  • Have you seen the new 700 Series Roombaz?? U can program it whilst you're out to do all its dirty work! Lets face it - Robots rock

  • C3PO's cousin!

  • شي جيد تريح ربة البيت تشغلها وتتركها وتخلص لها شغله ثانيه بدل الارتباط بالكنس

  • its very noisy!

  • stestowałem roombe na chacie, rewelka :) lepsze jest odkurzanie "ręczne" no ale jak ktos wychodzi z domu to moze zostawic roombe wlaczona i on(a) sama posprzata i sie doładuje po drodze :)

  • "You can see we made a mess here on the floor"

  • I have one these! Complete junk!

  • wayy fuggin loud

  • It's kinda neat, but very noisey

  • المكنسه العاديه افضل.. تتاخر على ما تخلص كنس..

  • does it come with a mute or volume setting?

  • nothing specjal

  • now we know, how corn circles are made. Wild lifing Roombas

  • I think you are verry cute!

  • Next, someone should rig a kirby to a controller and give it steering capabilities. It would work GREAT!

  • @mattsprinter i've seen someone steering a Roomba with a Wiimote, just like an ordinary Vac-Cleaner.

  • @smellcaster No, I meant a KIRBY; one of those heavy upright models (EX: Generation 4). Since they have so much suction, it would work great if it could be rigged to a controller. PS, I also saw someone mod a roomba with both a Wii and ps2 wireless controller.

  • also if it dose a bad job cleaning my floor i dump out everything it picked up and make it do it agin til it gets it right

  • @Mrw0fflez like an asian parent?? :P

  • @Mrw0fflez Seems like cleaning the Floor was the second Purpose. It can carry about 5 Kg or more so i think it's more a Toy for the Cat.

  • why has no one made a maze for one of these yet, it culd be like a rat maze only the reward for finnishing is a pile of dirt :D

  • @Mrw0fflez What a great idea! I think that's an excellent idea for our next video! Maybe we can have two robotic vacuums side by side and see which finishes first.

  • @GoVacuums wow fast to comment and thanks p.s. im useing it now lol

  • I Roomba.

  • this guys a fucking idiot.

  • theres still crack stans still there omg lol jk

  • Could the company of iRobot Roomba explain to me why my roomba killed it self..? & it was only 2 months old -_- I've replaced it with a Samsung Navibot that hasnt killed it self yet.

  • @GayBoyRunning I would definitely raise that concern with irobot, they shouldn't die at 2 months, and they have 2 year warranties behind them. This Samsung Navibot, I'm unfamiliar with, if you could post a video or picture of this I would really appreciate that, I'd like to check out this machine.

  • @GoVacuums well the best Robotic Vacuum that i know that would be a Neato robotic vacuum.

  • this guys a fucking idiot BOOM.

  • Lol, wall socket on stairs? GENIUS!

  • wats it like on pethair?

  • I tried doing this with mine as well, I sprinkled kitty litter all over the tiled kitchen floor. It's not a good test because the roomba constantly goes into spot mode so it doesn't demonstrate how it normally works very well. The roomba certainly isn't designed to clean up big spills automatically, like the kids emptying a pack of crisps out (use the remote). But it certainly does a good job of all the day to day fluff, cat hair, bits of paper and so on.

  • hi_Àný_gUys_wâNt_tó_chãt_wÍth_mE

  • is a new and improved series of these vacuums coming out? if so when, this does seem pretty cool and i would like to buy one

  • you dont need nikkers anymore

use the irobot it cleans your house in no time!!

shoot your nikker to the ground and buy now!

  • Can you guys wait for the Roomba 700 to come out and make a video of that? Thanks!

  • wow, that was louder than I was expecting

  • if my cat will sit on it or do something stupid to it,i will buy it

  • @muffinz1005 I saw that video of someone's cat riding round on theirs like a Darlek. The first time I switched ours on, the cats ran for the hills and were watching it from up the stairs, where they'd worked out it couldn't go. Over the months, they've gradually started getting closer to it. But they still don't like going too close to it. The simplest and cheapest upgrade to the roomba I would like would be to set multiple cleans per day, so it can recharge and go again while I'm away

  • at 3:03 a freaking battery falls out of it lmao!

