My dad appeared in many of the episodes of the series and I managed to meet many of the cast, which was interesting. A couple were well stuck up, the rest were down to earth.
The middle-eight always makes me imagine Jan Harvey, Stephen Yardley, et al drinking champers on board the yacht in the sunshine; probably nibbling on vol-au-vents and passing round a box of Ferrero Rocher too, while discussing all manner of upper-class la di da whatnot.
I was a powerboar engineer and also crewing on a yacht when this series was going out - it makes me think of happy times. Only thing is that in this series no one gets wet, cold or filthy or uses a chemical toilet - lol ! Maurice Colbourne RIP
I would be in my room upstairs, and then i would hear this tune come on from the TV downstairs, as my mom and dad always watched it without fail!! It always reminded me to think, "Oh crap its a Sunday, i need to get my homework done for school!!" It it was like an alarm call!! Time to turn off the spectrum 128K and study/homework would begin!! I would have failed my exams if it was not for Howards Way so dont slag it off!!! ;)
That's one helluva tremendous advert for Howard's Way there, B29197. The idea that you could make life in a hampshire shipyard seem glamorous was a wretched plot premise from the outset, but that god awful theme music was like sticking the boot into a cripple.
You are absolutely right about the acting, dermot51. None was more wooden than the shows principal character Tom Howard played by Maurice Colbourne, after whom the show was named. Halfway through the last season he unfortunately popped his clogs which meant the scriptwriters had to do a hasty rewrite to account for his absence. At the start of the fifth season Kate Omara was brought in to try to add some sex & glamour to the proceedings, but not even gorgeous Kate could save this sorry mess!.

I was most probably upstairs wanking myself off to the porn mags my Mum would always end up finding (sooner or later) when this pile of horses' shite was on.
How about Emmerdale Farm, Crossroad, Coronation Street, Van Der Valk,Hazel,This is your life, top of the pops,Bouquet,Another Bouquet,Mike Yarwood, Benny Hill, Michael Crawford, the two Ronnies, Match of day (Jimmy Hill)..,, many many more.....They're all TV favourites in 50's,60's,70's , what the wonderful good old days.
Howards Way,Bullseye,The Last Of The Summer Wine,That's Life,Highway,The Antiques Roadshow...great Sunday night viewing. The only thing that spoilt the 1980's was the Thatcher Government.
Great Music ! Great Show ! I was lucky enough to watch several episodes being made & met several of the cast as my father acted in several of the episodes.. So it brings back many fond memories listening to this...
Just gorgeous. Even though it was played by a full orchestra, it wasn't the tune itself that was so popular I think but the arrangement. The whole thing is held together like glue by some lush synth !!!!
fascinating to watch this again, 20 years after it was broadcast, and realise how bobbins it all was, but how massively nostalgic: I'm instantly 11 again! The incidental music sounds like "High Flying Adored", from Evita; bet Lloyd-Webber ripped it off Howards Way - he'll plunder anything, the ropey old sod.
i'd have this as my ringtone lol

Memories. My crush on Jan Harvey back then was acute & intense. She was too sexy for words.
