I would like to give a update on my son who is in the video. He has really come a long way and is graduating High School on Sunday. I am so very proud of all he has overcome. He has many friends now and enjoys spending time with them. He even went to Prom this year. NO matter who we are and what are challenges are we can overcome and live a successful life. Never stop believing in yourself.
One more thing though, I despise the way the woman in the end is talking about Asperger's. It's not a disease, it's a personality. In my opinion, and I've done ALOT of research about this, if Asperger's didn't exist, the human way of thinking would go in circles and instead of living like we do now, we'd be throwing rocks at eachother living in caves.
I was also diagnosed with Aspergers when I was 9 (3 years ago) Because of my high intellect (178 IQ) and the typical way of thinking Aspies have. Though I've never really experienced the worst sides about Asperger's, my psychologist testing me described me as someone with ''Teflon around the brain'' The bad emotions are repelled, and the good ones can enter. I entered a special school for people with Asperger's and high intellect, so I've never experienced bullying.
Oh yes. I'm a 35 year old Asperger's lady and went through absolute hell throughout my youth. I was treated like a dog because I couldn't fit in with the others. No one bullied me again after school, but the trust and self esteem took a long time to repair. At 35, I'm still working on it.
what i did was start lifting weights and learned to box! if you start giving them some of their medicine you find they cannot take in what they dish out!!! stay strong...
I am amazed...dumbfounded...on a daily basis by the cruelty and hostility of so-called "normal" human beings. I am glad I am not normal, because I would not want to be like that. I am 31, and although the bullying has disappeared, the rejection and hostility remain ever present. It sometimes helps to think of them like animals...a pack of dogs, for example. They are acting instinctually. It is their nature. If you can learn a little about their animal behavior, you can avoid some of the attacks.
You have the right attitude and are obviously a smart kids. Good for you! My son has ASD and your video helped him understand some of what is hapening to him with bullying. Shame on everyone else for not making as much effort to better understand the needs of poeple with AS and ASD.
Ty for your kind words. As you know life has been difficult and we all need to find our place. It is just to bad it has to be the way it is. I wish your son much luck and success in his life.
I have Asperger's. People who bully others with AS have no business in doing so. They think they're all high and mighty just cause the bullying victim is too afraid to fight back in some way. I remember in school wanting to kick everyone's ass for bullying me but I was too afraid of getting in trouble. And when I got in trouble it was all one sided. People who bully in general either need to get help or get a serious attitude adjustment. Then there are time that they deserve an ass kicking.
1st of all..I like ur sound bckground..but makes me cry..maybe, cuz 1 of my sibling has PDD(autism) 2..almost same as ur story..but I always teach her 2 ignore it & I always go 2 school 2 guide her when she was at junior high..now she"s at 10th grade & still fighting w/ her fears..hoping to all parents w/ non dsability teach our siblings not 2 bully other kids, especially people w/disability..teach them at home every single day..so they can faced the world w/ NO FEARS..
30 years of emotional hell from my poor confused parent's. 30 of stumbling around in the dark wondering what my problem was. 15 years of getting fired from jobs because I didn't fit in. 30 years of being mis-understood. My father tried to get me to accept, "It's better to understand, than to be understood!" I was suppose to quietly suffer and show no frustration, no indignance, no anger at all. My duty was to quietly suffer the way my mom and dad did. You're OK Don, don't ever think otherwise!
You seem a lot better off than I was at your age Don. Please don't think I'm downplaying your experiances. I know a great deal of what you've been through. I had the same thing you went through but, made a lot more hellacious by the fact that everyone figured I was just a very badly behaved kid. Who wasn't trying hard enough. Compounded a hundred times worse by my emotionally unstable parents who meant well. But, couldn't deal with themselves let alone a kid with Asperger's.
I have Aspergers myself, I received my diagnosis around Grade 7. I never knew about until I was told and now since I've learned more about the condition myself I have to admit, it's a very interesting condition. It's a shame people ridicule things that shouldn't be put into ridicule. I wish you the best!
kid, i am nineteen years old and i know the feeling. where people want to abandon you because 'your different'. these kind of people only bully you because they want control over your life. make you feel like that piece of garbage everyday. i felt the same thing. but i changed because of the brutality. instead of sucide i grew into a soul so loathing of people that i insult people every single day for what they did to me. even my older brother, who hurt me too. i didnt grow sad, i grew heartless.
Unfortunately, teachers rarely would stop bullying, I know, I had enough of it, yes, i'm waiting for diagnosis for AS.
