  • i appreciate man for showing us how to install graphic card

can i install 4870 HD on my intel D945 motherboard????????

  • @009ijn That very long pci-e slot, if you have that slot on your motherboard, enough power from your power supply, and the pci-e 6 pin cables and the space in your case. Those are the 3 things you need to be able to use the 4870.

  • @ThisGuyJohn well i have the original psu 300 watts and i have the pci-e x16 slot with 2 gigs of ram ddr2 667mhz , pentium D 3.4.

can u plz search my board in google image search to see for your self that is intel D945GNT u can then analyse my board for ur self for HD4870.waiting for ur reply

  • @009ijn Alright, you have the right slot for it, but the power supply will not be able to run the 4870. You'll want a really good branded 550w like Corsair, or at least a 600w from most other companies to be able to run your 4870 and everything else in your pc properly. The P-D is gonna hold you a little back from getting full performance out of the 4870 though. You might wanna consider a whole new computer build with your 4870.

  • @ThisGuyJohn thanks man for ur supportive informatrion.but will this HD4870 doesnt help with my current pentium D (3.4 ghz 4MB cache) at all? and BTW i will upgrade the ram.

  • @009ijn It will definitely show in a lot of games, just don't expect to get 100% out of it until you upgrade the processor and ram to help out the GPU. My suggestion is an i3 or i5 CPU for cheap with a decent p55 motherboard, and 4GB of ddr3 RAM. Your overall feel of computing will feel much much faster.

  • i appreciate man for showing us how to install graphic card

  • dued ur the best because u did an install and show thats it's working

  • @Theravhard haha I'm thinking of showing all the other steps soon because I'm going to be rebuilding my PC probably next week.

  • @ThisGuyJohn nice!!! THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!! BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHER VIDS!

  • @Theravhard lol Alrighty then

  • do you have to use that adapter thing? @5:51

  • do you have to use that adapter thing? @5:51

  • isnt alien ware a beast?

  • @jobazy No, it's normal hardware that you can buy separately, but overpriced because of their brand name.

  • @ThisGuyJohn ok i think im just going to get a pci card i know not that great but its just temporary do you know of a decent pci card i can buy?

  • @jobazy no, trying to get a PCI card is just as hard and expensive as AGP.. If your motherboard doesn't have PCI-express, then it's really time for a new PC..

  • @ThisGuyJohn i would like to get a new pc but funds a lil more limited than i thought

  • @ThisGuyJohn ok how will i know what pc has a pci-e or not id hate to buy a new one that has no pci-e!

  • @jobazy All newer PCs have motherboards with that slot. I sent you a private message showing the differences in how the slots look.

  • @ThisGuyJohn ok thanks man. so if i buy a new kinda cheap pc it will have the pci-e. oh and what about cpu isnt a cor 2 duo good enough?

  • @jobazy I'd recommend a strong quad, but if you can't afford one, I'm sure the c2d should be fine. It's more about your great your harddrives are. You want at least a 7200RPM sata type. Caviar Blacks are my preferred choice

  • i have about a 5 year old hp and i was wondering if i could install at least a ATI Radion hd 4200? i just wana play my mmorpg games at least at medium

  • @jobazy does the 4200 need any external power? If the old HP has at least a PCI-e slot and not an AGP slot, then you should be good to go with it.

  • @ThisGuyJohn i dont think it has a PCI-e slot :(

  • @jobazy Dang.. Then it's not really possible to use it. You would have to find some sort of AGP video card, which is extremely slow and stupidly high priced. You'd be better off just getting a $400-500 desktop, which would be exponentially faster than your 5 year old HP. Might not have been the answer you're looking for, but it's the sad reality of time vs hardware..

  • @jobazy if i get a new one im just going to save up for a good one im willing to spend about a thousand

  • @jobazy Awesome, you can get a strong ass desktop PC for that price!

  • i just bought a Galaxy Geforce gts 250 1gb ddr3 graphics card, i installed it and it runs for a little then my screens just goes blank and says "entering power save mode" and when i press on my keys or move my mopuse its still blank. Please help!!