  • @matt12red look at 02:20 battery on the stairs

  • @plasmafire11 ahh i see

  • It works by stomping on it, if youre in the mario universe :3

  • my parents had one of teh earlier generations of the Roomba, and just by watching this video I can tell theres been a lot of logistical improvments... the old roombas just sort of drove around randomly and you hoped it would cover the whole room.

  • Yeah..its not like you could go buy a vacuum for half the price and do it yourself. That would be crazy.

  • I was so bored today I actually watched this entire video. FML

  • So I see you made a mess on the floor there.....

  • Honestly.. I don't think it did a very good job. Notice when it was on the stairs it missed the paper clip thing on the left side of the stair. Also on the right side of the stair there was a white speck of dirt near the crack that the side brush, even after going over it more than twice.

As for the floor it did an okay job. It is neat it doesn't fall off the stairs but I just don't see myself spending that amount of money for a very miniature vacuum that doesn't do a good job. Is cool though.

  • @thatoneguyyep101 Hello, thanks for your comment on our govacuum video series. I'd like to just point out that this model is Roomba's first series, the Discovery series. I hope we can do a second video showing the improved capabilities of the new Roomba 500 series models, which do a much better job at picking up, and are much quieter. It's not really meant to be a full size vac but rather meant for in between normal vacuuming. Please subscribe and watch for a new Roomba 500 series video.

  • @thatoneguyyep101 This video was made in 2008 its now 2011 OF COURSE WE HAVE BETTER ONES NOW

  • @thatoneguyyep101 but it does all that stuff and you dont have too..thats the point

  • The strength in the roombas ability to clean a room is in the number of times it passes through the area. You don't really get that off this demo. Turn in on and leave it be and it will spend at least a half hour bumping back and forth through the room. It gets the worst of the mess.

  • The right question should be:

    Will it blend?

  • @iTube4ux DAMMIT I WAS GONNA SAY THAT!

  • Looks to me like these kind of vacuums don't do a very good job. They still leave a lot of dirt left behind.

  • Um, how OLD is the Roomba in this video? Their site doesn't even carry this model anymore. Sorry, but it makes this demo looks about as current as a 2002 iPod commercial. I have a 560(?) model with the scheduler, which I bought a year or two ago and it works fine for me.

  • @geezerbill Hello, this is the Roomba Discovery series model, their first series. Their newest model, the 500 series is the second generation models, and have greatly enhanced cleaning abilities, and are better then the one shown. Please subscribe and watch for a new Roomba video showing the 500 series! Thanks for your support.

  • @GoVacuums No contest for a full size Hoover like mine. I picked up a Roomba a few months ago on approval. I vacuumed two carpets about the same amount of dirt and debris. First the Roomba, followed by my Hoover with a fresh bag back to back. Then the other carpet, first the Hoover with a fresh bag and then the Roomba. On the first test, the Hoover picked up a lot more dirt after the Roomba did its thing. On the next, the Roomba hardly picked up a thing. Battery vs 120 volts = no contest

  • roomba SE : 85dB.

    Normal Vac: 140dB

    1:0 for roomba :)

  • Vacuums suck!

  • @moocowman101 Yes, yes they do indeed. :-)

  • The Roomba is pretty awesome and is a good investment. It is not overpriced, trust me. The robot is well designed. Purchase it with the charging dock, the are designed to work together.

  • Comment removed

  • That's reaaally loud.

  • this is not a very good representation of roomba as that is like a 3 generation old legacy model... you should update with a modern 500 series that has scheduling capability.

  • Is there a Roomba that will automatically go to a special recharge station when the battery is low then continue cleaning and repeat?

  • @Microsoftultimatefan There is a Roomba self docking station that fits all current models so when the Roomba battery is low, it will go and dock automatically. However, it will not exit the docking station and continue to vacuum once it is fully charged. It will be ready to go when you return.

  • Is there a Roomba where you put chemicals or something in it and it will spray the chemicals?