Anyway, I remember what my schooldays were like, funny thing is, if you hit the bullies with something, you were very seriously in the wrong, just as well my judgement and discipline when I co-ran a youth club was different!
Hey kid. As you get older, the pain gradually goes away. As I watched you speak, all the torturous memories of my teenage years flooded back. You've probably felt that there's no way forward, but I assure you that leaving school and growing older does comforting things. I'm 24 and have learned to enjoy my own company and realise that the only approval in life that matters is your own.
i was bullyed extesivly everyday from grade 3 to 10 it hurts and has coused many social trust issue, the best way i dealt with it was to form a close nit group of freinds if posable and fight it out also i found a hobby to forget about the crappy days i was haveing. if i was gettin picked on at school which i normaly was id slip out and sit on my own when noone was watching weather school grounds or not i just had to escape im an adult now but it still hurts
I am an older Aspie. Bullying continues in the workplace and even in the family. But what is also bad is the larger number of people that silently avoid you. Thats the bigger loss.
aw this sucks man :( I've aspergers too.. i know, life can be a bitch some times... I did get bullied as a kid.. now on high school i don't let any asshole mess with me anymore... don't let them bring you down man your so much better than them
know dr stephen mccullough who works at salk institute. he is deaf and has aspergers. he is very fond of neurology. he is comfortable in the research world, but is uncomfortable socially
I have Aspergers and ive have never ever been bullied. I think its cuz of my lenght, i am 1.86meters tall and i have a very dark voice. But my Cousin who had ADHD Got bullied for beign Different. I dont realy think thats fair :/
Lucky. I am 4cm taller but was still bullied. The way bullying seems to work is people try their luck on you, and if they get their way then you become a target and you then become a social outcast which only increases the bullying. When one person sees someone bully someone and get away with it, then the next person comes along to "take their turn".
My son and I both have mild AS. What the world does not realize is that you are BLESSED with the super ability of looking at the world differently. I've been told Bill Gates and Thomas Edison suffered from AS, but I would not say the world suffered because of them. I tell my son all the time that we are gifted with brains capable of so much more than the average person. Train yourself, focus on making life tasks into games. God does not make junk, use what's in your head to stand out.
I agree with what your saying i also have relatively mild Aspergers. I was diagnosed when i was 5 and im 19 now so im close to "neurotypical". I think what society needs to focus on is understanding the word "autism". Most people see autism as "mental retardation" because classic autism can cause MR. But the thing is, every human on the fucking planet has "autism' because all it means is "selfism". If you can understand "autism" than you've cured it. I hate it when idiots parrakeet "autism"
I have a friend with aspergers. He's homeschooled, but I invited him to a church lock-in. Most of my friends were nice to him and didn't seem to even notice he was different , but one of the girls kept mocking him for things like putting on his "anti-itch cream". I mean, we're in a church! Can't WE at least be nice to people like that?
I think and I don't know exactly, but isn't a lot of this due to the amount of shots the kids get, when they are young. It seems to me that the drug companies are giving to many to soon to kids, which could be messing with the brain sorta say. I do feel for these kids, and I know what they are going through, I have been there in school, even without it. Keep your head up.
It's me again. I know I posted 2 or 3 comments on this vid months ago, but there's more than verbal abuse for me. Just a little update. Sometimes I'll say something that a lot of cool kids say. When I say it, someone tells me not to say it again because I'm not cool enough to say it. I hate it when that happens.
I have aspergers and i dont like having it, they better come up with a treatment that will help supress it. i have lost friends cause of it and ive been made fun of by potential friends and have trouble maintaining a convo and thinking about what to say, my handwriting sucks and im doing horrible in school. i dont want to have aspergers anymore, i have anxiety when trying to speak to girls and i sometimes take things to far and dont know when to stop. i do not know how people like to be talked 2
I dont feel like it should be a Cure for Aspergers. Maybe a way to make it Easier for Aspergers to live a Social Life but there is so much good about Aspergers to! Without People with AS There should be so much things missing Without it. Example: Computers (Yea, there should be no Microsoft cuz Bill Gates have Aspergers) and Albert Einstein had Aspergers to, and maybe Isaac Newton. And i dont think many people is gonna understand but i have Aspergers to and are very Proud of it!
Well I hope you come to this page and read these responses. I'm 24 years old with AS. I went through that, my family whom did drugs and alcohol and I've been molested three times.
