  • I admire his speed, it takes a lot of it to do two cuts on one piece without ripping any of it apart; but, some of his cuts would of chipped his blade if he were using bamboo because his blades edge wasn't at a perfectly straight angle for some cuts.

    4/5

  • i noticed when he went up he slouched down a little might just be the angle he was at to cut the mat though but when ever i do that is kills my back

  • Hiden, haven't you ever heard that the goal in practicing kamae is to reach the point where they all disappear? Train more, and do it with the motivation of mastering a life and death art, and you'll see what purpose kamae really serve.

  • The cut of 0:35 is my favorite... Right through and still standing.

  • i would like to see him in a kumite

  • what was the post made of? he cut the post like it was a stick of butter !

  • It's not a post he's cutting, it's a rolled up tatami mat made of reeds.

  • oh wait my bad, your a kendo master, not even kenjutsu..well that gives you even more right to comment!

  • People who know personally this man are amazed by his performance and skill... in Korea and Japan kids and teenagers practice regularly this, it is a routine and they dont consider this as achievement. Many mistakes are in his posture and his stance to be precise he has no stance ! Cant you guys see that ?? Maybe not because you do the same.

  • ah yes i see your a "master" or judo and kenjutsu... i see.... its nice you think this gives you the right to comment on the quality of Sensei Williams since im sure you have alot more experiance in classical swordsmanship and bugei than him.

  • Unless you know the precise ryu-ha that he is demonstrating, you really can't make much of a comment on his kamae (what you erroneously refer to as stance).

He isn't performing kata, he is doing live cutting. There are no fixed kamae in live combat of any type. Kamae flow freely in live exercises.

I think you are talking out of your posterior.

  • gmanry, james "Hollywood" williams studied Yanagi-ryu

under Don Angier maybe for at least 5 years more or less, and then turn around and he made up Nami-ryu.

  • I am curious what are his mistakes in his posture and his stance?

  • gurno-Stop kissing Mr. James Williams ASS! Do not worry, he will put in on his next training video. He is very good on what he does and you don't have to defend him. He knows it and everyone knows that. Damn dude, are you gay or what. Stop fallowing him around like a dog. He can talk for himself.

  • Hiden-You are not going to win because most of them are blind and most of them if not all are his students. Example, "gurrno" he is one of his fanatic follower and he will defend his master always. Gurrno is nothing with out James and his very existance and life revolves around nami-ryu. You take that away and he has no life.

  • I met James Williams at a Don Angier seminar. He is unyielding in his perception of the way that the classical Budo arts are to be presented. I applaude his integrity.

  • People would be suprised how easy it is to cut like that.. with a sharp sword at least. Then again thats what they might be trying to convey.

  • It really amamzing how these chinese katanas of Paul Chen replicas cuts so nice. I know Bugei Co. and they sell nice items, a little bit expensive, but good items at last.

  • Nice cuts. Wish I had some tatami to try my German Bastard sword out on... milk jugs work pretty well too though

  • haha thats my ex sensei how funny

  • o_o....if you say so.
