For those who don't know, Howard, the beefy guy in the very last segment, is Robert Smith, the Ohio State/Minnesota Vikings running back. I think he and Leonard Maltin are the only celebrity guests to ever appear on mst.
@tripoli911 - Oh wow, I didn't recognize him without all his trademark makeup and a guitar slung around his neck. He also looks a lot *happier* than his lyrics would suggest...
@tlrledbetter -I think every writer as well as every human should hate Adam Sandler equally -but for the purposes of your question, I know Mike REALLY hates him. ( If you read his books you'll see that.) I also heard that Trace actually ran screaming from the theater after attempting to watch Billy Madison. (but Trace wasn't a writer for the show at this point.)
@trapadoored He made some funny stuff before, so I don't hate him. That's right, I said it. Still, I'll never look at Mike the same way again and Trace's apparent (over)reaction was just sad. Sorry, but that's just how I feel. I admit that my taste in comedy and comedians is part of the minority... But I still have enough taste to enjoy this show, don't I?
(BTW, I don't even believe in "taste." I'm just speaking everyone else's language.
- I wouldn't worry about your taste in comedy being in the "minority" -if you are a fan of Adam Sandler who is one of the most popular and overpaid comedic performers of the last two decades. The fact that mst3k folk dislike Sandler actually puts them in a decidedly miniscule and sadly non-vocal extreme minority. But I'm sure glad someone else hates him besides me. That being said, I did like the wedding singer. But only because Billy Idol was in it.
@tlrledbetter -and how do you not believe in "taste"? That would be like not believing in "farting "or not believing in "baseball." It's just there. Sure, if you like mst3k and Adam Sandler your tatse may be "eclectic"-but it's still a taste. It's not like having "taste" is some hipster thing, like smoking tiny cigarrettes and quoting Kerouac or something.
@trapadoored Farts and baseball are physical things and comparing them with the concept of taste is just silly. Taste, at least when it comes to tastes in entertainment, is based on opinion. Everyone's opinion is different when it comes to something trivial like entertainment, so no one can pin down a real "good" taste.
That being said, anyone who actually likes the movies featured in this show are likely not to have any taste. Even I have limits.

@hunterd557 The nerd-funniest part about that skit was that some people actually did the math and figured out that it would take Crow about that long to fall one mile given Earthlike gravity. I wonder if the writers actually worked it out beforehand?
@TheRogueWolf Man, I laughed so hard that I literally had to pause the film. It definitely set the humor tone for the rest of the show. I love MST3K! It's awesome to see more fans and a repository such as this on YT.

Universal, I admire the spirit of trying to give weight to your crappy monster story by having a professor talk about its literary underpinnings, but try to at least pretend you did any actual research.
@EmilyDNelson Actually they got it wrong on TWO account. 1. The flood was real, but no where near that location. The original event had been told by a Surviving Local Sumarian King who had survived a massive flood in the area. The king "Cunningly" "Confiscated" a local merchant ship, and went with the flow until he hit land. Then he made an animal sacrifice and thanked the gods. That was it... Infact, Atlantis is theorized to be just Venice if it were hit by a Tsunami. Nothing Magical.
@EmilyDNelson Well, movie archaeology loves simple statements. "Oral folk histories about early man reacting to changing water levels and the beginnings of animal husbandry could have been exagerrated in such a way as to support some sort of historical precedent for later legends of major floods." doesn't sound quite as snappy as "Archaeology says Noah was real."
@LaLongeCarbine - haha, thanks for that comment. These are indeed transfers from original VHS tapes I made when the shows originally aired. I hope you also enjoy the odd 90s-era commercials I accidentally left in here and there.
@LaLongeCarbine I love it! It's almost nostalgic for me. That and the little beeping pattern when I used to hit play. Boop! beebeebeebeep- booboobeep!
I know "Lost Continent" was six seasons and two cable channels removed from this episode, but I still wish Tom and Crow had exchanged words about "Rock Climbing" at least one time...
@nativepoint14 I don't think they have anything against it. It's just a major pop culture touchstone for the 1970s, and also a convenient reference for them to make regarding things that may or may not be alive.
Odd little fact, Robin Huges (the guy who played the head in The thing that Couldn't Die) was the 'First Officer' of the albinos. You know the lead guy with the spike helmet that speaks to them at 58:22 .
"Every time I think of how many civilizations have crumbled, fallen apart, rotted from the inside, or cracked from the outside I shudder when I pick up the front page of the newspaper."
-Wonderful use of speakingness. What I think he _meant_ to say was "Whenever I pick up the newspaper I can't help but think of how many civilization have crumbled, [etc.]."
BTW, check out Simpsons episode 1106 for a scene from "The Mole People" (with Mole Man of course).
