You could but a dispenser with arrows in it and a pressure plate in the murder hole so when the mob falls in it lands on the plate and it gets shot with arrows

Make it 2 wide with the "Lip" inwards, would give a wider defense in endermen, Look better i suppose, and easier to fight on (compared to 1 wide.)

well make a trench round the hole of your house

make a ditch around the whole perimeter (except the door of course) 3 deep and 2 wide (so spiders can get in) then let morning come and let the zombies burn, and shoot the creepers and spiders and you are protected from everything but endermans. hope this helps =)

has anyone had problems with using this defence system in multiplayer? For some reason when I or any of the others on the server try to attack a mob in a murder hole with a sword it doesn't work, though a bow works fine. Some one help!

when I was digging murder holes I found caverns and explored them and got redstone, lapis lazli, gold, and a monster spawner (but the game was in peaceful mode so I was safe) and in the cavern that the monster spawner was in I found 2 treasure chests with string, iron, and best of all cocoa beans!

The reason why you need a 1 wide overhand is because fences are no longer a full block, so the spiders get stuck on the effectively 0.5 block overhang created by the difference of the fence and slab collision boxes.

hey, spiders take up a space of 2 by 1. Dont they. i cant remember. but anyways, so u only have a one block space, make it 2 by 1. and down in your tunnles, put half blocks where u see thier feet so they cant see or attack you. it works with all enemies. well, i dont actually own a copy of minecraft but i've played it before, and according to my mind that can picture tons of thing esily, this works.

I like the idea of a murder hole. I didn't know if I built something like your walls up there that I could keep spiders out. I rarely play with the monsters on, but I want to keep everything safe when I do. Your videos are really helpful.

paul needs to know that now, fences dont count as full blocks, they count kind of like half blocks. so the spider goes inwards toward the fences a little, meaning that there is some bit of block directly above the spider meaning that he cant go up! (not a glitch :)

The reason your supposed to use a pick on the slabs is because originally there was only stone slabs and you used a pick. The game uses the same data value for all slabs so therefor all slabs are destroyed by the same thing.

@nathexproductions Also, back in the beta days the fences counted as the whole block so you wouldn't be able to walk close to it like you can now. Because of this spiders could climb over it and thats why he made the spider helmet 2 wide.