First off, you may have thought about it, such as I, but never commit suicide. I will tell you this and it is true, over 90% of those people will become losers and you most likely will not when you are all out of school and out in the real world.
...The counsellor tried explaining to them to leave me alone, but people responded with things such as "psycho, he smells and he's stoned". Wanting to fit in, I believed every word they said, became bitter and depressed, and felt I had to put myself down to keep people happy. I changed schools when I moved countries and because of the previous experience, I was so anxious I fell sick. However I am fitting in so well now my new teachers don't even know I'm autistic.
Surprise surprise, I have Aspergers/high functioning autism too and I'm almost 17. This gives me good intelligence with average social skills. With me, it's make friends now or be bullied for the rest of the year. At an old school I went to, In just 1.5. years I've been called every name in the book, beaten up, been dobbed in, had things stolen/rummaged through. I'm apparently also a "drug addict" due to the glazed look and oddly funny smell (dunno what it is/smells like)...
I got diagnosed with Aspergers too this guy reminds me of me in elementary school. What pissed me off even more than kids picking on me was teachers who read my iep and assumed I was mentally handicapped because they didn't have an understanding of what AS was. I only had mild Asperger's and could function better than most kids who had it. I rather have people think I'm weird than try to "over-diagnose" me or act like they know what AS is when they don't.
I was diagnosed with Aspergers when I was quite young. I have been bullied over my disorder. I have been called names like retard, as has the boy in the video. I also have to have extra people help me in my lessons, particularly in maths.
I was struggling to cope because the teachers were not doing anything about it. I then went and spoke to my local youth worker who dealt with thde issue at school.
Aspergers syndrome is thought of as a real pathology, isn't it? Not that there's anything pathological about it, it is societies' inability to accommodate it that makes it pathological. I'm so tired of hearing random, illegitimate people saying things like, "Aspergers is a horrible condition that will steal the soul of your kid." Shut up, step down, or DO something about it!
Having Aspergers for me is like being Bruce Banner trying to control the hulk everyday I struggle to get a handle on it and everyday sometimes its harder and sometimes easy its hard to really understand this beast.
im 17 with asbergers and i think it ruined my life , i never even relised the way i was interacting with people was any different until i was 15 and someone told me, if anyone knows anyway to get treatment and try to be normal acting message me
Had the same troubles all my life. You have to understand that changing yourself isn't worth it. You can have all the friends you want if you want to drink, use drugs or act stupid. That's the way it is. A better way is to join clubs like Toastmasters where good communication skills are wanted, and Ultimate Frisbee for health/exercise
Aspergurs didnt ruin your life, you did by thinking that. It dont matter what condition you have, or if you even have one. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE NORMAL. Trust me... It would be best to acept yourself for who you are. Lifes fucking short man, you gotta make the best of it before it ends.
man where do you live? ill make sure the kids that bully you wont walk for a year. i have a handicap sister that has 1/2 a brain, so i defend people with mental disabilities
my son is nearly 7 and has recently been diagnosed with aspergers, he is already getting some form of bullying from a big kid in his class who thinks it is funny to see my son have one of his tantrums :( i fear for him and his future, which is why i am sending him to a different school next year, still mainstream (as he is very smart and special needs school will not challenge him enough)but it has an ASD unit as well. luckily he does have a good friend plus all the girls like him at the mo lol
hi, i got bullied from year 7 to early post 16 (UK eduction- age 11 to 16) it was tough with litlle friends or none as i was. but i know that most come from backgrounds that may not succed in life. so i put my head down and study the best i can to achieve my goal-study a degree in history. my favourite subject and many people asked 4 help which meant people became matured (post 16 have pleanty of good people) will same time devloped social skills-teen years r tough!
Hang tough!! Bullies grow up ... and most of them don't succeed as much as the kids they bullied! They either grow up themselves or they stay at the same place they were at 18 forever! I hope you get to go to a better school where the teachers and administrators put a stop to some of the needless torture of bullies.
It's disgusting that an obviously bright, sensitive boy with plenty of potential has to be subjected to this crap.
He's seems like a cool kid. Little bullies and cowards aside, what's stopping at least one other classmate from just trying to be his friend? Their loss in the end.
the bullies will get what they damn well deserve one day, you can try to teach ignorance, but some of these sick fuck bullies need a swift kick up the backside i reackon, i HATE bullies and i HATE what they do
