  • Vibrato on a clarinet for beginners

  • Wow your stupid. There is no b#. One step up from a Bb is a C. Bb to B is a half step, and B to C is a half step. Half plus half is one step you stupid people. He did that right ive been playing for 9 years taken music theory and everything. This is correct and very helpful to people trying to improv. I just don't recomend

  • @superdakota2012 Don't be so quick to call people stupid. Theoretically B# is a B# and a C is C. If you have been taking any music theory for so long then you should know this. B# and C are ENHARMONIC, these two notes have different functions.. Knowing music theory you should know the circle of fifths meaning you're familiar with all major and minor scales. C# Major scale has sharps in F#-C#-G#-D#-A#-E#-B#. Maybe you should take more lessons in theory?

  • @superdakota2012 lol u just fucked up. there is no b#? :P attend more classes bro.

  • yeahhh

  • that was great to hear you can play so many instruments. i'm 22 years old, i've played guitar for about 10 years and i can play drums well enough but i want to start learning more instruments. i've just started to learn piano and flute. later i really want to learn saxes and trumpet but i thought i was getting into too much would you advise otherwise?

  • @PandasNoMore I ran in to the same problem. Try the Eb clarinet. It reads alto sax music and is about one octave higher than the alto sax. Trust me it takes like one hour tops to et used to and to transfer the scales to the key of Eb. Never give up Bb clarinet though.

  • you sound like your reed is too soft and your vibrato sounds unnatural.. other than that pretty good

  • :O I've been playing the clarniet for three years and I've constantly tried to join jazz band but my instructor told me that clarinets weren't fit for jazz band. You sir have proved him wrong, thank you.

  • @PandasNoMore ....

There are some really good jazz clarinet players on YouTube that play

a million times better than I do. I'll send you a link.

  • @johnny102marvin Send me a link to!

  • @PandasNoMore I know right! Exact same crap at my school!

  • Cheers man, good idea here with using the midi tracks for improv, I'd not thought of that!

  • awesome playing, great teacher

  • Thanks for taking the time to share this with us!

  • ayye low key you cold!

  • @mikenz06 That's right. I can play just about any instrument at an average level. So I apologize to you for being just an average player of all instruments.

  • @johnny102marvin u dont need to appologize because not everyone can do that

  • @johnny102marvin dont worry u dont have to ur great :)

  • @johnny102marvin Some people have too much time on their hands. Thanks for sharing sir.

  • @mikenz06 why dont you make some uploads and allow yourself to be judged?

  • @lsdvine Don't need too mate there is enough stuff on here to keep people occupied forever. And why would I put all my hard earned experience out there for free? what do you do for a living? I have earned my way as a pro musician all my life so you want a lesson that's gonna cost you. Nothing personal just business. and maybe I was a bit harsh on Johnny but if you are going to put stuff out there make sure you have the ability.

  • @PimpBrovasTV What are you some kind of psychotherapist?

  • @mikenz06 cool do you have any tips though to improve on high notes im having trouble please

  • @lsdvine

Sorry for the thumbs down, I meant to thumbs up.

  • There is a B#. But when you see B# you have to play a C. but in theory sure there is a B#. When you have a note that you play the same, but scribe different, we call that just like IDrAsianl said; enharmonic.

  • nice playing!

  • As far as I know, there is no B#. Try looking it up on your fingering charts. You won't find it. You can also learn your sharps and flats by looking at the black keys on the piano. If you do read B#, play C because it is equivalent to what B# should be. The same goes with E#-- it is really F, and Fb is an E.

  • He is talking about Bb concert pitch which would be the C major scale on the clarinet. Plus half of you are talking about notes rather than concert pitch. And there is a B#, its called enharmonics.

  • Bb to C is a whole step. there is no B#. (B# = c

  • His transitions from the upper register to the chalumeau are so smooth you don't even recognize that he's transitioning. Nice improvisation too.

  • Why so many said "better not" vibrato on clarinet...

  • I read somewhere that its better for us not to do so because it involves our changing our embouchure which we as clarinetists should not do. I really do not know if this is correct but that's what I remember reading.

  • @cookieman5 "changing your embouchure" - this is only a concern if you're a new player and you also want to play classical music, or win prizes at solo/ensemble contest or audition for honor band. You need to have a very solid concept of what a good classical embouchure is (and how to produce a good tone) before you play around with bending notes and so forth.

But if all you want to do is play jazz (or klezmer, etc) then just go for it.

  • a step up from Bb is Db ... the distance between Bb and C is a half step ...

  • no its not.....Bb to C is a whole step, its 2 half steps :p

  • no its not......the distance between Bb to C is 1/2 step....

Bb = C#, therefore Bb is a half step from Bb

  • @tutorial1997 Bb doesn't equal C# XD Bb would equal A#, and Bb is not a half step from Bb :p

  • @Heathaholic

oh my bad...i was thinkin of the G but ur still wrong.

    B to C = whole step

    A to C= 2 steps

Bb goes down half a notch so its 1 1/2 step

  • @tutorial1997 wth are you talking about? B to C is a half step, youd have to take 2 half steps to reach C if it was a whole step, but you only take one. A to C is 1 and a half steps it would be A##, you would have to pass Bb (counts as half) then to B (counts as a whole step) then to C (counts as a 1 1/2 steps).

  • @tutorial1997 your still fuckin wrong, B# doesn't equal Cb it equals C natural. wow you really need some theory lessons....

  • @tutorial1997 I know this was forever ago.. but still. It cracks me up to see someone SO sure about this incorrect information. When you tell someone to think twice next time, it's better that YOU actually know what you're talking about, which you obviously don't.

  • that is beautiful

  • Thanks for your lesson~

  • thank you very much. i'm trying to finally learn to improv properly and so videos like this really help. thank you.

  • It's nice

  • amazing! Do you have any tips for bass clarinet vibrato and improvisation?

  • Blues scale, that's a fun one. Are you asking how to do vibrato???

  • Very nice job of combining the two instruments.

  • What instrument can this man not play? So talented. thanks for sharing!!!!
