Going on a road trip in one of these is literally my dream; I want to find one in my area so badly but in this area, where there are dirt roads and one-lane bridges, they are not quite practical.
The VW bus was the greatest thing on the road, and the finest example of it was the Vanagon Waterboxer 4WD made in the 80's. It was water cooled and 4WD. The only van to beat it was the Toyota Previa in the 90's: 4WD and supercharged.
This mighty fine bus sold not long ago. I do get a nice bus in from time to time so keep an eye out. Check out the full photo and video shoot in the description in the mean time.
@BootyClapn They sell at auction for 6 figures sometimes. Some modified, some not. If it were me I'd take the extra horsepower. I imagine that 1600cc dual port would be sufficient but an 1835cc sounds better at least in my mind.
I'm not sure what an unrestored 21 Window goes for. They are almost impossible to find, which is why I was trying to buy one 25 years ago when I was 19 back when they were still $4k.
What a beauty...bright as the sun & open to the sun. Love the beltline chrome. I know the winner of this on eBay last week got a pretty good deal...I'd sure like a kombi camper version with the tent!
