  • I’m east orthodox Serb and our religious music is different and very much relying on Byzantine tradition.

Byzantine Empire was destroyed in 1453. by Ottoman Turks.

My poor Serbian people fought for 600 years not to be converted to Catholicism or Islam.

Although I could not deeply understand true meaning of these beautiful lyrics, I’m deeply touched and very intrigued about protestant heritage. I somehow find it very close to Serbian tradition.

And God bless America, wherever you are.

  • @mstipich1

As an American I thank you for your kind words. God bless you.

  • All our ancestors came here for religous freedom so i would sing this in war than any other song

  • This sounds like a Church version. There's no power in it, just sappiness.

  • @ral1334 The power is in the blood of Jesus who inspires the lyrics of the song.

  • @bobf72450 I think it was the book of Revelation that inspired the lyrics. Regardless, it's a good song, just a horrible rendition.

  • this version is missing a few verses

  • Nice tune...those patriotic songs always give me goose bumps !

  • awsome

  • Who are the men singing this? Is it Squire Parsons and Danny Funderburk?

  • FINALLY I FINISHED

  • TY! i needed the lyrics for my social studies class :/

  • The proper lyrics are much better

  • @andrewwpwhite1978 These are the proper lyrics from the writer.

  • @andrewwpwhite1978

I agree. This is a 'Battle' hymn, not a 'peace' hymn. So many men were giving the last full measure of devotion when this was written that Howe thought that if men had to die, let them die to make men free. To change the lyrics somehow ignores their sacrifice.

  • I'll pass on this pacifist version, it's terrible

  • religion and politics MUST be separated. Countries exist, gods do NOT

  • @wwwonderful ha ha, prove it then ^_^

  • @wwwonderful That's ridiculous.

  • I want this song to be for Abraham Lincon. He deserves to be remembered and is a man of great faith, trusting the Good Lord completely. I will do the same, I will trust God with everything I've got.

  • There are no Athiests in Foxholes. Long live the Republic!

  • These aren't the original lyrics. This is the pacifist version--"As he died to make us holy, let us LIVE to make all free." The original is, "As he died to make us holy let us die to make all free." Personally, I much prefer this version.

  • @kb866825 Thank you for clearing this up. I had not noticed the difference. Shalom.

  • @bobf72450 Happy to help. Peace to you too, my friend. Happy Thanksgivings, and an early happy Hanuka, and whatever else you celebrate.

  • @bobf72450 Interesting pivotal difference. Ultimately it asks...Who are You?

  • @kb866825 Hahahah ... the "politically correct" version.

  • @MarcellusTheGreen screw that, i'll stay with the "politically incorrect version"

  • @kb866825 Wrong. As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free.

  • @cherylclair as kb already stated, that is the pacifist version. the original lyrics in the war was"Let us die to make men free"

  • @wedgy4life Oh I know. My reference was to the use of the word "all" rather than men.

  • @kb866825 nut the original lyrics make more sense. After all it is a battle hymn.

  • @kb866825 it's not the pacifist version it's the version for people who don't want to die version :)

  • @kb866825 Thank you Bob.

  • The fusion with God and SPIRITUAL war is nothing wrong with.

But the moment they add mans war to the video,i feel a disgusted feeling.

    I didnt always though,but i do now.

The only exception is when it comes to resistance, like when the americans freed europe from the nazis, but that version is different, those lyricks havent got anything to do with God.

  • @JawsBrink War is always war, "resistance" or not.

  • We are all in His hands. Things will get worse before they get better. Evil is afoot. We will need the intervention of Almighty God. May He come soon!!

  • This is all going to be happening very soon guys, make sure you're ready for it. Christ is coming back very soon to take us home to be with Him, and those who haven't received Him into their hearts and obeying His commandments will be left behind. If you are ready then tell those who may not be, let everyone know that He is waiting for us to come to Him so He can save us from eternal damnation. Don't wait, it may be too late, He can't wait forever He must come when sent. He is coming soon.

  • I am shocked...SHOCKED...that the comments section of a youtube video has failed to conclusively solve peoples fundamental differences on the subject of religion.

