Nice charge. Have you noticed any issues with mixing ammonium nitrate and powdered magnesium? The oxide layer that forms on Mg isn't passive like that of Al, so I would expect such a composition to become dangerously sensitive in the presence of any moisture, and we all know that AN is very hygroscopic.
@CanadianPyro1 Thanks... No I haven't. This is the first time I mixed Mg into AN, and I made it the night before I used it, and there was no indication of any reaction, but that doesn't mean there wasn't one. Potassium dichromate would passivate the Mg effectively, Although I've never tried it.
@dawson01912 I assume that you know when I said "AP", I Meant Ammonium perchlorate, Not Acetone peroxide. You do know, I don't just throw the stuff together without testing it first!
No I don't know that. Perchlorate booster....maybe that's why it look s like ammonal didin't do anything. Just 1g TATP by itself would have a better chance of setting off ammonal than 20g of flash powder.
@dawson01912 Well, the ammonal detonated just fine actually. And the perchlorate booster is more sensitive than the ammonal! next time though, I'll put the blasting cap in the ammonal.
@dawson01912 He's referring to an ammonium perchlorate/aluminum composition. Unlike alkali perchlorates, AP is capable of detonation and is actually more sensitive and powerful than AN based Ammonal. But I agree, straight AN/Al doesn't need a booster at all.

@CanadianPyro1 это не является проблемой если хранить состав герметично и в холодильнике))

@unclefesterscrew1 It was probably a piece of rock! Thank you.

You are not paying AP the respect it deserves. AP with Al and S? 20g? Not smart.

That makes a ton more sense. Save you the time.
