  • 12 dislikes? What do people just dislike feeling mellow and happy?

  • TOO.

    FUCKING.

    CHILL.

  • WHAT IS THIS?????

  • @lloplop this is "the shit!"

the best shoegazer band -- ever

  • lyrics: Shine through the light So my thoughts won't Have to fight For your love Just to see you in me Hurts too much Mind fills with the thought Love you till I caught Fish in the sky Impossible to fly See you walk away Why can't you stay and Shine through the light So my thoughts won't Have to fight For your love Just to see you in me Hurts too much High from above I see the words of love Decay to the ground Betray what I've found
  • Beautiful music, and I hear the influence of cocteau twins / moon and the melodies

  • i really hope slowdive's former members will eventually see reason and do something big with each other one day. They need to know that it's bigger than all of them (what they did together) and their problems. A little longer together and they would have become 'all-time greats' imo. Such a shame.

  • AHHHH! this song! I LOVE SLOWDIVE

  • She is beautiful

  • try ecstasy with this song... i've watched this video at home once on XTC and it literally fucks ur soul.... in poetic terms.

  • what the hell happened to this planet

we embraced the human's ability to express sound in any form at one point.

Now we ENCOURAGE it in an inevitable direction to confused youth.

  • Love listening to this song while on a plane.

  • Later tonight following 16 and Pregnant don't forget to watch 120 Minutes.

  • Back wen MTV actually played great music

They just play crap these days

  • My bloody valentine is just as great as Slowdive. Meaning I like them both, but Slowdive just gets my mood. its easy on the ears. I love it

  • 90s video alert--swirling the roman candles around. Great song though.

  • I remember buying a copy of Select magazine at Tower Records in Ann Arbor, on senior spring break in 1992. There was a Creation Records cassette compilation with it. This track was on it and upon first listen, I thought that if there is a heaven, this is what I think it sounds like...

  • Just to be clear; My Bloody Valentine invented the style. The members of slowdive would be the 1st to admit it.

  • @anothercountyheard yea ok....did u just make that up? i was listening to slowdive in the early 90's and none of us had ever even heard the term 'shoegaze' until youtube came along. slowdive doesnt belong in that stupid genre definition. yea, maybe mbv created what u all call shoegaze but slowdive damn sure doesnt belong in it. if anything, cocteau twins created the style slowdive borrowed from.

  • @lunarsiege Omg you're just wrong. The term was in use by 1992. I agree with you about Cocteau Twins and 4AD in general. The real deal was of course LOVELESS, that's where it began.

  • They played Irving Plaza in New York in the early 90s. It was oddly mesmerizing. They just stood there; the only thing moving was their strumming. 3 guitars. A shimmering wall of sound. It was really beautiful. Believe me.

  • @rdw7300 I believe, I believe!

  • @rdw7300 i believe you- they came to Seattle on that tour, and opened for Ride. what a sonic massage!

  • The greatest!!!!

  • I was just watching an interview with Neil Halstead and he barely mentioned Slowdive. It saddens me. Such beautiful music.

  • Love

  • what a TUNE

  • I can listen to this song for an eternity.

  • BEAUTIFUL Music

  • Forget My Bloody Valentine. Slowdive is the greatest shoegaze band of all time.

  • Thank you for uploading this video. I wish embedding was not disabled. i want to share it on facebook :(

  • Soothing! Don't think i've ever heard music i would call "dreamy" like this before..

  • Back then MTV stood for: Music Television.

But now it stands for: Moronic Television.

Oh how sweet the past is.

  • oh shit! i didnt know mtv actually play music videos!!!

  • it's true. but look at them in the late 80s with hair metal and flaky pop ruling the airwaves. we're back in another incarnation of the late 80s video-wise, my friend, but hopefully that soon means we'll be back in another early 90s again when mtv cared about real music and substantive artistry.

  • yes very true even goth is back but in a different form like the band ashbury heights. metal wont stop growing it bugs me. you know what though an eightys fan who realy loved that time period acted on it by starting a band and being successfull, which brought it back which is pretty much taking place now and for shoegaze to come back it would take someone to act on it by starting a band and be successfull. if this doesnt happen this music will die and the only listeners will be our generation

  • Greatest band ever.

  • @pyramidion thats a bit much

  • Adoro qsto video e la canzone...

    Capolavoro di sconvolgente bellezza....

  • I finally got Just For A Day, and had forgotten Shine was on the re-release...this is heaven right here...

  • this song is an audio bong.

  • brilliance.

  • o god this shuld be my dream tonight <33

  • Very lush and dreamy...

  • shoegazing

  • Still dreamin about that...

  • Sigh, Indeed. I was more into the speedy end of shoegazing(Ride and swervedriver) but this is is sublime:)

  • diamond of a song....

  • Slowdive, MBV, Mojave 3 are all sweet.

  • shoegaze=life <3

  • sweet music return slowdive!

  • This song is absolutely perfect, brings me back to my early days!

  • wish i had weed and some cold water sitting down on a hill listening to this song on a cloudy day........................

  • That sounds like a good day

  • @9graff9 perfect

  • @9graff9 That makes 2 of us.

