  • the final part brings up a tear into me eye...

  • 1:27 BEST PART!

  • @thegmnk Ikr I can imagine an army of British Redcoats marching to that tune

  • Rule, Britannia!

  • Comment removed

  • The goose bumps pop up at 1:30 when the fifes strike up.

  • When the fife and drums kick in at 1:29 I can picture the ordered ranks of Redcoats advancing across the open field into firing range under their fluttering Union Jack standard, their captain with his sword held high, barking his commands as his well-drilled soldiers prep their muskets and unleash a storm of lead on their enemies.

  • I love the flutes. Flutes give such a feeling of hope against the odds! It's a brave sound

  • Good Queen Bess. My fav leader throughout all the Civ games!

  • This isn't "I Vow To Thee, My Country"...

  • Epic Dramatic Music? check.

    Alright, homework, bring it on!

  • you hear this in a movie scene where a british general walks through the door in the country's moment of need

  • "I do so love planning executions."--queen elizabeth I

  • Damn this one is good. I'm glad I played as English people :D

  • I heard this track in a game where England was the strongest military nation and it just so happens to be fighting America far away from its capital. I did an embark assault at London at the empty back end and this music came on - dangerous mission with dangerous music - this player was scared.

  • @eiffelTowerMan Well, England as a country didn't actually exist UNTIl the Norman had invaded, so I don't think that counts.

  • @Atvishees Naw, England had existed for a century or so beforehand. It was properly unified under King Athelstan about 927-ish AD and had remained more or less that way ever since. William of Normandy didn't create an English kingdom, he conquered one.

  • @Tolgron34

Just remember that it was the very last time England was invaded.

  • @MrLuizzuc successfully* :)

  • @MrLuizzuc So goes the national myth. Henry Tudor in 1485 and William of Orange in 1688 had some English support, but still essentially conquered the kingdom after invading with foreign armies.

  • @lordhoot1 I don't think Henry VII counts, since he was an English nobleman who won a civil war between feuding claimants to the English throne. It'd be like suggesting that General Washington conquered the 13 Colonies during the American Revolution. King William was, technically, invited by Parliament to replace James II after he became too Catholic and pro-French. That said, however, it was still technically an invasion, although it may be more accurate to think of it as a coup.

  • @Tolgron34 Henry was more Welsh than English, and you could argue William was a legitimate claimant in 1066. Nationality becomes a murky issue that far in the past I guess.

  • 3:19 onwards is especially amazing. They did a great job with the music in this game, but this track really stands out for me in particular.

  • definitely my favorite theme in Civ5

  • Stop arguing and enjoy some great music :)

  • Has England ever lost a war?

  • Comment removed

  • @TheCoolermaster24 Yes, England was defeated in the American Revolutionary War

  • @adreanvalerius oh yes I forgot xD but not like in the way that England was captured

  • @TheCoolermaster24 about 1000 years ago England was captured by the Normans

  • @adreanvalerius I think the British equaled it all out in 1812...

You know, setting fire to Washington and all...

  • @TheCoolermaster24 they also lost the 100 year war to france

  • @Plargallarg

thats aload of shit we beat napolean...

  • @BenTM01 no it was in the middle ages

  • @Plargallarg

well if you mean the normans then yes.

  • @BenTM01

Can't tell if trolling...Or just very stupid...

100 Years War was the 1300's-1400's. The Napoleonic conflict was around 1805-1815. Sad to be bested by an American isn't it?

  • @XxRokusasuxX

    ...cool story duuuuuuude

  • @Plargallarg when was that?

  • @TheCoolermaster24

    1815 with german help^^

  • @Tomaniahailhynkel oke nevermind xD

  • @TheCoolermaster24 WELL IM SINGAPOREAN AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED IN WWII?!

  • I'm considering buying Civ 5 just for the soundtrack. Not terribly impressed with the game itself, but the music seems pretty darn good.

  • Long live England!

  • I didn't find Civilization to be THAT epic, even though it's a far above average game... but the soundtrack! The creators of this are at the same level as any musical genius in our history!

  • Campy!

  • This is why I always play as the British, and I'm always at war.

  • @Datsyukfan123 its just England not Scotland or Wales :P Scotland is a city state however

  • Jeg håber at Det Britiske Verdensrige vil vare i tusind år

  • Civ 6 needs William the Conqueror. King John is just a total douche.

    (It also needs Hardrada)

  • @cyndassprites

    or Richard II

  • @MrStaxxy him too!

  • @cyndassprites

    Aaaaaw...

So much disrespect about your ancestors...

  • @MrStaxxy 'ancestors'?

  • @cyndassprites It should have more leaders in general.

  • Epic song, by far the best in the game.

  • Take my fleet of 'Ships of the line' and shove them up your ass.

  • I was part of the Honour Guard for my school on Remembrance Day, and they played I Vow to Thee, My Country. It is a good song.

  • epic

  • This song is epic. I especially like how they introduce the flute & rennaisance piano later on. Makes it feel soley british.

    Good Show, ol' chaps!