  • @ems73000 Yoiu are so right. All these ridiculous claims that god exists should be banned

  • Love the tune and name of the song, but I never really realized what a jesus song it is...... Wow......

  • Ops I did a double post HAHA. Double blessings for you. :P

  • Nicely put together. ;) Very fitting and always a great hymn. God bless you. God bless our troops. ;) Hallelujah!

  • Look how man countries viewed this! GOD IS MARCHING ON!

  • Omg, we learned this song in music class.

  • now that is i called christian music!!

  • Religious people are the best when it comes to mobilize people and feelings. Changes nothing to the truth though. There's no one out there folks! Chant on, pray on. You're only chanting and praying to yourself (and to each other).

  • @jt21419 And hopefully you are right. Otherwise....

  • Good Lord who sings this? Beautiful rendetion!

  • "In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea..." I ALWAYS get chills when I hear that verse

  • i dont mean to sound offensive but since everyone else posted an opinion of god, but if god truly loved us, he wouldnt have given us free will, he would control us, because that way the world would be peaceful and you wouldnt need god in battle, but in the same way, if god didnt give us free will, and there were no wars, than technology today would still possibly be dark age technology, which either means god gave up on us, or he isnt as powerful as we think

  • @odstguy89

noooooooooo. He gives us free will BECAUSE He loves us. free will is worth the trials, the violence and the corruption. without free will, we are not alive

  • @raigekimaru I agree, think of the battle that's been occurring for a such a long time and I mean a spiritual battle. Satan plays a tug of war in our minds and try to make us battle on his terms. I chose to battle in God's terms, instead of fighting and going down someone's throat, I use Love for victory and repent for the mistake I've made. No one is perfect, even angels slip and fall. Just get up, brush off, forgive what you did and move forward.

  • Thanks for posting :D God bless

  • @pvtdark I had rather have God with me in battle than to be without Him. The words of this song were not meant to put God into war, but rather speak about His truth going forth in a spiritual battle against unrighteousness and evil. The words are important because that is what the song is about.

  • @bobf72450 Yeah, there are no atheists in foxholes.

  • @bobf72450 Well said, my brother in Christ. God bless you, and God bless America. Amen.

  • @pvtdark He's not called the "Lord of Hosts" for nothing, you know. War (and occasionally even genocide, see the Biblical story of the ethnic cleansing of Canaan) has been a part of the Abrahamic religions from their earliest origins.

  • @pvtdark That's because you are letting your preconceived ideas of God run your thinking, the Bible says he is coming to make war & judge, and the saints will be coming with Him. It's pretty clear in scripture.

  • @pvtdark the song dates back to the American civil war in which the Union soldiers had a great deal of faith. It is easier for aman to fight for his God than to fight for his president, this song captured that feeling.

  • @Fallenkezef and what about the south? were they not only defending there country? It's not a movie where one is trully good and the other is trully bad.. Sure slavery was morally wrong but that was not the only reason for war. the tenth amendment was lost in the war.. let us not forget all 600,000 who died both union and confederate.

  • Far too slow

  • On Canaan's Happy Shore.

  • Actually any war could be blamed on religion. The only wars truly caused by religion were the crusades and even that was about claiming territory. The civil war was caused over poverty in south

  • @gregdye I agree with you 100%!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Just about everybody (both side) was religious and believed in the Christian fairytale. Their silly and inately ridiculous religious beliefs justified war and killing fellow humans in the name of some supernatural, invisible sky-god. How sick. Over 600,000 U.S. Citizens butchered to death and over a million men seriously wounded. Over what? Religion!!!!!

  • @gregdye What? What, you think the war was fought over religion? Were you paying attention during history class? Did the Emancipation Proclamation just whizz over your head?

I mean you're seriously uneducated of you really think that. The good American Christians were hesitant to fight and kill their brothers, but they knew it had to be done, for freedom, justice, and everything that America stood for.

Or maybe freedom doesn't sound worth fighting for to you, you barbarian.