  • @13oogie bad card, or you don't have enough power to run it.

  • um a asus p6t for $180 or asus rampage 2 extreme for 250$

  • @asianplayer1 Whatever is at least p55 or x58, go for it. The only thing that's really expensive compared to an older p45 or x48 motherboard is the RAM.

  • @ThisGuyJohn well the ram isenty to expenciv looks like u have gskill in urs proly ddr3 thats about 110 for 2 2gig chips

  • @reizp My Gskill ram is 800mhz ddr2 lol.. All ddr2 ram literally doubled in price for whatever the reason..

  • @ThisGuyJohn really ha thats exzactly what ive got in mine . im odering 2 2 gig chips next week lol its going to run me 98 for 4 gigs so thats not to bad i think but the bord i just got isent my ideal bord bc i wanna run ddr3 but all in all im varry happy with it bc it came with my bild ur own system its the gigabite m somthing lol i think its the same one as urs but send me and add budd

  • @reizp ic ic :P

  • woops Q8200

  • can i ask for your opinion i about to buy a second hand quad core E8200 oc at 3ghz for $165 australia dollars is that cheap?

  • @asianplayer1 I can get a q9550 for $180-200 usd.. Wayyyy better. Anything else you can get a deal on? That's a more entry level quad core.

  • ok thanx i about to get a new motherboard asus rampage II

  • @asianplayer1 Nice nice. Hope everything turns out great

  • yep it still new but the guy that is sellling to me said that there is no sticker.

  • @asianplayer1 As long as it works, go for it

  • + heatsink

  • i about to get gddr2 palit 9500gt 512mb for 40$ is that cheap?

  • @asianplayer1 It's alright for the price.. Is it new though?

  • lol that thing is clocked faster than a 4850 but weak Streaming proccesors only 128 compared to the 4850 @ 800 Sreaming proccesros

  • @ZER0EVO Don't be fooled by the marketing jargon. The 800 stream processors are "specialists" that only do specific things, while each of the 128 SP on Nvidia's architecture do everything in rendering the image. It's still around the same performance as the 4850. But there's no way I could stick with this over my 4870.

  • mad comp

  • @asianplayer1 Thanks lol

It just keeps getting better too.

  • What site your recommend?

  • @largemp8 newegg or amazon in that order.

  • Looks like I have 1 4 pin ATX power and 1 Floppy drive connector, I think I have to return the card and buy a card that doesn't require a Power supply. D:

  • @largemp8 Or you could get a power supply for around $40-60.. D:

  • Or called the Boston-GL6

  • My Motherboard is the MS-7525. BTW.

  • Do you think the two cables that say P6 and P8 are the Molex power and I would put them into the Converter and then put that into the Graphics Card?

  • My Comp has an Intergrated graphics card when I install the GTS 250 will I need to do anything different?

  • @largemp8 Just make sure you have the necessary power from the power supply, as well as the connectors. And of course you need a pci-e x16 slot on your motherboard. But other than that, you're all set.

  • Thank I have the x16 pciE but I only have 2 things that dont look like what goes into the card they have P6 and P8 text on them. I'm wondering how do I convert this to the corrct 6 pin power and does one come with the GTS 250 Thanks for your help.

  • The cables are supposed to be from your power supply. The only cables that come with this card are 6 pin to molex adapters, in case you don't have 6 pin pci-e power cables. Generally all modern day power supplies have molex at the very least.

  • Nice DeathAdder and 4870. I have a question, though. What case do you have? And did the 4870 come with both 6-pin power connectors?

  • Antec 300 mid tower case (mine is modded) and do you mean the pci-e 6pin to molex adapters for an older power supply? In that case, yes. All the power connections are of the power supply obviously, but if yours is an older one and or just has very low wattage, it might not have any pci-e connections.