I was diagnosed with it, but I don't think I really have it as I have "normal" friends and don't have a difficult time socializing. Sure I got bullied and shit, but everyone does. I eventually just stopped giving a crap what those bullies thought of me and that's when everything got better and I started to realize it was JUST the bullies that thought that way and I was actually well liked by others.
oooh, i am there with you, nooo... i'm gonna cry, even though i shouldn't be the sad one, you are. i really wish things will work out for you. i hope the bullies die or get raped or somethin. yup, rape for the bullies.
i wish i could give you a hug.'stay strong, and pretend they're not there. oh, man i would beat those bullies up for you
I totally sympathize with you and what youve gone through. i was bullied and used and exploited and taken advantage of and messed with by almost everyone I met my whole life. Its very hard to fit in socially when you have Aspergers. Its also very hard to find good freinds that will understand you and stick by you. Keep your chin up, things will get better.
Dude, you are NOT alone, and you are NOT a retard. I have Aspergers Syndrome too, I pretty much go through what you do. I can't talk without being told to shut up, I'm quiet, shy, don't have very many friends...yeah. I wish people would learn more about Aspergers so they could understand us.
I have 5 children but my 6 year old was diagnosed at 3 with PDD, very similar to Asperger's. He gets bullied by the other kids that call him "teachers pet". Very smart with numbers and science, but has bad social and behavior issues. I do believe Speech therapy, and occupational therapy are very important at an early age. My son is emotional and sensitive(which worried me)so I put him in a Tae Kwon Do class, then took piano classes, soccer, and now has a niche for singing. Find their intrests.
I have Aspergers. I'm somewhat of a pushover when it comes to saying stuff. Like I'll say one thing and they might not have a clue what I'm saying. I mean, I'm told to shut up. This happens during lunch and I eat with these people. When they do this, they don't mean it in a bad way. They do it to themselves, too, but I don't like it whatsoever.
i would get a godamn chainsaw and go leatherface on their assess!...yeah, i'd like to do that, but in reality i guess the best thing is to not go down to the bullies level, be the better person, it might be hard, but in the end you wont regret it.
I have Aspergers, and I think it's horrible when people tease you just to prove that they are 'not autistic themselves'.This is why they set up a group of friends for me at school, which I was happy about.
I have Asperger's and my son has Asperger's also. He was bullied at school and I remembered just how it feels because I was bullied by girls when I was at school. It's bull to say that 4 times more boys get diagnosed with Autism than girls - it's just that they miss in in girls due to ignorance among health profesisonals. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 35 when my son was diagnosed. I'm functioning well in society now, I am very successful but I don't want my son to go through crap I went through
This stuff pisses me off, i have aspergers ITS FUNCTIONAL AUTISM UNDERSTAND??? if you dont have it and you want to mjess with m,e, im happy to put you in pain as well, noone is better than me, little punk kids!
hey man, stay strong. i dont understand how people can live themselves knowing they put someone through that much pain. stay strong. you will come out on top
Hey kid, my name's KYLE. I also have AS, I'm 32 and I want to tell you that this bullying crap isn't going to last for ever. Now it is true that kids are cruel to each other and this is because their brains (the prefrontal cortex) aren't fully formed yet, it usually kicks in at around 18 years if they're lucky, but what I want to tell you is that I was bullied too when I was a kid, but once you get out of high school the bullying will end. There's usually not any bullying in college.
it's not quite true. I have Asperger's and I was bullied at school, at college and at university and lagter even in my job - by women! Any time there's a woman in authority - she seems to want to discrimintae and quietly pick on me - maybe it's just female rivalry but I don't think so because I'm not confrontational in any way. If anything, I'm too trusting and open and wish people well. Women are sneaky bullies with their whispering, sniggering and backstubbing. I get on better with males
I hear ya, man. I'm an aspie (age 30) and I got picked on when I was a kid. I worked as a teacher and there were staff members who picked on me too (I bet you never kew teachers got picked on too). But I taught myself to smoke out the people who I couldn't trust and how to respond.
Once a 'school aid" tried to get me to lend him $25 and I wouldn't give it. He tried to verbally pressure me, but I didn't back down. Not only did I feel like I'd won, but this man showed his true (thuggish) self.
Hey man, along with not understanding people too well, I had never known about this predatory thuggish behavior in some people until I moved to the ghetto. For my first four years here every one was always wanting me to give them rides places, use my phone, borrow money, they'd ask me for food and cigarettes. So after this time I learned about this behavior. I'm not saying that these people are bad, they just learned bad habits from their parents and piers. This is normal for them.