  • @Microsoftultimatefan There is an iRobot Scooba Floor Washing Robot which cleans and mops the floors. It uses a special cleaning solution made by Roomba, it's called iRobot Roomba Cleaning Solution for Scooba 5900

  • @youuui care explaining why it sucks ?

  • @turgore He's probably a troll.

  • When are we gonna see a roomba that mows lawns? That would be great! Or a zamboni roomba

  • @thefamilyk Haha, a Zamboni Roomba, that's awesome! I would love to see that one! After visiting the ISSA Commercial trade show, I did see a full sized commerical robotic vacuum cleaner which had a similar appearance as a zamboni does, and costs nearly the same price as a new car! Thanks for watching.

  • It isn't going in a circle to map the room. It's going in a circle because you put so much crap on the floor that it went into spot mode.

  • missed a spot

  • i think its going in circle because dirt detect is on...and after it goes off it will pick up the rest...

  • I have thaught about getting one of these for years my only concenr was the noise and the video just shows why I have not gotten one yet

  • @dtrek0129 I had one and it wasn't too loud.

  • I've go a Sanyo vacuum there pretty good. scary to say it hasnt died yet. Due my house of night mars . my house has killed a DYson plus a sebo & 2 rainbow vacumms =S

  • That didn't even answer the question. You stopped before we could see if it would actually get the entire room instead of aimlessly vacuuming around and missing a bunch of spots. Which I'm guessing it would.

  • let it run it full cycle it does the hole floor 3 times. This all i had for 7 years and it worked great. if ever you unsatisfied send it too work again. 1000 time better then a normal Vacuum. Why cause i sitting back relaxing wile it works. even the best other brands your still the Goof pushing it around.

  • it does not really clean well, maybe of all the dirt

  • i kind of miss the sound of my roomba bouncing off the walls lol

  • Could I use 2 or 3 at once? :D

  • them things are like blind i have one and it goes pang hit the will big ass crash it knocked over my big stack of boxes because i was moving into another house

  • 1 the room would never be that dirty

2 roomba 530 clans the room 4-6 times on a average daily clean

  • A: a room would never be that dirty

B: roomba 530 cleans the room 4 times be for returning

  • A: a room would never be that dirty

B: roomba 530 cleans the ro 4 times be for returning

  • i liked my roomba...until my grandma broke it lol helps to keep up with shedding dogs!

  • what happen when its full? change some sort of paper bag inside? like a normal vaccuum?

  • Thats some loud shit

  • @MidnitetMbK it was super loud! the one i had was silent... idk what kind this is, but its annoying lol

  • I have a question about coins, paper clips, I mean would the roomba know not to pick that up? Could you program it to watch out for that? Or if they did pick them up, does it break it?

  • @Shimmerkitty Hi There. To answer your question, no the Roomba is not programmed to avoid picking up metal objects, however there has been an after-market solution to this, and that is by attaching a very powerful magnet to the front of the Roomba, similar to the ones that are attached to commercial vacuum cleaners.

  • @Shimmerkitty Hi There. Actually the Roomba doesn't have the capability to prevent metal objects from being vacuumed up out of the box unfortunately. Something as small as a paper clip probably wouldn't damage the roomba, but could end up getting stuck inside. Larger items should be picked up in advance of running the Roomba for best results.

You could install a magnet bumper to the front of the roomba that would trap any metalic object from being vacuumed up, they are widely available.

  • @GoVacuums you should suggest a powerful electro magnet or just magnet with seperate batteries if electric, so it would pickup objects like paperclips or add a metal detector like thing.

  • @john55223 Haha, you know what's funny is that I did mention a magnet. like this, but I couldn't seem to get under the maximum amount of characters allowed, haha.

This is a GREAT idea, and yes, this would absolutely work for preventing Roomba from vacuuming up anything metal. Thanks for the suggestion, you should patent that idea!

  • @GoVacuums Yeah, I love that idea, you should patent that idea for sure...

We are looking for venture capital to make big prime money together.

