Hi Evolving2Change. I spoke to Mr. Bradbury, and he was not insulted. You could argue that his work belongs in dystopian fiction, fantasy fiction, horror fiction, etc. I agree that his work belongs under the umbrella of speculative fiction, which includes sci- fi. However, the mainstream would recognize him as a sci-fi author. For the sake of broadcast journalism, words to describe his literary works must be succinct and understood by the majority. Why the fuck do people keep referring to Ray Bradbury as a science fiction author. It's a tremendous insult to him and his writings which have spanned across different genres. Fahrenheit 451 as far as I can tell was his only book that dealt with science fiction. The rest we're speculative fiction which your average joe or jane would mistake for something other.
Ray is a fantasy writer. Nothing more, nothing less. Yet, science loves him... he knows something we don't...