  • @9graff9 lol and some water.... but that does sound zen [:

  • @9graff9

Wish I had some weed and someone else to listen to this with while sitting on a hill on a cloudy day.

  • @9graff9 i wish i had some weed.

  • absolutely love this album...never seen this video before though. Everyone should check out the Lily's "Coby" on youtube too...another rare but good one.

  • How the fuck did this pass me by? same as a lot of people on here..... i never even heared of them, and i love my music!!! so....looks like i'll be making up for lost time en!

  • ah rachel goswell,beautiful face beautiful voice.wonderful

  • I got into MBV years ago and friends recommended Slowdive... jesus, why did I wait so long before checking this band out? Absolutely moving!!

  • It happens! MBV kicks ass!

  • wonderful band

  • Shoegaze rule number one........ My Bloody Valentine.....nuff said

  • amen

  • this song can drift your concious into harmony, if you let it.

  • Rachel looks so hot in this video. She's like the perfect redhead.

  • dont forget 'RIDE'.

  • how could anyone forget 'RIDE' absolutely brilliant

  • Back when MTV actually played music videos :]

  • Slowdive still kicks my atmosphere...classic...

  • This is great british music ,

and there are many great British bands, but don't try to say British rock dominates the rest. brit and america are almost musically equal

(post Blues). but look for instances in bands just from my state of washington-modest mouse, the posies, jimi hendrix, nirvana, sound garden, the sonics, death cab for cutie, sunny day real estate, Elliot Smith, Heart, the ventures, the kingsmen, and the postal service

  • Slowdive's music flows as if they wrote it to conduct the beating of my heart. Absolutely astounding.

  • It might be due to being a small country (possible to tour the whole place in under a month, or do-able to travel to the nearest biggest city to catch the bands you love) with a lot of rain and a natural tendency towards melancholy. Speaking the same language as The United States plays its part too: important source of influence and a good huge market to sell stuff to when we get our cultural products right.

Hey, there's loads of horrific rubbish from Britain too: a real love of bad pop music.

  • I'm English and a lot of the music I love comes from Britain. It's tempting to say a disproportionate amount of great music comes from The UK, but I'm not sure how much water that idea holds.

  • I'm German and I have to say I agree with you, as far as rock music goes. I have always viewed the UK as the country with the best rock music (proportionally speaking, as there is also bad British rock :). Around 90% of the rock music I listen to comes from Great Britain and Ireland.

I've always wondered why this is, too. I think part of the reason is that in Britain aspiring artists are being promoted much more by the media than in other countries.

  • E. g., I know quite a lot of amazing German rock bands that never get any airplay and are rarely, or never, talked about in the media. If there was more support of new Indie bands, it would most likely lead to there being more good rock bands founded, overall.

Until that's the case in Germany, I'm going to stick with British rock, though. :)

  • Nothing wrong with being nice and a bit middle-class. Not everyone can be Method man, you know. Shame the British music press decided they should be derided.

I still listen to them: I think the music is beautiful. I've not heard anything that quite hits the mark. Sure, The Cocteau Twins are amazing, My Bloody Valentine are fantastic, but they were doing something quite different to what Slowdive were.

Eric's Song, Golden Hair, Primal and Souvlaki Space Station might be my faves.

  • The Brits have some of the best bands of all time. There's also

    The Chameleons, Comsat Angels

    Joy Division/New Order, Ride, Cure

Smiths, Clash, Spiritualized/Spaceman 3, Sundays, Radiohead, David Bowie, Jam, Chapterhouse, Pink Floyd,

Specials, Roxy Music, Police, Tears for Fears, Def Leppard, Echo and the Bunnymen, Jam, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Simple Minds, Bauhaus, Killing Joke, Madness, Adam and the Ants, Primitives, Jesus and Mary Chain

Sex Pistols, Pale Saints, Catherine Wheel

  • when you put it like that it's hard to disagree haha. dont forget black sabbath!

  • I didn't forget!! But I ran out of comment space!!! Black Sabbath is great.

  • Hey you listed the Jam x2 (lol).And you forgot:the Fall,Housemartins,Sisters of Mercy,House of Love,Mock Turtles,the High,Northside,Flowered Up,the Farm.Love&Rockets,Jesus Jones,808state,Oasis,MBV,(the girls,too:Curve,Lush,Cranes,etc.) Long live the Smiths

  • Also another overlooked shoe gazing band was " Chapterhouse". they were good.

  • I have their CD with the dog on the cover. I think it includes the song Breath. Pretty good CD.

  • I never knew that was a dog..lol

  • its a white fluffy cat isn't it?!

  • It seems that shoegazing in general was overlooked. Except for the pioneers who refused to accept the name.

  • Thanx mate.... loved these guys heaps so i'll check out 'chapterhouse' never heard of em'....

  • Thats the beauty of Youtube, I really couldn,t remember this group, they are good too..Listen to Mesmerise and Pearl..two great tracks by Chapterhouse..enjoy.

  • I used to play 'Slowdive' all the time years ago..have all their albums and some EP's....

but will check out chapterhouse now... :)

  • Cool...and im gonna have to get up to date on this band...17 years later!!..Doh!

