  • i have a question, i love gretsch's and i want a 5122, however i am not a big rockabilly guy, i do have fun playing it but i am a huge blues man, would this guitar be for me, or do you think maybe an epiphone casino would be better?

  • @ubacam I own a 5120 and a casino and in all aspects i would say the gretsch tops the epi in every aspect possibible including versatility. Get the gretsch man.

  • @harrisonlennonshadow thank you

  • man you look exactly like stephen carpenter from the deftones !!!

    btw ...sweet sounds...thx for sharing

  • Nice playing.

I am looking at a 2006 model, the guy wants 650$, what do ya think? I play mostly acoustical rhythm right now, but want something to go with my VOX modeling amp with a fuller sound.

  • you can get them for cheaper, but sometimes finding one locally is worth paying a bit extra. I paid $650 for mine as well. I've since sold it and got a first year electromatic G5129 with the USA dearmond pickups!

  • @grev21 thanks for replying.

I will see if I can talk this fellow down!

  • I have the same guitar, do you think you could tell me the chords your using. I'd like to video record myself playing it

  • thanks man. Being self taught I really have no idea what chords are what, so this is the best I can do with looking stuff up online..........

  • obviously it opens in E (open E & 11th fret on the A string) then slide the d&g strings from the 9th to 11th frets back and forth twice then to a B power chord. then from what I can tell it's called a "C#/Db m CHORD" then a "F#/Gb CHORD" then slde up to a G power chord then right back to an E major (go down on the open E string and up for the rest) then hit the B that's within the E chord (second fret on the A string) then to the "G#/Ab m CHORD"

  • then right to the A power chord then to the B power chord (from there bring your pinky down to the b string 10th fret, then bring the pinky back into to the b string 9th fret) then finish back to the B power chord and start over again :)

  • What's the song called? Did you write it yourself or is it and interpretation of an existing track?

    All the best.

  • thanks, it's one of my own riffs, later me and the guys I jam & record with once every few years made it into a song.

feel free to send me your email address and I'll send you a mp3 of the song.

    Thanks again

  • i really love this guitar, last year i would sometimes spend10 minutes waliking fom my college to the nearby guitr shop to play it, and the brake was 15 minutes long, ill have this guitar someday

  • nice playnig dude.

  • Maybe it's the classic amp, youtube, my bad speakers, whatever, but I think you've got this total retro-recorded-sound thing going on. Great tone, I say. Although I have an orange 5120 too that I love, so I'm probably biased. :)

  • whatever is being used to record the sound along with youtubes normal butchering of sound has messed up what the guitar actually sounds like.

  • not really the case here.

also I think it's tuned a little high and the amp has alot to do with the tone you're hearing

  • not the case? how so?

  • because really, it's pretty true to what it sounds like imo

  • could be my speakers but the sound seems twice removed if you know what I mean.

  • wat was that in the beginning....(sigh)

  • ?? what ??

  • like that sound, I have to have this guitar

  • Love the sound. I have a Gretsch also. Check out my vids. Keep Rockin!!

  • pretty damn cool, nice sound. wish i had a gretsch like that

  • I thought you were about to head straight into Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye in the first few seconds.

I like your style. Very nice. I might by the 22 as opposed to the 20.

  • yeah, very good sound.

  • two questions. one: how loud does it sound unplugged? two: what is the highest fret you can reach comfortably on a G5120?

  • i have the thinner- double cutaway version of it, the g5122. and i ve played the g5120. it sounds just as loud as your average acoustic when unplugged. high fret access is an issue with that one, but not with the g1522.

  • It sounds good unplugged, maybe not as big sounding as a few of my old Harmony archtop and thinlines. But I guess I'd say it sounds as acoustically as it looks. a really tight jazzier tone maybe, rather than big and warm.

I don't play too often past the 15th on any guitar, but I see no reason you couldn't reach all without too much effort.

  • I'm definitely down for one of these. The ko-reans are similar to the japanese in their work ethic and attention to detail.A lot of the chinese look like they just don't give a shit.

  • Nice demo. Great to see one that isn't just a jazz improvisation!