  • No :p the 4870 needs 2 6 pin connectors running to the PSU, i have a Corsair 750TX, and I'm picking up a 4890 soon and they use the same connectors. I was just curious if the GPU came with those two 6 pin connectors since I know my PSU didn't, or if I'd have to pick some up elsewhere.

  • ..You have a Corsair 750w, just as I, and you don't have any of the FOUR dedicated pci-e 6pin+2(for 8 pin) connections?

  • I only have 1, but mine is modular. Maybe they didn't include the cables? Mines not the TX, but the HX, forgot I upgraded to the modular recently :p But yeah, only have one... might be something wrong on Corair's end.

  • Yea, you should definitely have 4. 2 of them are 6 pins, the other 2 are 6pin+2 (8pin) for the even jucier cards. Go contact them and see what's up with the lack of cables.

  • Did so yesterday, they said I definitely needed those haha and shipped me some out. Thanks though, I would have ended up trying to find some on my own, because I figured they came with the GPU since they weren't included with my PSU.

About your case though, what's modded on it? And do you think it'll have any trouble holding my 955 BE, 750HX and 4890 1GB? I'm coming from a NZXT Lexa-S case.

  • Sweet, I hope they didn't try to charge you or anything because that's their fault. As for my Antec 300, I drilled some cable management holes up around the 5.25" bay area for the 24 pin mobo connection to go through. I also drilled holes at the bottom right next to the PSU for the wires to go through and another hole right next to the HDDs.

As well as those parts, they're completely fine. If you have more than 3 or even 4 HDDs, then there may be an issue with the 4890. I have 3 and i'm fine.

  • Nice, thinking about grabbing an Antec 900 just because ;p Although the 300 is about $45 less. At most I'll have 2, but for the time being I just have a 1TB WD Black drive. How's the airflow in the 300? Case temps pretty good?

  • The 900(original) doesn't have dust filters at all because it was the first gaming case, but it comes with the 2 intake and 2 exhaust fans, leaving it up to you to get a side fan. But the 300 only has two exhaust fans (but has a dust filter on the front) leaving it up to you to get the last 3 fans of your choice. I have 3 HDDs (one of each caviar) a stock HIS 4870, HD capture card and an overclocked q9550 up to 3.4Ghz. Air flow is very solid, got 6 fans including the CPU and GPU. I'll PM the pic

  • You can check out my latest vid about my PC (a montage) to see how it looks with all my stuff.

I also forgot to mention that I have a modded front bezel and modded side panel. (I have two modded Antec 300's) The Dark Knight sadly didn't fit with the window that had two 120mm side fans with the sick mod Bill Owen did, so I've gone back to using my other modded side panel that just has a window. If you end up with multiple graphics cards, it'll be hard to have more than one HDD and look cramped..

  • What all do I need to know if I want to use this card. Current computer is Dell XPS 420.

  • You just need a pci-e x16 slot and one 1 pin pci-e power plug. Since the Dell XPS line used to be their gaming brand, I'll assume your power supply can handle a little card like this and that your motherboard has the slot for it. Just hope there's enough space I suppose.

  • Alright thanks.

  • what Camera did you use quality looks awesome

  • I used the Sony w290 back when I did this video. It's $199usd on Amazon. My newest videos are shot with the Canon HF200 video camcorder. My big investment ;P

  • can you install a new card on a normal comp (not custom made)

  • Yea of course, so long that you have the available slots and the necessary power from the PSU.

  • There's definitely enough wattage.. What's the brand and model number though? I don't know which amps belong to the 12v rail. the 9800gt shouldn't be using that much amperage anyway.. Not so sure what's going on.

  • I've got a 7800GT, it needs the 6 pin plug in the back of it from the PSU, which I don't have just yet.

If I put it in my pc, without plugging in 6 pin from PSU, will it still work ?

  • Either it will and it'll be very weak, or it won't show anything on screen at all. If you have molex adapters, you can use that.

  • Computer didn't even register that it was in slot.

Fan was going, but card wasn't.

    ._.

I'm getting a 6 pin cable soon, once I get it, should be sweet.

