some1 thinks of the same thing later himself. they should put heavier restrictions what all can be patented and what not, like that zoom thing they talk about in the end it's somethin that shouldn't be able to patent because it's such a small thing, which could easily be thought up by any1 else too

  • what do you think about parents its a good questino :D

  • even my acer aspire laptop has the pinch zoom feature on touchpad XD

  • i need to do a patent, im in england. any help or websites

  • @alewisgb hey just google: united states patent and trademark office

there's some other sites too, but google to the rescue

  • fuck the hurtlocker

  • 3:55 no no no its a idea..a philosophy and that is the REAL debate.

  • as Dave Mathews said: so much to say so much to say ssooooo much to say.

  • Long live open source!!!!

  • @blackknight509 Nah pirate is better.

  • patents paralyze technological advancement peroid

  • What do I think about Patents? I don't!

  • There is TOO many pattens/copyrights, so much that you can't even come out with your own thing without partially using someone else's ideas 98% of the time

  • i for got ti tell you it has 8 megapixel camera n it dose 480 video cam n andrioid has over 39,000 apps

  • htc incredible on verizon its has a hd screen it has it has pinch to zoom 7 home screens 1 ghz procesoor 8gb of memor so its just has good or better then iphone

  • Microsoft Steals from Apple and Apple Steals from Microsoft

  • @kbr247

    Both steal from linux

  • @vinetari WIN statement.

  • Apple?? Patents?? How many times they steals Tech that has been patented by other company? Are they (Apple) gonna patent all their stolen shit?

  • @cybertourniquet Apple's had it patented before the other companies.

  • @AppleHack23 So Nokia suing Apple based from nothing then....

  • @AppleHack23 and Remember, Apple is not the first smartphone company. Well... maybe they are in America. But not in Europe, Asia, or other country

  • >.> 3 mins in the video... im like when is the parent conversation going to come up... then 1 was like... -.- oh... lol

    i think patents are stupid

they shouldnt be allowed for something like tech

for something like songs should be allowed but tech... no... maybe a temp patent but not something like this because it only slows the progress of technology

  • HAha I totally thought this said parents ;D

  • @TheKevinisbangin hahaha same here man!!!

  • @TheKevinisbangin me too

  • waht does this have to do with parents??

  • @Octavio681 Patents - not Parents.

  • @Octavio681

    P A T E N T S

  • The palm pre is the exception to everything in this video, i'm not saying that webOS is the perfect software, and the phone is the perfect hardware. That is false. However, i love my palm pre and now that HP has a hold of palm, i think some very interesting things are headed our way

  • Patents... its a love and hate thing. I think patents stifle progression, for instance multi-touch is a necessary advancement for touch screen devices and there really isn't much in the way to do things differently. I mean you can hack in multi touch in the current touch screen tech.

  • Patents are fucking humanity's progress...

  • @whiteperson1: That's the thing. I want people to be able to make an invention if they want to. That is why I would publish it rather than patent it. It's a monopoly, and it is an unjust monopoly. It's unfair that it is based on a race.

  • @LtDonny The people that own the patent can sell a company rights to produce it for a money kickback, its only fair, you wouldn't want to make something amazing and have to eat ramen noodles because someone stole your idea. i agree though some patent things are annoying, there should be one common rate to be able to use any patent you want. like __ amount of cents for every 1 dollar made. This would keep price down due to competition. This also incourages companies to make better products

  • @AjblueDesign: However, if there is a patent that blocks progress, it is bad. From this basis, since everything is built on everything, patents, as a whole, are bad.

  • patent on medications is bad because poor countries cant buy the right to produce them

  • if you invent something new then you should patent it! thats the smartest thigh to do if you dont want any one to steal your innovation whitout your permission

  • Patents Rock!!!

  • you should put last nights debate about your ads on that was hilarious

  • Wow Chris, you do have annoying fans. WTF kinda question is this?! Of course patents are important.

Nerds are funny. They're smart with math and complex architecture but utterly RETARDED in the common sense department.

  • lol first I read parents xD

  • @osjcag I think nearly 80% of the people that watched this video did :L

  • @urgum3 LMAO me too!

  • @osjcag same here haha

  • @osjcag LOL I did too!

  • @osjcag Lol I read planets.