These people are called 'users'. I've been used a lot & I allowed it because after the years of being bullied & lonely, I wanted people to like me, i thought that's how you become friends - by helping people. But it's not friendship if they want to use you but never help you back. Even men sometimes used me in the past - people think that men are always nice to young pretty females. But something about me must've screamed 'different' to them because they didn't flirt but were aggressive
I had similar probs (I am or at least was an Aspie). I was bullied mercilessly, even physically attacked. Now, listen kid, most of those fellows who turned my life into hell back then, ended up in jails; all now have criminal record. Not kidding. When a childhood friend told me, I thought she's just tying to make me feel better. But then details started spilling, and they couldn't be possibly made up. The people who bully you will self-destruct. It's merely matter of time, beieve me.
bullies are scum and deserve to die. they make others feel like crap because they themselves are crap, human form of vermin. the type of bully i had was a big fuckin football player who thought his shit didn't stink cuz he could throw a football. Ignoring bullies just encourages them further. and the teachers either don't give a fuck or they can't do anything about it. if you're at the bottom, the only place left to go is to the top. there are many ways to fight back against a bully.
Don't believe what the bullies say, they "feed" on making life hard for people who are not "normal". In my view a person is a person no matter whether he/she is tall/short/fat/thin/black/white/ugly/not ugly. A person is still a person no matter how they are.
I have aspergers 2 When my friends normaly ask me about it I lie to them saying that I don't have a disability Is aspergers a disability Uggggggh! any Explanation?!
I am 15 and I have autism and like 98 % of the kids at my school hate me, I wish I was homeschooled but my grades are good in high school and my teachers are nice and intolerate any bullying that is happening. It's not just aspies that teenagers intolerate, they don't really care about anything except for themselves, their gfs/bfs, and their friends.
It's a tough world, I mean most parents don't even care if people bully others, why can't they teach their kids to be more tolerant?
I totally understand what you're going through because my cousin has autism and one of my friends actually has aspergers.
I don't have anything in that kind of matter but they tell me what they go through and they tell me how they feel and i'm always there to help.
I sometimes do get teased because of my severe Asthma so i can't even do phys ed and i'm always using the pump ( inhaler whatever lol) so i do get made fun of by ignorant people.
Bouvier79, it is really fucking hilarious how you post so positively on this video but not on the aspergers girl video, make up your mind, you either like autistic people or not, which you should.
You know, I also have Asperger's and have made a huge effort to be an NT on the outside. It's helped me make friends. The kid should lose weight like I did, lose the glasses, and get better clothes. And telling the teacher makes thing worse coz that means you're a rat. I'm gay and really have to make sure I'm not a femmie b/c that would have made things worse. My point is, Aspies should mitigate their ostracism and try to act normal. The NTs will help out. They have done it for me.
I also have Aspergers. Life isn't as difficult for me as it used to be. But I do get verbally abused behind my back, which is unfortunate. I'd rather not know what these people are saying about me, which is good. People who bully AS people should have their asses kicked.
People(NTs) can be so disgusting to people with Asperger's Syndrome. I have Asperger's Syndrome and I find life very difficult and bullying sickens me. I give ALL my sympathy, understanding, and I feel REALLY sorry for this kid who DOES put effort to be confident and stay positive about things, which I know he may find difficult to achieve sometimes. And then all these disgusting people just make it 100% times worse and harder for him and they just want to bring him down. And find it appauling.
I am an adult with Asperger's and have kids of my own. I wish I was homeschooled, but my parents kept me in a crappy public school were I was verbally abused. The teachers don't care and often said I was the case. What a bunch of b.s. I still get verbally abused by some adults such as my older son's father and have cps at my front door. The first thing they mention is my disability. What does that have to do with raising my kids. People like to use your disability against you and thats wrong.
God, bullies. They'll attack anyone who's different from them. Don't you just wish they'd all explode? Teachers are even worse. Beyond elementary school, they no longer care about the well-being of their students. They've got way too many students for that.
1: "Normal" overweight kids are often capable of giving back a smart reply when they are teased with their weight. That's a good defense which helps prevent more attacks. AS kids can't do that.
2: From personal experience I know that AS kids are looked upon as outsiders. But the other kids can't explain why. So they just find something they can bully on - simply because they want to bully an outsider. In my case it was many things but often my farmboy background.
