  • Been into this band since the beginning.

    >mfw a n00b bought their albums (insert tim duncan laughing)

  • All I have to say is if music doesn't change, it dies. The Against me! of Crime as Forgiven is the same Against Me! of New Wave. As music ages, it has to grow up. It's why Tom doesn't play Burn at concerts anymore. It's fine if you don't like their new stuff. I just think it's ridiculous to say that their new stuff sucks. Maybe it isn't Tom getting old. Maybe it isn't fame. Maybe it's not them 'selling out'. Maybe it's you. Grow up.

  • Okay you people have to realize. Music taste and likes are opinionated. Although I like they're old stuff a lot more, I don't go around telling people they're wrong for liking they're new stuff, cause in my opinion it sucks. So fuck you people who think you're a better fan or something because you only like their old stuff.

  • saw them four dates in a row. with foo fighters. had backstage passes (knew a guy). then when the tour ended we went up to quebec city (from ct) to see them one more time. they remembered us and stuff, tom and the bass player said our demo was decent too. awesome guys in person. we had beers together! in a diffrent country haha. i'd be pissed if they played this tho and so many people were singing that i couldn't even hear tom sing >:|. anyway, AM are awesome musicians and people, fasho

  • Personally I love hearing everyone else sing. It makes you feel like you're not alone.

  • fuck all you guys. i would pay 100 bucks to see AM!.

    fake fans.

  • I don't know what this whining is all about. 15 bucks to see a show isn't all that much. Do you have any idea how much a show like that costs? Usually, the guys that organize these gigs don't make any money off it, usually they have to pay a couple of hundred bucks out of their own pocket so they can pay the band, food, and travel expences. Most of 'em do it for the love of it and just want to see the crowd go wild. This clip is a great example of that! :D

  • not to mention they probably have to go on an entire tour just to afford the equiptment, instruments etc.

  • fuck you all. i'd pay 80 to see against me. stop whining about the fact that they want to make a little bit of money. if you were in a band, would you want to stay the small band that makes no money and no one knows about, or the band the sucessfully gets their point across while making money? jesus.

  • I didn't want to post this... but I feel like I really have to. I'm fifteen, I'm a girl, and I really dig Against Me!. I'm going to one of their shows in a few months. What's wrong with that? I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything. I just want to know how that makes me different from any other fans. No doubt I haven't been listening to them as long as many, but is it my fault I was born when I was? Initially, the lyrics of Reinventing Axl Rose drew me to the band.

  • nothing, really, except that new against me music is a lot worse than older stuff, and has a much more watered down message. so, go to the show, have fun, and check out the songs from Vivada Vis, and the original demo, cuz they're a lot better. if you dont think so, cool, but that's my opinion.

and generally speaking Reinventing Axl Rose is from when they were still great.

  • I agree, they suck now there's no going around it. Don't feel bad because you just started listening to them and you're into their new shitty stuff (you probably have a crappy taste in music to begin with). People who have been listening to them and following them for a while feel a little betrayed, we have every right to. Their new "audience is comprised of 15 year little girls, and it seems to me that now they're the ones who care how many tickets are sold at the door. old stuffs still good.

  • Actually, my AM! fandom worked backwards. I bought their new album, thought it was pretty good, then began hunting down their older albums only to find out that I enjoyed it more and more the further back I dug. But hey, feel free to keep your erroneous opinions about people you've never met.

  • Way to use erroneous in the wrong context, last time i checked an opinion cant be wrong, but whatever, I'm not the one who's upset about people ranking on music that I listen to.

  • well said. old stuff is WAYYY better but maybe they'll snap back into it and write som more folk punk stuff. they live show still kicks ass if its in a small venue. i saw em in a basement type place and it was great. they played all their old stuff. and theer werent any 15 year old girls there. its was all their loyal; fZAns to scream along with em

  • The new songs would have been realesed no matter what label they were on... Its not becouse they signed sire.

  • vv your an idiot.

  • the people who aren't dissapointed in how they are now, know nothing about the old against me! and plan -it-x records. that stuff is amazing and the new am! is uncomparable. but i still like against me!, I'm just so dissapointed.

  • it doesnt even fuckin matter whether or not a band is a "sellout"

    if the music is good

    the music is good

    thats all that matters

    seriously

    give it up

    this is a great band

if u are just worried about focusing on how much money they make and how much bigger they are getting and how much more they are "selling out"

u need to stop being such a fuckin hypocritical dick and find something better to do then rant on about sellouts on youtube

  • You little pissy-fest over here shoes you know NOTHING about Against Me!

The band made it their mission to fuck organized government, fuck everything that was mainstream.

And they carried out that so well that people stood behind them. People had music that they believed in.

Then all of a sudden they went to a major label and played colisseums and Conan O'Brien.

They abandoned all of the people that waved their fist in the air and screamed along to the lyrics they all believed in.

  • *shows

    I don't know why I said shoes.

  • Noone here can honestly say given the opportunity to make a large amount of money while still doing what you want to do that they would decline it. Against Me! might not be the force they used to be, I can say with honesty they haven't sold out to anyone. From the largest stadium to a shithole in Canada, they play hard always.