  • @PaleChariot . Instead of simply looking at what people are doing, I like to find out why people behave and think in certain ways. There are often very important underlying reasons for why things happen. Throughout human civilization, religion has been the major underlying cause for much war, persecution, prejudice, death, genocide, and other evils. The Christian religion was the major underlying cause for the American Civil War. You should read Religion and the American Civil War by R. Miller

  • Don't get too excited about the Christian aspect. Julia Ward Howe wrote the lyrics as a pro-Union anthem during the Civil War. Her experiences during that war made her a pacifist, and her efforts later led to Mother's Day (Against War).

  • I'm a Muslim and I love this song. Although Christians might disagree, I believe that I believe in the same God as them (Allah means God literally in Arabic. An Arabic-speaking Christian would call God "Allah" if he didn't know English.)

  • @TheAdjundantReflex With all kindness, Allah is not the same God Christians believe in. Allah it is said calls "for the destruction of Israel and all Jews". Allah calls for "his" people in Islam to kill all non-believers of Islam. Our God says to pray for non believers and to share His Word so they may know that HE is God. The problem with the world is sin. Jesus came to us the first time to save all sinners from eternal hell. No matter where they live. His Word is truth. With all love to you.

  • @Dapeaceofjesus

While your entitled to your beliefs, Allah does not say that at all. That's simply a piece of misinformation that has been circulating about Islam.

Our God says to kill one innocent person is like killing all of humanity.

I hope I helped clarify a few things.

  • @TheAdjundantReflex I'm only speaking about what Hamas, the leader of Iran, the Taliban, Osama Bin Laden, Al-Jeezera news reports on satellite tv, and dozens of YouTube videos have stated publicly. In other words the misinformation is being circulated by thousands of Islamic people. If that thinking is wrong in your opinion...please express it here on Youtube. I'm sure we'd like to hear opposition to popular Islamic reasoning from a follower of Allah.

  • @Dapeaceofjesus

No, you're completely right. Misinformation is circulated by Islamic people. You would seldom find 100 Muslims who theologically agree on a given thing. I am of a sect called the "Ahmadiyya Muslim Community." Feel free to Google it, as our website is very informative on all of our political, religious, and normal/random beliefs. Everything on that site is basically everything I believe.

Was nice speaking with you =)

  • all hail god, our creator and eternal father and protecter, amen.

  • Great song, I'm an atheist lol but I'm still a patriot

  • Historical info link is posted under the song information above.

    His truth is marching on!!!

    GOD BLESS YOU ALL

  • it touched me

  • God bless the USA!!!

  • THIS is what America needs to go back to...the Bible and the American flag. Forget about political correctness.

  • @Onlymanolos Amen to that!

  • @Onlymanolos Politically correct is a synonym of incorrect.

  • @Onlymanolos Amen!! My pastor says basically the same thing when ever we sing this in church

  • @Onlymanolos so true its getting to be a bit much already with all the politics

  • Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord: He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword: His truth is marching on. (Chorus) Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

  • Nice picture of a Jewish man blowing a shofar in the second verse's background.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG. JESUS IS MY SAVIOR.

  • we was singing this in music class last year at Taylorsville Elem.

  • This is a hymn and as a hymn has one and only one purpose. The glory, honour and praise of the Eternal Almighty.

  • we are singing this sis music class! I love it!!! Except in music class we sing it faster! ahah i like it faster better!

  • @MrsValerieBieber THANK YOU VALERIE. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOU SING IT.

  • @MrsValerieBieber I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING. CAN YOU RECORD YOUR CLASS SINGING IT AND PUT IT UT?

  • @MrsValerieBieber

You are right, Valerie. It is a march and should be sung to march tempo. I am still looking for a group which realises this. Even the army doesn't seem to know that.

  • @MrsValerieBieber I prefer it like this, but hey whatever you like, all the more to you! Hope you did well, seeing that was 3 months ago ..lol

  • @MrsValerieBieber i am singin dis song 2 i really like dis song n we do sing it faster

  • @MrsValerieBieber same here i learned this last year and my whole class and me sung it for a concert for school and we did too sing it faster!

  • A very good recording until the last verse. Unfortunately, I don't care for the style of the last singer.