Til then I'm borrowing a 7300LE. Not great, but better than integrated. :)

  • Damn.. I guess it's if you have a higher end one that asks for two 6pins(or 6/8) and you plug into just one of them, I've heard it still powers up with picture. It's just that the card isn't as powerful since it's not getting the same wattage. But the 7800 only has one, so it needed that one slot filled. But hey, (almost) anything is better than integrated!

  • Mine isn't registering that it's in the slot either. I've been working at it all day.. If you have any luck it'd help me too. :D

  • You have the same card? You always need to have a power supply that can power it, along with the proper cables to give it the juice.

  • Nah I've got a 9800 GT factory OC'd from BFG tech.

I've got a 500 watt psu, And I've got the molex 6 pin. The card turns on and I can hear the fan spinning. But the computer doesn't recognize it.

  • I'm guessing either the card is busted, or you don't have enough amps on the 12v rail to properly power it.. What exact psu are you using? Maybe clearing the cmos could help the cause.

  • What do you need to know about the psu? I've got the link to where I bought it in my favorites. I'd really appreciate some help.

  • brand/model number would help, since links don't work here.

  • AC INPUT

    115V/230V - 60/50Hz

    500 watts

    30A 45A 18A 16A1A 0A 2.5A

  • lol i am from singapore! u are telling me in usd! lols sad nvm thx anyway. and by the way.... WTF SO EXPENSIVE? wad about 8800 gt

  • Google: usd in (whatever your currency is)

It's that easy. As for the 8800gt, you shouldn't pay any higher than $60 for it, even for a brand new one.

  • hey great video. but first how much does a very good graphic card cost? i want to buy a graphic card that are for games that have very powerful graphic so i can play with high settings. so can you tell me how much it cost for a very powerful graphic card cost?

  • There are video cards for all budgets. What is yours? (in USD) The current highest end card for Nvidia is the GTX295, at around $520USD on Newegg. Ati's highest end card is the 5970, at about $630USD. Convert that into whatever your currency is and that's how expensive these are. But just let me know how much you can spend and I'll give you the best in that price range.

  • Awesome work man, very detailed. I wanted to ask you something (if you got time) my pc is getting quite old and i wanted to upgrade it, i got around €400~ i got in mind these things: asus p5q, q8400, 4gb ram ddr3, well i dont need gpu, psu, optical drive, HDD they are almost new. What better upgrade would you recommend to use the money to the max? keep up the good work 5*

  • sorry i meant DDR2

  • Yea, and thanks!

  • What are your current computer's specs atm? The new Core i5 is really well priced. IMHO, I'd just save up and get parts that are much more worth the money. But for 400€ or 600$, if you're not going to order a new GPU, PSU, optical and HDDs, you should be well in range for a Core i5 750, 4GB of Gskill DDR3 and an EVGA p55. I don't think it's worth getting a new GPU because of the lack of interesting PC games that actually needs intense hardware. Hope you can actually get that stuff over there..

  • my current specs are; AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 3ghz, 2gb ram 667mhz, 9800gtx+ ASRock alive nf4g-dvi, 250gb samsung hdd, 550w green power psu. thanks for the fast reply John.

  • No prob, and yea the GPU is definitely in no need to be upgraded any time soon. But no, spending that much money for just a q8400, 800 or 1066MHz DDR2 RAM and p45 mobo. Where do you buy your PC parts because I just went on Amazon and basically looked at those three parts I mentioned that added up to almost 600$ (400€) Socket 775 (p45 mobos and core2quad cpu) is basically a dying socket, which is why I'm recommending if you can get the parts I said for good prices, go for it!

  • i found them on a site where the prices were the min possible, thx for the info with the cpu's and socket i wont buy anything now because its gonna be a waste of money then, anyways you cant be up to date with pc's its mission impossibe, 2 years for a pc is like 20 years for a car nowadays. Have a nice day :)

  • haha Aight man, it's really best hold out and get those newer socket CPU, mobo and RAM because it's faster, uses up less power and is well priced, pretty much what I paid for my stuff except Core i7 and Core i5 is way better than any C2 Duo or Quad.. Glad I was some help to you. Peace!