  • whirlpool, such a fantastic album! :)

  • whirlpool is a beautiful record by Chapterhouse - what i like about many of the tracks on that album is that they are musically like this but the tempo is a lot quicker - my faves are breather and something more.

  • If all you guys like this, you'll love the Cocteau Twins...

  • I vote Rachel Goswell 'most beautiful woman in music'.

And I vote Slowdive 'most underrated band'.

  • this video is beatiful, better than I ever imagine it. Slowdive sets a whole universe in its videos, they make you believe that they live there and there´s more life around.

  • outer space pretty nice band

  • rachel goswell is sexy

  • poetic...and totally mesmerising...

  • ha! i love the genre, but this is funny...

  • I have to admit I laughed.

  • ha ha thats really funny man, after an hours of total boredom.

    (no offense to anything)

  • This song is so incredibly beautiful. And i'm a guy....

  • this, on the otherhand, I love, because it makes me think of things other than myself. It causes me to reflect on love, eternity, existence, and all the deep things in life. Modern MTV focuses on objects and trivalities, ever focusing inward on nothing.

  • I'm more into the music. Complex things can be trivial too.

  • i love your commenst on SLOWDIVE...

  • I despise pop-culture, which includes most of what MTV represents these days

  • had to be great times, seeing this on "MTV" ... long before MTV today with it's stupid braindead dating shows and other bullshit. If only MTV (Germany) would ever broadcast great music like this..

  • If you think MTV there is bad, stateside I seriously haven't seen a music video on MTV in probably 4 years. I'm starting to even miss bullshit shows like TRL. God what happened to that channel?

  • slooooooooooooooooooooooowdiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve

  • It pisses me off that awesome groups like Slowdive; Ride; Pale Saints etc were stereotyped as shoegazer bands....duh!!! Let's face it people....the music of today should be stereotyped as 'KAK' compared to this beautiful anthem. Leona Lewis - eat your heart out. Someone should.

  • whats a 'KAK'?

  • Kak is a polite word for Shit.

  • oh i see

  • lmao! Totally using that next time the opportunity arises.

  • One of the most beautiful videos ever

  • I love you rachel goswell. You are the most beautiful ginger ever!

  • @9eyeh8chu9

Rachael Goswell, the only ginger with a soul :D

  • ahhhhhhhh esty volando

  • if only they would reform... the world needs slowdive back.

  • and Ride.

  • que hermosa cancion,se parece a las gotas de la lluvia...hermoso, dulce melodia.

  • @groundedguy : I'm sure it is.

I remember seeing the vid for the 1st time one sunday evening in `91 - changed my life forever

  • wow, remember when mtv used to show videos?

  • The "good ol' days"...

  • And of good music too (!).

  • I try but i cant... i cant belive how stupid is now mtv, i used to leave the channel on all day.

    STUPID MTV!

  • yeah it's really strange. i want music-videos and not that tina tequila "is she gay or straight"-show.

  • Could this be the prettiest song I've ever heard?

  • comfort music

    'im growing up again"

  • this is the gate to heaven

  • Shoegazers rocked. Listening to music made me want to live in the UK. I guess Minneapolis was close enough. It gets cloudy for days up there and I think it sometimes inspires great music and art.

  • My favourite ever Slowdive track, it's beautiful.

  • The universe understands you.

  • Lovely Rachel Goswell. A twenty a day woman I believe.

  • I think you've missed the point of this kind of music if you're caught up in pointless disputes over the origins of the genre

  • Like being washed over with warm waves of luscious chocolate sound...this is the song I wanna hear when I die....

  • White chocolate?

  • Just makes me want to whip out a seven-string with locking tremelo

  • bliss.

  • :) wonderful 5*

  • unfortunate that shoegaze never caught on the same way grunge did...

  • nope, just you

  • i don't know what you implying, but i am a big fan of shoegazing bands, including slowdive.

  • are you implying that I am a depressed homosexual?

  • Grunge fucking sucks ass. Can't hold a candle to shoegaze

  • Mmm. I must disagree. I listen to Grunge and I listen to this. Neither are horrible.

  • It's sheer luck where the individuals appear. If the Beatles were born in the USA they would be just as epic but perhaps a different band. American style rather, but would that matter if they were still the 4 Beatles.

    Btw the Pixies FTW.

  • Slowdive, Joy Division, The Chameleons, The Smiths, The Cure, The Clash, The Police, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, The Stone Roses, Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Roxy Music, Radiohead, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Echo and the Bunnymen, U2, New Order, Psychadelic Furs, The Jam, Oasis, The Kinks, Def Leppard...the Brits have cornered the music market. The gloomy weather must have something to do with it.

  • Britain far surpasses the United States in terms of music. And that is coming from an American.

  • we got AC/DC. in your face, fruitcake!

  • up your shiynola sizzle chest. AC/DC went downhill after the death of their first singer, although Back in Black ain't bad. You also have Hoodoo Gurus, The Church, Midnight Oil, Bee Gees and a host of other notable bands.

  • Rock and Roll and everything that has stemmed from it all owes everything to american blues and jazz.