  • The thing is, I saw them about 2 weeks ago. At a little hole in the wall in the middle of knowhere Canada. Honestly, they had to lose money on that show. Tickets were $14 Canadian. Sure it's a little high priced, but it's not that bad. Regardless, they certainly played, "Loud and hard". They had to not care "How many people were counted at the door". There were maybe 100 people there. And that's counting generously. They aren't sellouts.

  • "We want a band that plays loud and hard every night That doesn't care how many people are counted at the door That would travel one million miles and ask for nothing more than a plate of food and a place to rest"

"Just gimme a scene where the music is free

And the beer is not the life of the party"

Dylan do you understand irony? Maybe it will hit you as you're paying the 30 bucks to see AM play

  • Yeah, and you apparently haven't listened to a word of the lyrics on their album, "Searching for a Former Clarity". Most of it is lamenting about their own success. But, it's not something they have any control over.

  • you're right. i don't listen to awful, boring, music.

  • If a thousand people in one city want to see them, how can they play small venues? And if they play a big venue, how can the venue charge the same amount as a small place when it costs twice as much to power and staff the place? Now they have fans in almost every major city in America. Do they just choose to keep hitting just the major cities? Or do they expand the tour?

  • If so, how can they continue having low cover charges, when it costs so much more money to get to so many locations? You aren't thinking about the big picture. What happens when you get EVERY underground music fan on your side? Suddenly, you're mainstream. It's defined by record and ticket sales, right?

  • hear hear! I'm seeing them in two weeks, and it's only 15 dollars. seriously!

  • My point exactly... I mean, maybe you're used to paying 15 bucks at the door to see a show, but I'm used to paying seven or so. Usually, I see very underground music, in very small venues. It sucks to pay 15 bucks to see a show... I mean, I'll pay it because I'm a huge fan of Against Me!, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

  • Hell yeah. 15 bucks means I usually say fuck it and leave. It's all about the free shows, the "donate what you can" shows and the "alright, I'll let you in 'cause you said please" shows. Sadly, venues are starting to care more about the money than the music.

  • I got in for free muther fuckers. dont be pussies and sneak in. if they are gonna go on a major label to make more money im not gonna give em shit

  • What do you do when you write songs that a million kids want to hear? Do you write shittier songs? Do you quit? How do you NOT be a sellout? Give me a reasonable answer, and then you have room to talk.

  • I have no problems with a band signing to a major label and making a lot of money playing music. It's just a shame that along with signing to sire they apparently decided to make shitty records. Also they like to shit on the label that gave them their start and Tom decided to get arrested for being a violent macho rockstar. awesome.

also is that "stop" song they performed on letterman suppose to be a joke or do people like it?

  • i agree. all there old shit is so much better and tom doesnt sound like a fag singing. theyre still great live though

  • and i'm seeing them in two weeks and it's 15 dollars canadian.

  • how in the fuck can you people call these guys sellouts? if u wanna talk about sellouts go comment some green day videos...

  • Fucking, amen to all of the recent comments. The phrase "sell out" shouldn't even be in the same sentence as Against Me. Success isn't selling out.

  • Grr...why whenever a band gets noticed by the major labels (for being good) do people feel the need to claim they're selling out. A band is only selling out if they change their style of music, physical appearence, etc in order to become more popular (whether they're signed to a major or not). Against Me definately don't fit into that category.

  • I totally agree. They sound like the same Against Me! The only thing that changed is that they made some money. Is that so bad? I mean, if I was given the chance to become comfortable and never worry about bills, I think I would say "yes" right away. What's so wrong with them being on MTV? So what if they want more people to hear their music? What do you expect?

  • this movie is 3 years what does it matter if there famus now this was a tthe orpheam in tampa and in a month there playing at state theater. so there still not big enough to get to jannus or st pete times fourm

  • You said "there" three times when it should be "they're"...

  • I really don't think they have changed that much: they just got famous. Why would you care if that girl down the street now knows them from MTV? What does it matter. It is a good band,so go enjoy them.

  • simply amazing

  • is this song a joke about axl rose? can`t hear what the are singin

  • well maybe for once in life something wasn't about the money, just fucken once. it gave it something more, more meaning. and all of a sudden bam, it's gone. now they're just like any other band. your a fucken asshole dude(jonathantangjerd)your the type of people who just accepts something even though you know it bothers you. well fuck that, they sold out and it let me down.

  • I know how you feel, but don't you think it would be better for yourself personally not to be preoccupied with a band's financial situation. You said that you wished that, "for once in life something wasn't about the money", but yet you are preocupied with a band's finances rather than the still good music that they produce. Let's face it, this isn't an AFI grade sell out we're talking about here, lol. Anyways, old and new Against Me is fuckin tight.

  • yeah, it was. this song meant so much to any kid who listens to underground music. to bad AM pretty much went against everything they said in this song

  • I love the lyric, I love the title, I love the band, the voice, this song is pure truth and real rock and roll

  • everyone sells out eventually. and face it, you wouldn't know about them if they hadn't.

  • best music ever. fuck them for selling out

  • You know, It's so fucking Cliche to pull the "Sell Out" card. Big fucking deal. Is it so bad for a band to have success? Big labels don't necessarily mean selling out either. It just means that they have more of a chance to be heard by more people. Against Me still makes tight music, sell outs or not. So fuck you.

  • dude you suck

  • I think I'm addicted to this song.

  • I love this song.

  • this song is the anthem of all underground touring bands and the whole basement show scene.

  • I completely agree

  • goodbye AM!
