I saw Blackfoot in SF Ca. opening for Bob Seeger way back in the day...Hadn't ever heard of them but was flat out BLOWN AWAY by the rawness of the Skynyrd like sound especially live...I went right out & bought the Strikes album & to this day love hearin' them on the radio or Sirius/XM...wasn't till years later I discovered Ricky Medlock was an early Skynyrd member.
No wonder Train-Train & Highway Song sound so much like Freebird.
flat out talented. they flat out rocked, wish i was there, thats all i can say!!!!!!!!! evene without ricky they can still instrumentally play some sweet rock and roll!
Rickey still owns the name and rights to Blackfoot and is leasing it out for the time being. Rumor has it he producing something hot we will see in 2012.
I thought Ricky owned the rights to what has been previously recorded but I thought the present guys get 100% of all money they get when they tour. Yes they cannot record without Rick permission using the Blackfoot name but if they tour, Charlie and the guys take it all.
@Jode111 That is a Dean Soltero, man. I own one & they are my favorite kind of axe. Well-built & the necks play like butter. The one he is playing here is a Leslie West signature series Soltero.
This is a good band and who in their right mind would'nt leave to play with Skynard come on man it was a deal he couldn't and shouldn't turn down. Would you want to ride around in a wore out bus or a brand new one and play in maybe the most legendary band in southernrock history, what would you do?
I don't think Barth vocals are bad. He is different in his approach that Medlocke. Who is to say at this point in his career that Medlocke could be a better front man vocally that Barth.
I miss Thunderfoot and I loved the original band.....I am so glad I was there at the beginning and I saw them so many times. Why Ricky?, why did you dump the guys when you did? That pop stuff sucked and you never did really hit without these guys! Rock on Charlie and Greg! Damn I miss Jackson!............................
uhm response to the uploader rickey medlocke was a original member of skynyrd and he quit to join blackfoot, soooooo does that tell you anything? Blackfoots my all time favorite band and i love medlocke, his voice, and his guitar style and Barth is certainly no Rickey Medlocke
And I would like to add that it's great for Charlie and Greg to get to play this stuff they were such a vital part of Blackfoot as well.... great that they get the respect they deserve....
Barth wasn't a member of the classic Foot lineup...granted tho...he has a long history in southern rock...mainly with AXE. As i recall he was coming into the bad towards the end of it's run...ironically I think to replace a departing Hargrett after the Vertical Smile lp??? maybe! I love that Blackfoot it playing...but it's tough because Medlocke...IS Blackfoot, and without Spires this is a tough sell. I like they the music of the awesome Foot catalogue is at least being played out there..!
(continued) Queensryche, Ratt and others. All the bands that opened shows on that tour became major stars. Anthrax had Neil Turbin on lead vocals that night, and if you read the liner notes for "Fistful of Metal", they thank Springfield MA. They had just finished recording that album shortly before that night. The crowd was going "Who are these guys?", but when they started playing, the crowd went nuts over them. All three bands kicked ass on that show.
(continued from previous post) That tour with Krokus was weird because it was apparently supposed to be those two bands with Saxon. I saw the first show on that '83 tour (Springfield MA) and spoke to the sound guy after the opening act's set. He said Saxon had trouble getting their visas in order and would be doing their own tour instead. The tour went on with different bands in different parts of the country. The first one was Anthrax (their first ever real tour0, then Twisted Sister,
Not a bad version of this song. I agree that it loses something without the man who wrote the song singing lead on it. Didn't know until recently Dr. Jackson passed away. Great drummer, very underrated and underappreciated. The last time I saw Blackfoot was in '94 when Ricky was the only original member in the band and they sounded like a "hair metal" band live. Many memories of seeing Blackfoot open for Ted Nugent, and that weird arena tour with Krokus in '83.
They certainly need a vocalist Barth has no power and is more out of tune than in it.A couple of female back up singers would help but its obvious from the venue that they aint got the money for big gigs anymore. What a cryin shame.Cos they're excellent musicians.
Ricky was great with Blackfoot, but don't get on his shit for headin too Skynyrd!! If you didn't know it he was actually an origional member of Skynyrd! Vanzant's and Medlockes families go way back!!
I've always loved Greg T Walker's outfit whenever he plays. In a way, when the lineup was just Charlie, Rickey, Greg, and Jakson, they were the only true American Rock Band, being native American.
always liked liked blackfoot, good old rock and roll. real playing, not the compure generated crap you hear the younger generation is listening to. from a devoted fan," keep on rockin guys".
I saw Blackfoot live in 1982 in Dayton,OH. at Hare Arena on tour with Def Leppard in their early days. They were awsome live. But I still prefure Medlocke's voice and his axe. He and Charlie Hargrett together on Highway Song live was really something to see. But this is a good version.
I saw them 5.6.2009 at Tavastia club in Helsinki, Finland. Some of us had been waiting for this since the release of Marauder ´81. Good stuff . Thank guys for coming over...

Barth looks like my great grandpa and sounds like him too trying to sing. This is a joke on the vocals without Medlocke. The guitars are good but the vocals stink
@arcme262 first of all Medlocke did not abandon the band, in the mid 80s the band broke up Medlocke however carried on as blackfoot with a new line up after years of Medlocke touring as Blackfoot he was asked to join Skynyrd in 94 he joined them and continued Blackfoot thru 97 after which he put is energy to just Skynyrd in 04 the original Blackfoot wanted to get together Medlocke being obligated to Skynyrd chose to stay there the other 3 original members of blackfoot carried on with Barth
Sometimes a musician has to make business decisions. I don't think he was trying to "abandon" the band. My buddy used to play bass for Blackfoot way back and he loved working with Ricky.
At least Medlocke walked away from the guys who were a big part of his success when he was younger. I wonder though I do not know is when Medlocke and Jaks sister divorced if that was the start of the end.
I would not say he cars less about Blackfoot but I would think he feels that when the original band split up that was the end of Blackfoot though he toured under the Blackfoot name until the mid 1990s. I just wish whatever cause Greg T and Medlocke to have this feud would end.
Oh, come on... He sounds great! I won't say Rickey had/has the best voice in history, but they both sound raw and powerful. BB is a great choice for Blackfoot, and I hope the keep it going for years to come... Remember this is not professionally recorded either :)
But that said; I wouldn't mind Rickey to do a comeback :)
I saw Blackfoot dozens of times in bars when they were coming up and Medlocke was a kicking singer. Then with 1 or 2 albums out he lost his voice and was diagnosed to be finished singing. Blackfoot added a singer from off Broadway. Ricki couldn't take it and resumed but never quite the same. If you heard him sing with Skynard you'd know he couldn't do nearly as well as Barth. In fact I haven't a LIVE version of Rickey singing this one better...not even 15 years back.
I don't think it was like your saying. Sometimes you have to make business/financial type decisions when in a band. He did what he thought was best. I have a friend that played bass with Blackfoot and he said Ricky was a class act all the way.
This may not be Blackfoot with Medlocke but the music sounds the same. I do agree Barth is not the vocals of Medlocke but it was Medlockes choice to run and leave the guys for the money in Skynyrd. Frankly, I think Barth does a terrific job and I enjoy him as the front man. You just know Shorty is in heaven angry as ever at Medlocke for walking away from his roots. Give Barth some credit. He does a terrific job.
