I remember when I saw my first poster of Duran Duran....I was in the 6th grade!! From that moment on I was hooked. I think I went and bought every issue of BOP I could find just for the posters and articles of them. Boy did I drive my folks crazy!! I'm almost 40 now and it amazes me how my heart still skips a beat when I see one of their videos or hear one of their songs....songs that I STILL know by heart. When I think of my teenage years, I will always think of Duran Duran...LOVE YOU GUYS!!
@lacykat05 It's funny that you mention BOP, because, I received these magazines very delayed in Chile and they were my favourite, because, I had a Duranie frenzy for information. That magazine gives me the best memories of my puberty. I remember I was 11 when I heard of them.
Lovin this ones, if your a DD fan Check out the new (QUESTION ft DURAN DURAN) Video -Take It Back, let me know what you think, i am a true fan of Legendary Duran Duran and hope i have done them and the fans proud.
There's nothing wrong with Simon's dancing. If you judge it, you obviously never experienced the wonderful spirit of the 80s. (Not that I did, I was born in 1990 but I'm open minded). What would you rather him be doing? Beyonce moves? :/
@fuckamericanidiot Yeah but his voice works for the band. At times it's quite a strong voice. Bob Dylan can't sing for shite but it works, like. His dancing isn't all that bad he just had low confidence which sometimes showed on stage in the early days. His moves are actually great on the 'Arena' or 'Sing Blue Silver' dvds.
you think that's flat? try the 'world spins so fast i might fly off' bit of the STUDIO 'sound of thunder'. 'anyone out there' is a great 80's song. aside from the singles, there was a fair bit on this album that was closer to early japan than the new romantic scene. duran's best stuff by far imo (partly because a lot of their other stuff was coked shite).
@jimmygoggins sure, simon may not have the strongest voice but it's a good voice and it works and no-one else could fit in his place. he's a great entertainer, live. listen to their early demos with other singers, it just doesn't work.
Oh. I'm so sorry that Andy's gone for good. He's such a great musician and he developed an awesome rock sound for Duran Duran. Didn't notice he provided chorus for this great song also. Andy please come back!!! We miss you!!!
@ooviedoc Andy Taylor will ALWAYS be a part of Duran Duran. He was one of the original/ founding members. Do you remember the song he did, 'Take It Esay', from '85 or '86, when he left DD in a hurry over some contractual issue? Do you remember that song? Duran Duran's history rivals that of an American soap opera... Don't worry, Andy will still be around. I don't remember his exact dob but I know that he is an Aquarian (Feb. 7, maybe), so he will be around and doing things, don't worry ;)
@8g9ftso Well, some months ago I was still sad Andy's gone. However now I'm convinced Andy is done about DD and the guys are done about Andy, so yes he'll always be part of the history of DD but I'm happy the way they've managed to make such an amazing album like All You Need Is Now without Andy or Warren...looks like the band doesn't need Andy anymore and that's somehow great for everybody if they don't want to live always in the past.
I swither between this album and Rio and never come to a definite conclusion as to which is best. This entire album is postively electic and wonderful. Rio is too. Duran, like all bands I know of, hit their creative peak early on...with exception of the odd track (im thinking Finest Hour). This album was played in my house for 10 years. Friends of MIne followed by Nightboat are best...11/10 for Duran Duran
They're hotter than anybody else!!The song is amazing and Simon is really wonderful wearing those trousers, those boots and all the rest... BTW Simon is hot even wearing nothing!!!OMG...Duran the bests, 4ever!!!
I was a huge fan back in the day and this recording surpasses by far anything on the Arena album. They should've taken whoever did the sound for this on the big tour in 1984.
In 80s everybody danced like Simon! It was a style of star dancings. Simon is getero! And He is handsome too) I like the way he dances. When I look how dance new pop-artists I just want to get sleep! It is boring. But Simon 100% talent, he can dance too))))
John's bass lines always are tops - and agreed on the lyrics. All and all, Duran Duran,(the early days before they had the split), were an unbelievably talented and amazing band. Never did get enough credit for that.
this is my favorite from the first album. it used to make me cry. it's one of the few duran duran lyrics that i can easily understand all the way through, and i always thought it was so sad, just a story of pure loneliness.
no one ever recognizes them for their lyrics, but i have never listened to anything that compares to duran duran lyrically.
esto si es calidad, muchos grupos deberían aprender a tocar como ellos. sobre todo por el pop gringo fome que se hace por estos días, en que apenas uno sabe si cantan o no.
actually planet earth was thier first song....hungry like the wolf didnt hit america until 82......then they re-released this album......they are the greatest.....no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!
actually, yes... tho i can't say for sure if it was '82 or '81! The WEIRD thing is that I've read online that that show was cancelled - to which I can honestly say BS! Sure nuff, I liked to drink LOTSA back then, but can hardly imagine imagining an entire show. Were you also at that show, bud?
I never knew Duran Duran were on the OGWT..It would be like Leona/Will Young etc.. being on Jools Holland these days! There should be another show like OGWT these days so these xfactor guys dont hog the limelight!
I am very serious about finding this on compact disc. Is this specific PERFORMANCE available on CD or DVD that anyone is aware of?! Once again, I am desperate to find said *performance* of this song. Thank you much!
I remember watching this performance on TV when I was 13. In those days I would often plug my radio cassette recorder into a socket at the back of the telly and record the audio on shows like the OGWT and The Tube. I had this "anyone out there" on tape for a while but probably ended up recording over it. Seeing this again has brought all the great memories flooding back! Fantastic song, it has that slightly unpolished feel that gives it a special edge. Thanks so much for posting the video.