thank you for this video - I see from your profile that you're from washtenaw...Michigan?? I'm from the Detriot area and my son has aspergers. I wish you and your son the very best and would love to learn more about your experiences with aspergers.
I was bullied at school for what i thought was me having better things than the bully.. but i realise now it was because i was different from him
i have got a brilliant name for our so called disability from wendy lawson's brilliant book, "build your own life" and i qoute: our disability is not a disabilty.. it makes us different hence the name "diffability"
i have, since reading this marvellous book incorporated the word "diffability" into my every day speech
Im 32 and my son son has autism, I never did, but suffered being overweight at school, I was teased and bashed at school, I now live the way i want to live my life NOT the way others thought i needed to live it, you are better than these idiots, you will grow and be stronger within yourself than all of them put together, trust me mate, it does get better, I channeled my anger of this through playing drums at an early age, which got me involved with others who like me for mw, keep your chin up!
mate, i am now 32,and my 5 yr old son has autism i never suffered Autism, but i did suffer from being overweight.I put up with alot through school, all i can say mate is keep your chin up, i know it hurts, but school is not forever, I now have my friends and live life the way I want to, not the way others think I should! you will become a stronger person than any of the idiots who tease you now. you will get through this, you may not see it now, but you will! all the best!!
This is so wrong man... I think you are really cool and I must say that I admire your courage to speak open about it!! More people should know about this! I am diagnosed with Aspergers myself and I don´t feel ashamed.. I have had litterly the same background as you and I know it takes for ever to heal.. but don´t give up man! ur strong! I am countin on ya!
This is so true! Actually the teachers are the main source or bullying. Many teachers did not realize how difficult teaching can be, they only thought about having the same days off as their children (which I understand). However, I have been in the schools and have seen what is going on. I think every parent should spend a day in a classroom (not their child's). I am sorry to those truly good teachers, but you know I am right, look down the hall, look up the hall and you will see a bully.
I'm almost 16 and I also have Asperger Syndrome. I get verbally abused, but I'm glad it happens behind my back because I don't want to know what some of these people are saying about me, unless if I'm told what's said. Those who don't understand AS and autistic people don't WANT to understand because they think everything's fine the way the way it is, when it's not.
We don't react well to words, body language, or facial expressions, which is why you have trouble at school. It's not your fault. I had the same problem at school. Kids treated me like shit.
Thank you so much for posting this. I am 27 and living with Aspergers. It was hard as a kid, I was beaten up, picked on, humiliated. ANd parents unaware of your condition and punishing me for my behavior. It was hell. Thank you for posting this and in a sense helping me see I am not alone. Kids can be so cruel.
Thanks for sharing your story and your life! I want you to know that this is temporary - I know it seems like forever - but they will grow up..and most will be ashamed of their treatment of you and others!
It will get better as you get older!
This makes me so ANGRY. Why don't parents teach their kids to behave like compassionate humans instead of nasty little brats!
Take care! Focus on the things and people you love! Enjoy what you enjoy!
Most public school environments are not good for those on the Autism Spectrum. Hopefully now that you are being homeschooled you will be able to get on with your education and life.
My son has Aspergers. He is 17 years old. when he was 15 he got beaten up by a boy everyday at school. My son brought a knife to school to protect himself. He was caught charged, kicked out of school, and put on probation. We have moved to a dif city. but still he's afraid to go to school. This same boy graduates this summer. Is that fair!
I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your son. It is so hard for them to handle. They feel helpless in a world they don't always understand. My son is being homeschooled due to we needed to look out for his well being. The public schools were not keeping him safe.
Well done for makig this, you are a wonderfull person, and remember what goes around comes around. The people that have made things difficult for you will get what coming to them !!
My Daughter who is 5 also has AS, and it is thanks to people like yourself taking the time to raise ASD awarness, hopefully her path through life will be make easier.
It is perfectly ok to be differant !! You are perfect just the way you are. xx
Man, I feel the pain of the adolescent. So sad. :'( Anyway, I was never bullied at school that much because I graduated from a small high school with 76 in my class in May 2007. I have 90% Asperger's and was diagnosed with the disorder in November/ December 2004. Thanks for posting this video.

