I think in About Face he tried too hard not to sound like Floyd. Even at the expense of not allowing his playing to be the leading part of most of the tracks. He forgot that was what most people were looking for.

pink floyd IS Syd Barrett and Rick Wright.

Both were some of the greatest musicians...

Rick at keyboard, syd at innovating, spirit, composing, and he was pretty good with the guitar (crazy effects at piper at the gates of dawn, anyone?)

hmm... what about gilmour? Rick, yes, totaly right. But Syd only were in the band at the first three years. Gilmour formed their music with bluesy and psychedelic guitar sticks and solos, and i think that's what really made pink floyds special sound together with wright.

honastly i think pink floyd was more or syd rick and roger. don get me wrong i think gilmour is one of the greatest guitarists there is he has a way to just make that guitar sing. but i would much rather listen to rogers stuff over gilmours,

@PrZemek44 first, i find your writing a bit hard to understand, second, roger could make a nice ground to a 3 chord song, but that's about the most of his musical skills. Without Wrights and Gilmours influenses pink floyd would have sounded like another brick in the wall over and over again. Even his masterpiece the wall would have sounded pretty crappy without gilmour (wrights influences was totally gone at this stage, and that's probably why the wall never will be as good as good old floyd)