  • cool sound you get!

  • fantastic job mate! i think im goin ta get me one tomorrow. Absolutely love the tone you get outa these babies. What kind of amp do you use by the way?

  • Thank, I appreciate that! I'm sure you'll love the guitar!

My amp in this video is a RCA Victor made by Univox.

  • great skills man. what chords did you use? id really like to know

  • Thanks man! Although I'm not sure about what chords I used, I don't know what chords are called what, that's one of the bad things about being self-taught.

  • for all you kooks that think there's this huge quality difference between Korea and Japan you're 100% WRONG! Why? The Korean and the Japs absolutely HATE each other. You don't think the Koreans know the 6120s are built in Japan and they aren't doing everything they can quality wise to show the Japs up? Think again boys.

  • as a korean i find that funny as hell. not that what you're saying doesn't have a grain of truth in it, (rice grain of course!) but like most very close neighbors korea's relationship w/ japan is much more complicated than that. I know for a fact that the Peerless factory in korea that makes the electromatic 512* series works hand in hand w/IdaGakki @ Nagoya, Japan, which happens to be the same town that the Terada factory is located (who make the mij Gretsches)

  • im getting that very guitar, its sitting in a guitar shop window near teh college i go to, i always get a glance at it every day. and i actually played it once, the tone was unbelievable, and the tremolo was amazing. im an 80's style metal head but this guitar is just somethign else

  • very nice beutiful sound im getting one soon!

  • Trust me dude. You will always have that doubt in your mind like someome who always wantet a Gibson LP but bought an Epiphone. You need to buy that Falcon or Nashville. Yeah, you got a good guitar but has no value itself. why? because it was made in China or Korea.,

  • Have you played this model? Sure, there's a big difference between the 6120 and 5120, but for that price it's absolutely ok.

  • I played them. I cannot say anything negative about them other than upgrade value. I prefer solid body and own a pro Jet. Great guitar in it`s own right. I just don`t care about it like my duo. As for hollow. I am enjoying an Aria FA-175. Made in Kentucky. It is a semi and it is a beaut! yeah, a Japanese company but the guitar surpasses anything I tried at the price. The Bigsby was a bonus! Enjoy your swatter and keep rockin!

  • Cool guitar.

    I have an Gretsch Electromatic.

But... We talk about you, :D

    Keep going!!

  • i just bought the same guitar last week. sounds great in open d which is what i use it for. nice playing ty

  • Can anyone explain me why these gretsches are much cheaper than for instance a brian setzer or white falcon, ...? Does it has something to do with accuracy of the intonation or ... ? please help me out

  • it is because it has cheaper pickups, and everything is a bit cheaper on it than on a real Tennessean for example....

  • These are so much cheaper b/c they're factory-built in Korea, not USA. Sure, the Gretschbucker pickups are not classic Filtertrons, but they actually sound great in their own right. I've got over 20 guitars (incl NICE old Fenders, Gibson, PRS) and have been playing for 30 years, but I play my 5120 now almost exclusively. Intonation & setup are great, neck is flawless, everything is stellar on this guitar. Can't believe how much "Great Gretsch Sound" you can get for so little money!

  • True that the 5120 electromatics are made in Korea, but the White Falcon and Brian Setzer models aren't made in USA either... The "high-end" Gretsches like that are made in Japan. The better of the Electromatic hollow bodies are the 5125-5129 models. They come with the US DeArmond single-coil pickups that gave the early fifties Gretsches that "Great Gretsch Sound". They are a few bucks more, but well worth it. Like you said about the craftmanship and playability, you are absolutely correct!

  • you 're right i've a 5120 too and the tone is absolutely amazing for a 500 euros guitar. I've palyed on a setzer model and the sound wasn't better but the price is impossible.

  • Sounds nice man, i dig the chords. I got the same orange 5120. Keep doin it

  • nice man! ive always wanted a gretsch... i played a 1937 synchromatic and it was WONDERFUL!!

nice tune too, what is it?

  • Thanks, I'm lovin' the guitar

The tune is just a little riff of mine, glad you like it :)

  • oh nice! keep it up man!