K4inan 1 year ago 12
I never called it a disease. I am his mother and just because I compared Autism to diseases doesn't mean I think that is what it is.

You're OK Don, don't ever think otherwise!
narutofightindreamer 2 years ago

Dspider17 2 years ago 2
Unfortunately, teachers rarely would stop bullying, I know, I had enough of it, yes, i'm waiting for diagnosis for AS.
Anyway, I remember what my schooldays were like, funny thing is, if you hit the bullies with something, you were very seriously in the wrong, just as well my judgement and discipline when I co-ran a youth club was different!

Hey kid. As you get older, the pain gradually goes away. As I watched you speak, all the torturous memories of my teenage years flooded back. UsAndA95 2 years ago 6

God does not make junk, use what's in your head to stand out.
hanbury1 2 years ago 16
I agree with what your saying i also have relatively mild Aspergers. I was diagnosed when i was 5 and im 19 now so im close to "neurotypical". I think what society needs to focus on is understanding the word "autism". Most people see autism as "mental retardation" because classic autism can cause MR. But the thing is, every human on the fucking planet has "autism' because all it means is "selfism". If you can understand "autism" than you've cured it. I hate it when idiots parrakeet "autism"

Keep your head up.

...The counsellor tried explaining to them to leave me alone, but people responded with things such as "psycho, he smells and he's stoned".

I'm apparently also a "drug addict" due to the glazed look and oddly funny smell (dunno what it is/smells like)...
ophiuchus14 3 years ago
I got diagnosed with Aspergers too this guy reminds me of me in elementary school. What pissed me off even more than kids picking on me was teachers who read my iep and assumed I was mentally handicapped because they didn't have an understanding of what AS was. I only had mild Asperger's and could function better than most kids who had it. I rather have people think I'm weird than try to "over-diagnose" me or act like they know what AS is when they don't.

Had the same troubles all my life. You have to understand that changing yourself isn't worth it. You can have all the friends you want if you want to drink, use drugs or act stupid.