  • now when would my house be THAT messy........ even WITH cosmo

  • Sure, use an in door roomba for what is essentially, out door levels of debris. Why didn't you use the dirt dog version?

  • @pnkssbtz You know, that is actually a great idea. The Dirt Dog is much more durable model that would be more equipped for this type of cleaning. Honestly this video originated from me being bored while working in our retail store which we only had this discovery model on the floor. I just wanted to see how well it would do on a huge nasty mess, and well....we found out! No, but you're right the Dirt Dog would have been better for this.

  • u sell vacuumes

  • Mine does a great job on hard floors and carpet. Just let it start and then go out.

  • still makes a friggin racket though they should invent a vacuum that doesnt make a noise

  • 2:46 lmao

  • thats a waste of cocaine on the floor lol

  • is there a bag less or remote control version?

  • Which model/year is this roomba?

  • This is the Discovery Model from a few years ago. I'm not too sure when the date of this model came out. It was the model right before the current 500 series.

  • So it's entirely possible the latest Roomba can do a better job then this one? Could you do a review?

  • wow just get a regualr vacuum im sure its half the price and its not that hard to vacuum unless your fat and lazy

  • I'ts not about being fat and lazy, sometimes people have disabilities that prevent them from doing vigourous work every single day especially if you have pets.

It's also good if you are going out for the day you set the vacuum to clean.

  • The parts are pretty easy to replace. It works well as a sweeper if you are willing to clean it every time. DO NOT replace your normal vacuume with a roomba.

  • @cferinga1 why not?

  • The vacuume is not strong, the vacuume bin's filters, cloggs up with dust very quickly, use it only for a convenient sweeper on hard surfaces.

  • I see, thanks.

  • it does the room around about three times and it it better on carpet

  • i use mine. when he first put it on spot mode it did a great job, but if you leave the unit to finish it will get the rest on a second pass

  • all it did was smudge the dirt

  • @MrExprise If you were paying attention, that "dirt" as you called it seemed more like powdered sugar to me. And even a regular vacuum with only one pass won't do a very good job of picking that up.

  • lol people saying its loud, regular vacuums are loud

  • @cheesyfojeezy Regular vacumes are also louder.

  • Wow, that thing is loud.

  • i loved when Roomba made an appearance on Flipping Out with Jeff Lewis and Zoila got jealous of Roomba. hahaha

  • This looks like a waste of money

  • It will get stuck on things. The gearing will get full of hair and malfunction. Buy the shop sweeper to sweep up pet hair, don't count on any vacuuming function. Hair completely clogs up the filter if you use the vacuuming dust bin.

  • they have a shop sweeper that can pick up bolts smart one

  • I have this Roomba Discovery too! Question: I need to replace my side brush but the only one I found on ebay are for the 500 series. Will they still work?

  • wow

  • I love my roomba, I use it four times a week, saves time because it is programed to stop and finish. Closes thing I i will ever have to a maid.

  • its definatly more of a sweeper, my grandma had one of these, did fairly well, but she had one of the first generations, so you had to manually charge battery

  • Oh and it is a pain to clean up brushes, I Now take off brushes when I post roomba trials

  • is it as noisy as it says it is?

  • No, and I should know, I have my own

  • I don't know, I like roombas, which is why I have my own, but sometimes I want more. I post roomba trials.

  • i have 3 i love em. They need TLC quite a bit but still great and i cant do without them now. even better is that once the warranty is up all of the parts are fairly easy to replace.

    go Irobot!

  • I find those things pretty cool. I had a robotic class during the summer and we learned all about different sensors and stuff, so yeah pretty cool little robot.....lol I think its cute ^^

  • By any chance was the robotics class a Mechatronics Institute?

  • sadly not. A 3 week course at UC Stansislaus, it was a woman program called PWMR

  • Ah okay, I was asking because in california at the Allan Hancock Community College, I assisted as a student facilitator for two years for a week long Mechatronics Institute for Highschool Juniors, Seniors and entering college freshmen.

  • What do you need to prepare for mechatronics? i bet physics?