  • Thanks for making this vid, very informative and helpful since I will be installing a GPU soon and I've never done it before, haha.

  • No problem man. That's just the reason why I made it in the first place, to be helpful and informative to those who are curious about doing this themselves. If you need any other help, feel free to ask me.

  • Awesome computer dude how much you spend on your computer dude

  • A little over a grand, though it's worth is slowly going down with all the new parts coming out.. But yea, it's still some sick parts compared to what I had a year ago. (a Dell! lol)

Planning on selling my PC and building a new one soon though.

  • Why'd you get rid of the 4870?

  • I didn't; it's in another PC downstairs.

  • hey i m also want to change my old gpu in my laptop, its toshiba company. but i dont know how to open my laptop and where to find it, even i dont know how it looks like, to be very frank. if its possible for you then pls guide me.

  • Ah, sorry man, but you can't change the GPU of a laptop like you can of a desktop. At least I don't believe you can. I'm not exactly sure on this, but I think it's attached on to the motherboard or something like that. With laptops, when you decide to buy one, you have to really make sure you'll be fine with what you're getting because the only thing that's user upgradeable is the RAM. For desktops, anything can be upgraded and changed out easily. Sorry, but upgrading the GPU is impossible there

  • oh... is that so ..!!! by the way thanks mate. you are so kind that u answer everybody online. you are doing a very good work. one more think that i want to ask is my laptop's battery doesn't stay longer without charger. it merely keeps my laptop on for 40 to 50 min without charger. does that mean my battery life got end.. and it also becomes very hot from the bottom side. i dont know the reason y it happens both battery and heating problems. i know must have ideas what to do. thanks in advance

  • Yea, I think you need to get a new battery for your laptop and keep the old one as a backup. Sadly, those are pretty expensive from what I hear. As for it getting really hot, all laptops get really hot. They don't have good cooling at all, as everything is flat on the motherboard keeping the slim look of the laptop. So I'm glad to be of help, and helping people with their problems is what I enjoy doing here. So no matter what the question is, I encourage everyone to ask and I'll do what I can.

  • so i ordered gts 250 and i got a question when i am installing the new grpahic card do i have to remove the old drivers of my old graphic card

  • It would be best if you did, just so there aren't any conflicts between them. But it didn't really bother me when I didn't. So in some cases, you don't literally have to, it's just to make sure you're eliminating any chance of instability.

  • Alright I'm thinking of getting the GTS 250. First off I want to know is that once you take out your old card and put in the new one. Do you plug the monitor cable to the new card immediately after you installed the new card and boot up the computer? or do you plug the monitor cable to the mobo? Thanks

  • If you have an on-board video card and you're getting a dedicated one, you definitely do NOT use the one that's on the mobo. Infact, if you had a dedicated card to begin with, that you're about to replace, you shouldn't of been using the one on the mobo ever. But yea, you plug the monitor cable (DVI, VGA, HDMI, etc) to one of the two ports on the new GPU. I should've recorded showing the PC's back as well i guess.. After that, it looks funky because you have to install the drivers. Good luck!

  • Wow you helped so much! Thank you! One more question. Do you think this card will fit in a Hp Pavilion elite?

  • No problem. As for your question, the GTS250 is around 10 inches long and 4 inches wide. So whip out your ruler and check out how much space you have in there.

  • Wow it will fit! Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. Now I just need to find a good Power supply. Thanks again John.

  • Awesome, It shouldn't take much at all to power this guy up. Just get a good brand name 500w, from someone like Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, Thermaltake, Rosewill etc etc. They're a bit more pricier than others, but even if you're not paying for high wattage, you're paying for the good quality of the power supply you get. I mean unless you plan on building yourself an entire new gaming PC and recycle over the power supply and video card, you shouldn't really need that much wattage.

  • If you need more help, feel free to ask!

