This was great - thanks. I grew up surfing IB. Back in the 60's it had some great rights on the north side. They dredged the bottom in 78 and jacked it. It used to have the fastest toughest break in SoCal. You had to be super quick and the drop was nearly vertical, but if you made it, you were treated with a really fast ride.
This is a view of the North Side of the pier. The best surf side is the South Side! Despite the bad rep Imperial Beach gets from Mexican pollution after it rains you can't beat it after the tourists leave. It's a true getaway from the major crowds. You can even walk to Mexico if your nuts enough however Border Patrol is always vigilant. The illegals use this beach to get in aswell. I wish I could take a stroll down it right now but I can't. I'm on the Right Coast thousands of miles away!
Actually the south side has been pretty crappy all summer . But if you walk down the beach there's some awesome breaks around descanso street. I'm glad the video reminded you of IB. Every beach in SoCal gets polluted after rain. IB's problem isn't mexico, that shit gets pumped way out in the ocean. It's the valley to the east thats full of cows, horses and greenhouses. The runoff from that is IB's problem.
Thanks for the heads up! Descanso St. used to be my favorite until they started doing repairs. I decided to park on Admiralty instead for a little while. Sorry to hear the surf was crappy. It's still my favorite beach and it beats Upstate New York right now. Man, It's already snowing here?! Cripes! Enjoy those magic rays, Solbro2000. Thanks for quick update.
