  • tuition, but as long as you've got a training partner (or ideally a few training partners of different sizes) and you study the grappling techniques diligently, one can learn them. The difficulty in bjj is not just learning the techniques, but setting them up against a resisting opponent. Learning the counters to their counters and is analogous to chess in many ways i.e. anticipating what they are trying to do, thinking ahead, flowing from one technique to another, body positioning & angles.

  • The great thing about these videos are you are learning from the best exponents of bjj in the world. People say (generally instructors with a vested interest) that you can't learn martial arts from videos, but in the case of bjj and general striking arts, one can learn practically all the techniques, especially if the techniques are taught as well as these videos. I think learning more subtle stand-up arts which break the centre i.e.iwama ryu aikido, daito ryu aikijujutsu, chin na, etc do need

  • @martialway100 This is so true. Befour I joined a BJJ class I watched all there videos and praticed on a human dummy. When I started the glass the black belt were shocked how good I was. They said I must have been a purple belt befour! lol Today Bjj school alot of the black belts were wrestlers in collfege so there style is more agressive, so they always teas me about how my style is the classic way. Bjj really works some of the white belt said these basic movies saved there life on the street.

  • @Zach5383 they wouldn't teach you striking at bjj, but you could learn Muay Thai to compliment your ground game

  • Right on!!. Thanks for posting!!

  • U would be trained to fake a strike then go for a takedown

  • I'm aware that jiu jitsu primarily has to do with grappling and submissions, but if one were to train, would they be taught striking additionally?
