Every now and again I have to return to watch and listen to this masterpiece. It's compelling. Visually and musically perfect. Four and a half minutes of sheer bliss.
If ever there was a Youtube video that embodied Sehnsucht, this would have to be it. "An inconsolable longing for I know not what". It's not sadness, it is wrenching beauty that overwhelms the circuitry of my body and leaves me in tears. I rarely comment on videos... this one is beyond worthy.
A film about the unspeakable truth...made in Russia (at that time U.S.S.R.) during the censurship of communism. One of great masterpiece of cinema. The film begins significant with a stuttering boy...
Wanted to let you all know that I've put my film "Meeting Andrei Tarkovsky" onto Amazon. Please consider ordering a copy (only 300 Limited Edition DVD's were made). Every single sale is a huge help to the project!
Tear inducing. Whenever the trivial day to day of existence gets me down, I should watch this as a reminder of just how much conquering beauty there is. Thanks.
If Tarkovsky was born a few thousand years ago, he would have been a prophet; 400 years earlier ago, he would have been a master Baroque painter; and the Tarkovsky we know was a mystic image-maker of the highest order. I wonder if we will have a Second Coming and what will THAT Tarkovsky be manifested as?
Carlo giove
My second time commenting on this video and probably my 100th time watching it. This video needs to be circulated to every single follower of Tarkovsky and the notion of the Image.
Qualcuno potrà trovare i suoi film noiosi. La realtà è che si tratta di sogni senza un tempo di scorrimento.
I heard this for the first time in the car the other day, and was really stunned by how beatiful it is. There's so much depth and emotion with such minimal music. Really breathtaking. It really seems to convey a story somehow, loss and hope maybe. Stunning.
I really really love this. I was reading in bed one night listening to the classical station and the moment this song came on I just had to put my book down. It was just one of those songs I felt had to be fully appreciated without any distractions. It sounds a bit cheesy but I closed my eyes and it made me feel so many emotions at once. Mainly sad. But it was just so beautiful. To be honest the word Beautiful doesn't seem to do it justice. It's a wonderful work of art.
Nothing cheesy about it, if you ask me. I had a similar experience. Whatever your religious inclination, Pärt's music touches the soul and feeds something that's been left hungry in our shallow, commercialized world of thrills and sensual delights...the hunger for beauty, for purity, for truth..."truth" not as doctrine, but as life, as experience, as existence itself.
These are the sounds and sights of my very inner landscapes - being estonian (as Arvo Pärt is) and growing up with russian films and amidst russian souls it all connects when hearing and seeing this piece of art....
This is so beautiful! When I first saw this film, I felt that I understood it intuitively, but I wasn't quite sure. Then I watched it again, and it was clear, and I had tears streaming down my face by the end of it. This is without a doubt my favorite film.
Thank you for this sublimely beautiful pairing of two great artists! :-)
What a wonderful video you've made, and what a perfect choice.
You have made these scenes sing in their very own silence.
