Seems to me that after Babarajagal, Donovan Leicht was off the radar for pop radio. A shame, really, because his output continued well into the 1970s. A bit experimental sounding here, but fairly well composed.
Veterans day was yesterday, and I was musing on the music that helped me cope in Vietnam exactly forty years ago; this little album - on cassette - shines brightly! Nice to hear Donovan again after all these long years!
@magicalmysterygirl I agree !!! Let's board that yacht and sail away to who knows where and leave all this shite behind ......dum dum dum diddy dum dum........
Any illusion of poor quality is probably intentional for any one who is familiar with Donavan. I get the distinct impression he likes to experiment with a wide range of distortions. ie Hurdy Gurdy Man etc.
Yeah, that's celtic rock from the album OPEN ROAD (1970)...
maybe you're confusing this song with "Jabberwocky" or any of the first songs from HMS Donovan album, which has the same sequence of chords and the same riff... donovan recorded another version with this chords to jabberwocky a year later "open road" came out...
I'm not a musician, but the backing track for "Jabberwocky" sounds like a more relaxed acoustic performance of the same song.
For those who don't know, HMS Donovan is mostly an album were Donovan wrote music children's verses written by Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear, etc. that knew as a child. It came out after Open Road, but according Wikipedia was recorded on and off starting in 1968 to 1971. Open Road was recorded and release during this time, meaning Jabberwocky might of come first.
Thank you- there is someone else on earth who thinks the same asme. This whole album is a MASTERPIECE but never gets any accolades- Donovan has stuck to his beliefs all of these years.
Ah influenced this Donovan lad, ya know. Nae bother, ah'm usually "under the influence" masel ,LOL, Shuggy

The poor quality is due to stupid mp3 compression. Nothing to do with Donovan.

this is not celtic rock

No, it ain't Enya. It's the name of this particular song off the album "Open Road"--arguably Donovan's masterpiece, conceptually.

Celtic Rock is the name of the song and it's what called the type of music he was doing at time.
I does sound like something Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span or The Albion Band might have done.