  • @yousaidthis You mean the harpsichord? :P

  • @Citylife10

i was thinking harpsichord, but on second thought, i thought it was another name for the harp. Thanks

  • as an american few can be as sad as i when confronted by the increasingly soured relations between us and britain, damn shame really.

sure our governments are still buddy buddy, but the people are seperated.

  • @fluffyzhangfei

There has actually been friction between the US/British government recently, most notably with the issues concerning BP and the Lockerbie bomber. As for the people and our soured relations we British are sick to death of going along with US policy and thankfully the new government seems has distanced itself from that. As for American people, I find you guys are not a bad bunch really. :-)

  • @GaryGarratt Tally-ho! Don't let our government push you guys around. I'm hoping Japan will also have the 'nads to stand up against our attempts at dictating policy to the rest of the world. As much as I love my country, I don't like how we're treating the rest of the world now. Should have just listened to Washington and the early presidents, and avoided conflicts outside our borders at all costs (I think you British could have kicked the Nazis ass without us quite well. ;-D)

  • @kirby28645 For some reason, I don't. But still, without the British we wouldn't be Americans.

  • This has the feel of the British Empire in it.

It should make you all bow in fear or in humbility.

  • best march song ever

  • This song is so BA!

  • Naval Advisor: "The Red Cross is ready to set sail once again en route to Jamestown. The pesky French under the fleur-de-lis and Napoleon have placed an embargo on all English goods. Should we sent our Galleons to raid Calais?"

Elizabeth: "Do so now. You may lead the attack. Now, I must attend to negotiating with Caesar. He is being unreasonable with his military alliance with Montezuma. Tenochtitlan lies directly on a maize resource we desperatly need. If I must destroy Rome, too, I shall!"

  • Pray to god you didnt build your civilization near a coast line when going to war with England.

  • @BaxterTM You know I wish you could raze coastal cities with onshore bombardment :( .... I would just Loooove to do that ! *( PS I'm playing Civ 4 Vanilla still :'( .. there England doesn't get that great )

  • @BaxterTM I always build my civ near the coast so i can fight them ;)

  • I purposely pick fights with Elizabeth just to hear this song.

  • Calling this civ England is like calling the usa the 13 colonies. It should be Great Britain.

  • @ADMERALSMITH Well, in those days, Great Britain didn't exist, IIRC. It was just those countries. Since you're playing as Elizabeth, who ruled over England and England only, it's fitting that the nation be called England rather than Great Britain or the UK.

Now if the leader was, say, Winston Churchill, then that's a good reason to call the nation Great Britain. You have to take the time periods into consideration here. :)

  • @AngelicWaffle Maybe, if their bonus wasnt 'Sun Never Sets' which was an attribute of the British Empire, not the English.

  • Don't screw with England!!

  • too bad it gets interrupted by some other civ talking to you before this song is finished.

  • I remember when I first got a domination victory, and this song played. I stared at the GAME OVER screen for ten minutes as the song looped, and I felt like God.

  • I've fallen in love with this song. It alone has made me want to buy the game.

Although, I wonder how many Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish have looked through these comments and become annoyed by everyone referring to England as Britain.

  • @LordSturm I'm N.Irish and i don't mind :P

  • @LordSturm I actually think they would prefer a British Civilization than a purely English one though I think I can see your point.

  • this is the most epic war song in the entire game.... in my opinion :D

  • THE REDCOATS ARE COMING!! THE REDCOATS ARE COMING!!!!

  • THE ENGLISH ARE COMING, AND THEY'RE BRINGING DRUMMER BOYS!!

  • When I get this game, and hopefully a Laptop. :D First person im gonna pick is Elizabeth. Dont care wat her advatages or disavantages are, im picking her. (not only because she is awsome but also because the lack of her rival, Spain). And then the next game ill play as George Washington and make a better america, and this time we wont have an economic resession.

  • It gets good at 1:29. It gets GREAT at 1:53. When all the counterpoints get a harmony at 2:06, maximum awesomeness is reached. And then the choir kicks in at 2:22, and your head explodes!

... and we still haven't reached the crescendo yet!

  • @SirViette Agreed! This song is quite fantastic all the way through! Best part would be when the harpsichord kicks in at 3:41.

The British are coming! The British are coming!

AND THEY'RE BRINGING A BLOODY HARPSICHORD IN TOW!

  • I love this music :)

  • I conquered the English quickly but those dam Americans are hell, but it matters who u attack first not the country

  • I Bloody love England/Britain (being English) but this just makes me love it more!

  • Your going to get it now Nobunga, you just had to keep pushing and pushing AND PUSHING! Say hello to my longbowmen mwhahahahaha! SUCK IT DOWN!

  • This is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard in a video game. Absolutely fantastic.

  • they did an AWESOME job ob this game. the dialog, as well as the music makes every action you take in the game feel like an amazing undertaking. It's a beautiful mix of Heroizm, Conquest and Responcibility. i would love to meet the person who orchestrated the music for this game. they're a friggen genius!

  • This song was used with the trailer!!!
