Let's keep it real. For example, they would not fare well if forced to compete against squads in the NCAA dance team championships. There is a different standard there. What they do, they do well.

They have technique on the feel and also can spit out dance terms like their first language. Grambling State University ladies are classy in the stands and on the field. Just to letting you know there are more than SU dancers out there.

@coleslie59 Just an illusion of showing skin. The Dolls have on tights or stockings. The part of the uniform that is not blue is flesh tone. The uniform is actually long sleeved and goes all the way up to their neck. Look closely when the camera zooms in at 6:55.

southern has come along way, they use to just be loud and caotic, but now their sound is well balances and is just beautiful..... southern is most def running the swac this year!
Southern University's band ensemble is starting this season of 2010 off very strong! I love it when the director says, "One-two bring that mustard!" The band has a well balanced sound and the "Dolls" look diverse, which is what a lot of HBCU marching bands need. Also the the leader of the "Dolls" is very consistent with her movements in the stands. Excellent job SU!

i understand why people came up with the light skin myth of the dancing dolls, back in the day, most of the line were light skinned, but im happy that they have all shades of color, this is by far one of the best dancing dolls lines and they have some beautiful women on the line, beautiful black and hispanic women!! gotta love it, lol!

I seriously don't see all the hype for this band. SU has an ensemble of brass instruments who just scream and don't know how to release notes. That's only reason why they are the loudest. You would outblast anyone if you had 8 or 9 lines of brass and only 3 lines of woodwinds. Best in the SWAC? LOL hell no! GSU, PV, UAPB all have the better sounding bands because they don't have a ridiculous amount of brass screamers.

Could someboy please tutor the Tubas on clarity on the first song. Y'all start the damn song off. But BETTER on the second song. Fiberglass ain't the only reaseon they sound like that.

@coleslie59 Just an illusion of showing skin. The Dolls have on tights or stockings. The part of the uniform that is not blue is flesh tone. The uniform is actually long sleeved and goes all the way up to their neck. Look closely when the camera zooms in at 6:55.

Southern University's band ensemble is starting this season of 2010 off very strong! I love it when the director says, "One-two bring that mustard!" The band has a well balanced sound and the "Dolls" look diverse, which is what a lot of HBCU marching bands need. Also the the leader of the "Dolls" is very consistent with her movements in the stands. Excellent job SU!

i understand why people came up with the light skin myth of the dancing dolls, back in the day, most of the line were light skinned, but im happy that they have all shades of color, this is by far one of the best dancing dolls lines and they have some beautiful women on the line, beautiful black and hispanic women!! gotta love it, lol!

5 song selections non-stop, and yall still gave so much energy throughout!! I was sleepin on yall (in the stands) for a minute, but yall are working out this year! Why isn't the whole line smiling?

However, it just erks me to no end when I hear folks, particularly those in college and high school, still talking about light-skin vs. dark-skin color! I'm so glad that I didn't grow with that kind of talk in my family! As Spike Lee said at the end of the movie "School Daze" . . . WAKE UP!!!

Dancers, you are looking lovely and classy.
Band, you guys are cleaning up and gaining that crisp sound back but Trumpets man y'all need discipline. You guys are in the stratosphere above the octave and we can hear it but learn to cut those notes off and quit hanging over. A+ Band and y'all got me missing home.

beauty comes in all colors, im proud that all types of beauty are found on this danceline, dark skin is very beautiful, and the captain is too, shes amazing, im glad that they choose girls based on talent and not color, its poathetic that black people cant accept our own beauty, such a shame, slaverty ended years ago and were still talking about light skin and dark skin, black is beautiful period!!

Even though it's your opinion which you are entitled to, that was an ugly thing to say about the captain's hair. It's obvious by all the dancers' hair that the humidity that evening was kickin'.

She's one of the best HBCU dancers in decades. You need to stop hating and recognize beauty and class when you see it. Not that trash your dance squad is bringing this year!
