Its my first comment on youtube, this in particular is well put to together and slick however the bond knowledge behind it is questionable.I am sick to death of hearing so many dreary americans droning on with their annoying flymo clipped vowels bleating rubbish about bond. This shows lack of knowledge about fleming, pulling the character from his suave intelligence background .The sense of humour is unique & hollywood is jealous of our class, subtlty&character actors.Watch Die Hard for gods sake!!
Bond isn't my absolute favourite movie series, but like most people I'm a fan. I've rewatched the series on DVD and I have to agree with HaphazardStuff. Both of Moore's first films are dull and Moore wasn't allowed to play the part his way until SWLM. Can't fault any of the criticisms in the video review and it appeared that the producers weren't entirely confident about the series at this stage. It's a real shame that Guy Hamilton was responsible for both, Goldfinger being a series high.
Roger was and still is my favorite Bond in my opinion he nailed it very pollite and british just perfect also Roger was the first english man to play the part cause sean was scottish timothy was welsh and Pirerce was born in Ireland lol
TMWTGG and LALD are all about the fun. Too much serious critique on what could be said to be tongue-in-cheek films is kind of ridiculous. I love these films because they are hard working efforts and so much fun. Roger is cool.
Live and Let Die worked for the period. It's pointless trying to measure Moore's first films up against the first 4 bonds which were new and fresh and oozed the coolness of the 1960s. Didn't see the point of noting the Leiter character, I suppose his presence pleases American audiences.
I don't know why TMWTGG gets so much flak. I think it's a great film. The darker tone from Moore in this film was great and he does it well. LALD is also a great one.
2:20 if you count Connery's voice over work in the From Russia With Love video game, he beats Moore's record for playing the character the most times.
Great and interesting recaps/reviews, although I would liked that the Sean Connery movie-reviews were as in-depth as the Roger Moore reviews.. I don't agree with all of your opinions, but major Bond-fans like you and me never do (on every level), right?
it's a pity to hear a viewer (the poster of this video) to be disappointed about so many Moore films made at the time. I enjoyed them all when they came out and enjoy watching them again. Good thing I'm not a film critic.
No I've grown to like Live And Let Die more, I think it is very good, but it's still sixth place under Roger Moore. I like all his movies, except The Man With The Golden Gun - utterly horrible
It was The Living Daylights and Dalton we were on about back in the day :).
Scaramanga was OK as a villain, but the awful script and plot didn't really give any of the actors a chance to shine.. There's not really one thing I enjoyed about Golden Gun, and Roger Moore himself seemed bored with the movie.
What is the name of the theme that plays in the beginning of this video. I know it's the "Bond theme" but what's the title exactly. I've heard it play in a lot of trailers the last couple Bond movies.
@Dedokai32 Not a chance. Far too Cheesy. I'd rather Connery, Craig or Dalton any day. His movies were just cheesy spy films that could have sold as spoofs.
That's why i liked him as bond he gave it humour with his wit and quirkyness and one has to assume that's why he did quite a few outings, and have you seen the original Casino Royale that was a spoof @adamonthetube
I was born in 1965...i remember after live and let die was first shown on network tv...there was a huge interest at my grade school in tarot cards...esp...psychics etc....many of us bought tarot cards at the bookstores.../ @ milwaukee
I'm up to Moonraker in Moore's stuff, I have to say that my favorite film of his so far is The Man With The Golden Gun. Christopher Lee and him had great chemistry.
God. could you imagine if Bond had gone to an American. No offence to those guys their all very good actors, i have nothing against America. Giving the most famous british agent to an America, it'd be like declaring Einstein as the stupidest man to have ever lived.
IMO I thought Roger moores ones where some of the best. with the exception of the last one he did i liked his version of bond more then i lked alot of the others. Nothing against Connery but a scottish actor as a brit was weird(And b4 anyones Bashes me I'm Scottish so its no discrimitive thing) to me. But I will say that with the exception of James Lazenbeen ALL the bonds where better then Daneil Craig.
you just dumped on the best two bond films ever .........you sir are a scoundrel.........stick your head in a bucket of mud for a few days and see if that will help
Gee wiz. Are you even a Bond fan? You are SO hard on these two. I think The Man With The Golden Gun is pretty dull, but have some mercy. After hearing you bash these
pix. I think I now like them ten times more than before.
I noticed that you complained of Live and Let Die Seaming dated. Being "dated" is never a fault in a Bond film as each entry reflects the era in which it was made. Each film is "current" when released and a window to that era when watched later.
My favorite Bond Movies had either Connery or Moore. Sean and Roger are like the star on top of a Christmas tree. Sure there are gifts and decorations, but without the star, there's something missing.
In my opinion, "Live and Let Die" is one of the best Bond movies. The villain is mean, the henchman is intimidating, The villain's plan is realistic, Jane Seymour is very good, the boat chase is nice. Even JW Pepper is OK in this movie. There was also the bus scene, and the extermination of the villain is very unusual (before Roy Scheider in Jaws). OK, the alligator scene is silly, and the movie is very politically incorrect, but it is a good Bond movie, despite what's said in this review.
what did roger moore wear in the movie octopussy. when he arrived on a crocodile submarine. when he meet octopussy what color dress shirt, vest and pants he wore in the movie octopussy.
I think that your piece you put together here is great, but the reason Mr. Big looks the way he looks is because of his Medical heart condition he is supposed to have, that alters his looks, and his skin tone from black to grayish (See Live and Let Die the book) I know you have read it.
It seemed that The Man With The Golden Gun, had something that Moore had some darkness. But then The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only was Moore's serious movies. The rest were just for fun
Mr. Big looked confident in taking on James Bond in their fight, but it was disappointing. Roger Moore just seemed to own his ass, if you watch the fight scene. The Man With the Golden Gun was one of, if not, the slowest moving James Bond film ever... ...And, in my opinion, yes, they were right in having J.W. Peppar a second time. He was hilarious and was one of my favorite Bond characters!
I'm not a big fan of the Moore Bonds but you have to admire the way he seemed to effortlessly step into the role. Moore had a cool confidence that I think was key in winning over the audience; Moore didn't appear to doubt his ability to be James Bond and neither did the viewer.
sheriff pepper was an excellent fun character in the Live and Let die, he had some great lines that crack me up even today. His dialogue in the next movie however was less well written and less funny.
A lot of people really like Live and Let Die because of it's villains and exotic story. I did find it very slow moving until the last 40 minutes. Love the theme song though and Moore looked very incredibly young for his age. Man With The Golden Gun is very disappointing (even counting all the compensations you mentioned in the review). Moore didn't have as good a introduction to the series as Connery had and I still like Moore for his humour and his less cold blooded take on Bond.
The hand holding the pistol can waver all over the place. My Canadian military training with the Browning 9 mm showed me that bracing the pistol butt in the palm of the left hand, while the Browning was gripped by the right, produced a tripod
stance which is the most stable for aiming and firing. The Browning was a heavy piece with a kick like a mule - I was
actually quite proficient with it whereas colleagues couldn't hit a thing with it.