There's usually not any bullying in college.
akai454 3 years ago
it's not quite true.
NadezhdaRozagy1 3 years ago
I hear ya, man. I'm an aspie (age 30) and I got picked on when I was a kid. I worked as a teacher and there were staff members who picked on me too (I bet you never kew teachers got picked on too). But I taught myself to smoke out the people who I couldn't trust and how to respond.
Once a 'school aid" tried to get me to lend him $25 and I wouldn't give it. He tried to verbally pressure me, but I didn't back down. Not only did I feel like I'd won, but this man showed his true (thuggish) self.
MondoBeno 3 years ago 3
Hey man, along with not understanding people too well, I had never known about this predatory thuggish behavior in some people until I moved to the ghetto. For my first four years here every one was always wanting me to give them rides places, use my phone, borrow money, they'd ask me for food and cigarettes. So after this time I learned about this behavior. I'm not saying that these people are bad, they just learned bad habits from their parents and piers. This is normal for them.
akai454 3 years ago
You're right. What this has to do with Aspergers is that we often have trouble standing up for ourselves. It's something we learn cognitively.
By the way, you say you moved to "the Ghetto". Why did you move there and where did you live before that?
MondoBeno 3 years ago
These people are called 'users'. I've been used a lot & I allowed it because after the years of being bullied & lonely, I wanted people to like me, i thought that's how you become friends - by helping people. But it's not friendship if they want to use you but never help you back. Even men sometimes used me in the past - people think that men are always nice to young pretty females. But something about me must've screamed 'different' to them because they didn't flirt but were aggressive
NadezhdaRozagy1 3 years ago
I had similar probs (I am or at least was an Aspie). I was bullied mercilessly, even physically attacked. Now, listen kid, most of those fellows who turned my life into hell back then, ended up in jails; all now have criminal record. Not kidding. When a childhood friend told me, I thought she's just tying to make me feel better. But then details started spilling, and they couldn't be possibly made up. The people who bully you will self-destruct. It's merely matter of time, beieve me.

I totally agree!! Great point!

bullies are scum and deserve to die. they make others feel like crap because they themselves are crap, human form of vermin. the type of bully i had was a big fuckin football player who thought his shit didn't stink cuz he could throw a football. Ignoring bullies just encourages them further. and the teachers either don't give a fuck or they can't do anything about it. if you're at the bottom, the only place left to go is to the top. there are many ways to fight back against a bully.
midwesternerforlife 3 years ago
Don't believe what the bullies say, they "feed" on making life hard for people who are not "normal". In my view a person is a person no matter whether he/she is tall/short/fat/thin/black/white/ugly/not ugly. A person is still a person no matter how they are.

It's a tough world, I mean most parents don't even care if people bully others, why can't they teach their kids to be more tolerant?
corymorrison1993 3 years ago
I can relate to this completely.
boredstudent 3 years ago
you're definitely not retarted.

Oh yes, and again, really great video!
corymorrison1993 3 years ago
You know, I also have Asperger's and have made a huge effort to be an NT on the outside. It's helped me make friends. The kid should lose weight like I did, lose the glasses, and get better clothes. And telling the teacher makes thing worse coz that means you're a rat. I'm gay and really have to make sure I'm not a femmie b/c that would have made things worse. My point is, Aspies should mitigate their ostracism and try to act normal. The NTs will help out. They have done it for me.
megamanxz1 3 years ago
I also have Aspergers. Life isn't as difficult for me as it used to be. But I do get verbally abused behind my back, which is unfortunate. I'd rather not know what these people are saying about me, which is good. People who bully AS people should have their asses kicked.
TwilightLink37 3 years ago 4
I use to get bullyed a lot, but then one day i went pycho and broke some guys nose, after that no one made fun of me.

People like to use your disability against you and thats wrong.

bless you. I think the teen years are the harshest for aspies, hellish for me. Hang in there, it will get better eventually!

God, bullies. They'll attack anyone who's different from them. Don't you just wish they'd all explode? Teachers are even worse. Beyond elementary school, they no longer care about the well-being of their students. They've got way too many students for that.
liberalsloveyou 3 years ago 2
I don't get how him having Aspergers has anything to do wih bullying. It sounds like he was bullied only for his weight.
NinjaAlchemist 3 years ago
There are two reasons:
1: "Normal" overweight kids are often capable of giving back a smart reply when they are teased with their weight. That's a good defense which helps prevent more attacks. AS kids can't do that.
2: From personal experience I know that AS kids are looked upon as outsiders. But the other kids can't explain why. So they just find something they can bully on - simply because they want to bully an outsider. In my case it was many things but often my farmboy background.

What a brave person
Good on you
I was bullied at school for what i thought was me having better things than the bully.. but i realise now it was because i was different from him
i have got a brilliant name for our so called disability from wendy lawson's brilliant book, "build your own life" and i qoute: our disability is not a disabilty.. it makes us different hence the name "diffability"
i have, since reading this marvellous book incorporated the word "diffability" into my every day speech

Teachers don't give a toss if someone gets bullied!!
Colhad 3 years ago 6

I hear you, man.