  • I would think the education contains what you need but it will entail mechanics of course, like understanding torque, statics like triangle structures being strong, material science like tensile strength, fragility, friction wear, electronics, motor theory, power electronics to run the motors (FET and IGBT transistors) and the low voltage digital control electronics.

it's not too hard but there are many details to learn

  • Pretty much it's a mechanical engineering degree or Electrical. I'm a ME and do some robotics. Probably a good master's degree.

  • First of all i find it a unfair "review".

Roomba really is a cleaning by repetition vacuum cleaner.

A normal Roomba owner such as myself have it setup to clean 2-3 times a week. And it does it wonderfully. i have a very advanced layout of my apt. And use 4 lighthouses. And have 20mm high door thresholds inbetween rooms.

If you drop HUGE flower pot on the floor, you dont send in the roomba. you get a broom and scoop up the worst then send in the roomba.

  • After seeing this, I just came up with a script for a movie:

In the near future, robots have become so advanced, they wage war against mankind. But then the resistance movement sends one soldier back through time to prevent the machines from ever becoming that advanced...

Could such a movie become a success??

    ;p

  • ooh, i can add to your story:

then a android man comes after him to try to kill him and stop that from happening.

  • hmm im not sure... I think I saw sumtin like this on Terminator! :-P lol

  • he said unit

  • that thing sucked

  • Yes, exactly what a vacuum should do, suck! lol.

  • @jw2113 Badum psssh

  • @jw2113 HA! funny pun

  • Thanks for posting this. My grandmother is getting very immobile and we have been doing everything to help. We got her a carpet flick, and that helped a lot, but now she is having a hard time with that. This might be an answer.

  • it seems like it's a bit loud and not as efficient

i have an oreck XL and it's really powerful yet lightweight so it's sinch to hammer through literally 3 minutes.. it's just not that much of a time saver..

also my collie would destroy it (in roomba's defense he hate my oreck two, but this roomba will be alone, and thus defenseless)

i'd like to see a carpet cleaning type of roomba.. b/c there you are saving people time scrubbing, spraying, etc

i'd let one of those go for a few hrs.

  • let me just clarify.. rug washing, not vacuuming.. in case that had to be made clear. Like you can mark the stains with something and then the thing will know which spots need more.. omg i'm a genius..

  • How lazy have we become?! Neat technology I suppose, but leave it in the labratory! You could use a regular vacuum and do it in seconds...or even a broom!! What a worthless piece of junk...get off your butt and do it yourself!! :-)

  • DeputyRambo; as lazy as it seems, that's where it comes in handy for people who are not as physically able as you and I. The elderly or handicapped.

  • lol agreed, my grandma would of loved this since she is sort of paralyzed form the waist down ^^

  • it's more like a pet to me. you know one of those I-Dogs, except this thing does something useful like cleaning and providing entertainment for the dog and the cat.

  • There isn't a "room map" inside the Roomba -- it has a "wall following" pattern, but it constantly changes its angle so that the pattern of bouncing around in a room is random. It may not get every spot this time, but that's random.

My in-laws have a Roomba -- they get it out of the closet, charge the battery, watch it run, and put it away.

Ours is set on a schedule, so it runs daily, docks and recharges. I empty the dustbin daily and clean the brushes weekly. My HVAC filters 100% longer now.

  • i'd like to know that too...

  • Hi, does it know how big the area it's vacuuming is, and stop automaticly when it's clean? Thanks.

  • It circles out from the center of the room until it hits a wall. Then it'll follow the walls until it figures out how big the room is. It stops either when its been over the entire room a few times or when it runs out of charge(on my model it'll continue vacuuming for 45 minutes or so). It also slows down and "spot cleans" throughout the process when it finds a spot that's particularly messy.

  • Thanks for the answer, I actually went ahead and bought Roomba 560 already and it's great! Although this one doesn't follow the walls when it starts, rather it calculates the room by the longest distance it can travel withouth bumping into anything.

  • @SteamFox does it replace a vaccum? or do I have to invest in both?

  • No. You will still need a vacuum for places where Roomba can't get. But since I bought Roomba, I only need to use the regular vacuum once per month and it doesn't take much time.