  • You know patents are needed so no one wont try to run with your idea but I'm loving the competition thats going on with the companies its exciting . The Apple conference had great features for the 4.0 software and the Google I/O had great features for Froyo 2.2 . this year is going to be mobile WAR!!!!

  • Patents prevent competition, so they're bullshit.

  • this is very similar to what microsoft did like 20 years ago. its funny how apple are changing. they are becoming the thing that they hated

  • @JetsuSeal Do you play MTA:SA?

  • @JacknifeCreations Used to, but i been thinking to start back, i don't know if i want to, because 95% of my GTA: SA is modded.. so i think i would get kicked because of my awesome mods... I prefer my mods than to play online.. i dont know yet, go to my channel and watch my GTA SA mods if you want, and you'll see what i mean.

  • @JetsuSeal yea... i also have most of my GTASA modded also, and MTA works just fine...i'm an Admin of one of the top servers in MTA, and we only kick for hacks. you could also create a seperate installation to use for MTA, so that way you dont have to worry. MTA has changed a LOT since last time you played and is MUCH better. so if you ever want to get back into it, make sure you DL Version 1.0.2 NOT 1.0.3 (google it) and if you want to come into our server, its Called "West Coast Gaming"

  • Imo, patents should have an expiration date =]

  • @kardentyrell they have... 20years

  • @egonelbre way too long imo.

  • @kardentyrell they sorta do, they end when either the company has stoped using the patant for 5 years or the company stops caring about it

  • @karrotsrkool 5 years is huge for our current technological prowess though.

  • @kardentyrell well thats how it works and its often about 1/2 a year because thats when companys stop caring

  • @kardentyrell THEY DO

  • amazingly good for international purposes.... tho really annoying......ppl accuse of stealing their ideas casue they r alike

  • What OS is on that laptop of his?

  • @IIUKBlitzII Mac OS X

  • @Paddy260991 Are all the computers MAC's?

  • @IIUKBlitzII All the ones you can see are, yes.

To the left of the camera he has a PC and next to the camera he has a Mac Mini running the live stream :P

  • i think the nexus phones have the two finger zoom.

  • @jarvideoproductions Yes you can do multitouch operations with Android phones, thanks to the HTC Sense layer. Android phone can do everything an iphone can. Also the version 2.2 of Android (also called Froyo) makes the things run much more faster than the most recent iPhone OS does. I think it's gonna be Apple Vs Android. Microsoft still has to prove things.

The only advantage Apple has against Google is the fact that they control their hardware.

  • I'm no smart phone bitch, but can't Android do everything the iPhone can? I would get an Android phone if I could skip out on the data plan and just use my wifi.

I mean, wtf? I'm not going to be driving around browsing the net. That's fuckin' stupid and I'm not the type to be glued to my phone in public.

  • it can be used to sue people

  • Did you say a patent is like a weapon in a pissing contest?

  • the new micrsoft phone you are thinking about is the Nexus two

  • i never realised how HUGE those screens are. Hes gonna have huge eye problems.

    just sayin'

  • @Basketalbi nope, he'll probably have less eye problems. Not moving your eyes and not blinking cause eye problems. Because he has more screens he has to look around more.

  • Frankie Bones You are famous :)

  • if the jailbrake was not free i would happily pay up to $100 for it but i would never ever ever ever buy an app from app store or any other store F... apple and all electronic companies open source and Linux way to go... BTW I donated many times to people who made apps that were free. VIVA LA FREEDOM

  • i liked the engadget reffrence (podcast 185 i think) that 'patents help innovation'...i.e. they force companies to innovate to produce a solution that 'works a different way' but produces the same out come. its like math, you can get to the same result using a variety of different methods/equations :P

    thats all folks.

  • I would rather have closed source, fewer problems, with open development than open source more problems, need for more hardware.

  • #cake

  • what ever happened to nokia sueing apple?

  • Parents are to protetive when it comes the son or daughter finding a partner,

  • IP laws were meant to protect the little guy like me slaving away over a proof of concept that google or MS could take to market in a few months...look at the history of royal patronage for info on why IP laws were put in the Constitution...lifetime copyright for an indefinite lifetime corp is bad IMHO...

  • :) nice video chris! keep it up!

  • should be respected like "THE BAN HAMMER" it's there can be thrown down at any time so you better watch yourself and no questions asked... but.... patents shouldn't be so broad as to include something that says that anything with a slide to unlock screen ... like what apple was given....

  • BIG BOOTY BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!
