I've done both. As a matter of fact just got back from a 2 hr parking garage ses. They're a little diff, but knowing one will def help with the other.
Hey if you want some free stuff even without a credit card pm me your email and i will send you an invite to lockerz within 5 min to get this stuff!!! My friend got a 64gig ipod touch and another got a freakin ps3!!!!! Lockerz is invite only so pm me damn it!!!!
@morph995 I'm sure those were pure reactive smiles to the fact they survived that. If you hear him before you see his face, he doesn't sound very happy at all.
if you get caught in an avalanche try to swim to stay on top of it... or once it is stopped and you are burried... make a hole and spit to see what way is up before you start digging...
to: 2tallbrandon BULLSHIT.. go try it yourself.. if you are caught in avalanche, and you and your friends have the equipment and everybody knows how to use it, than you have a chance, otherwise you are dead..
@2tallbrandon when you get buried under an avalanche it doesn't matter which way is up, its packed so tightly its like being in concrete, you need help getting out.
@Ryuzaki10101 .....Really? if your upside down and panic digging deeper; cause it is easier to dig down then up, you just made things worse... spitting is the only way you can determine which way is up. not to mention if you plan to hit terrain that is prone to sliding ALWAYS carry an E-tool or equiv, GPS beacon, insta heat pack these things may save your life!
Concrete? not in my experience, and I've been buried more then once. CA, WY, CO, but never been anywhere like the alps or Alaska.
@2tallbrandon I really hope your post is a joke! Im calling yah out.....you have no idea what your talking about and i dont mean start an argument but you couldnt really think you could put some bullshit on here and really expect someone not to see it and say something.
@kjholumn1 well... I lived in laramie Wyoming 7200ft elevation snow 6 months out the year, and was on team at squa valley when i was in high school, done multiple heli trips in oregon outside of mt hood... and yes Been in a few small slides... The one in this video is larger then what I have been in, but if you watch enough TV im sure you have seen the series on discovery about surviving avalanches. this same advice was in there. so... Thanks, Happy New Year : P
@2tallbrandon People who've been buried all tell the same story.
Once it stops you can't move... at all. When even your fingers are cemented in place by the rapidly hardening snow there's no way in hell you'll be able to dig.
Fight to get to the edges of the slide... fight to stay afloat... fight like hell to keep some room around your chest and face so you can breathe and then settle in and wait for your buddies... because you're not getting out without them unless you're right at the surface.
@2tallbrandon Swimming - exactly how everyone is taught to do it... strange that the only people it seems to keep on the surface are those who wouldn't have been buried anyway. I wonder how effective it really is.
True, if you can dig, finding "up" is important... but frankly, you're lucky to have been able to move at all, let alone dig out and not be anchored by your board. Most seem to report it being impossible to keep limbs close in or mouth clear.
@nrwtube Depends on the conditions, but yes in a worse case scenario when its thick tumbling chunks of snow covered ice... and you manage to survive the initial impact, moving may be rather difficult and digging probably impossible... But in the right conditions, it may prove to be more of a hassle then anything... A very humbling hassle but still a pain. Its not fun to dig your self out. Like I said before, I never said it was easy...
@daglowsac Go to a winter survival class, anywhere and this is what they will tell you. Navy, Search & Rescue, hell even those pointless specials on surviving avalanches have all said the same thing. Seeing as how I have been in more then 1 slide and this is what I did.. And I am still alive... I'd say it works just fine. Sure conditions are everything, 1 ton slabs of ice falling down a mountain, yeah your pretty screwed, but if the powder beneath you is sliding like in this video, it will work
@2tallbrandon It ain't easy to swim on top of it while you're in full gear and with bindings on. In soft powder, you only get deeper the more you struggle in that shit.
@Feylihn that's the fucked up part of powder. But wel.. Invest in yourself for the normal freeriding i have got my normal avalance gear. And for the hardcore shit i got myself a ABS backpack! That shit really works!
This snowboarder, after surviving the degree of difficulty by avlanche, should not be beeped. He should also take this as a wake up call from the mountain. Sometimes you get the mountain of snow & sometimes the mountain of snow gets you. Lucky, lucky boy. The moral of the story is - don't beep with Mother Nature.

I agree to fight like hell to stay on top. In my opinion it kinda felt like a swimming motion.
This is true, getting buried deep with your limbs stuck out, your pretty screwed...
If you can manage to dig, the first thing you need to do is figure out which way is up...
Spitting is the best I can come up with.
The worst time I was buried it was only about 3 feet in powder to my head and another 3 to my board... It took me about 30 minutes to get out.
Never said it was easy.

Plan A is: ride with buddies who can dig.