  • Is standard power supply okay for this card or do i need something special for a boost? and how do i know if it will fit in my a6700y model?

  • What's the a6700y? Gotta specify if that's a pre-made factory PC, or just the product number of a case.. And You'll need at least a really strong 450w or decent 500ish watt power supply. You can attempt to use the molex leads from your power supply and use the pcie to molex adapter that comes with the GTS250. If the PC doesn't power up properly, it's because there isn't enough power. A decent 500w from Corsair, Rosewill, OCZ, etc should do fine. Just make sure it has good amps on the 12v rail.

  • a6700y is my computer model number. I am buying a 500w power supply. I think I might buy the 9800gtx+ recertified though since I am 15 with no job and cannot get the like extra 50 bucks for the 250, but I love your review John

  • Crap.. thanks for enjoying it, but I really don't like getting recertified products, nor do I really recommend to anyone to get.. And it's rough wanting to get something and you know you can't get it because you're well short on cash.. 9800GTX+ from EVGA at least is more expensive than the GTS250 because of the warranty (lifetime vs 2 year)

9800gt isn't that bad though. How big is your monitor?

  • my monitor...23" lol :)

  • Damn, definitely can't play with the best settings with the 9800GT if you use the full resolution.. :/

Older games with be fine, but you'll have to mix and match settings with the newer games though, in order to get the best performance.

  • Oh by the way I was browsing Newegg and was wondering what you think of the 9600 series. I am curious because they are like 80 dollars with good rebates.

  • It's a pretty big jump in performance from the 9600 to a 9800GTX+.. Sucks they took it down though :/

Parents aren't willing to give you ANY money to help you get a good card? Because it's kinda dumb to spend $90-120 on a 9800GT when the GTS250 and 9800GTX+ is only $110-130 (for the 512MB versions) for $80-100 though, either a different branded 9800gt or a 4850/4770 from ATI is within that price range. The 9800GT from XFX is $107 on Amazon, free shipping. That's about the best I can do for you.

  • Nah my parents live the moto, you want it you earn it. But yeah since no job any more cannot get it. thanks for your help your really awesome !

  • NP man, but it sucks that they don't help at all though. I was running a Pentium 4 Dell with a 5600FX back when I was your age lol

  • I'm sure it's a little better than my old 8600GT, but if you care about running your games at the max resolution as well as the best settings, it's not going to be enough to do that for you. If you're fine with mix and matching the settings of the quality, then it's fine. You'll be happy with your purchase.

  • Thanks love the quick response!!!

  • My pleasure, hopefully you enjoy whatever you can get!

  • I have to say this.."enjoy whatever you can get!" Thats what she said

  • Just bought the 9800gt Free COD4 lmao

  • Any good power supplies between like 25 - 70 dollars for a 400w video card? Prolly a good 500w power supply.. lemme know thanks John

  • Rosewill or maybe OCZ. Corsair and PC Power&Cooling's PSU's are of better quality, but they're much more expensive. I got a 530w Rosewill PSU for my dad under $50

  • Hmm okay. Thanks!!

  • Holy crap the 9800gt I got in the mail today became a deactivated item on newegg today...wow im lucky

  • haha nice

  • Fuck! Newegg took the 9800GTX+ down, what other video card can I buy thats good pref 80-100 dollars or something. Damn newegg@!

  • what if i dont have a see though window on my case...can i still install a video card?

  • CHIZZLE IT OUT, CAVE MAN STYLE!

  • RMA that thing already... x]

  • lol Thom, I sent Newegg and EVGA each an email. Going to see what they have to say and I might even wait and step up to the GTX 260 c216 if I can get the lifetime warranty with it. (it's the AR model and my GTS 250 is a TR model)

  • Ah I see, gee gee, hope you ATLEAST get your money back.

Shit if this had been Norway, you would get a gtx295...

  • Do want D:

  • lol why did you re do it

  • Re-did the ending to show that if you have an internet connection, you should be using the latest Nvidia drivers from their website, rather than using the CD.

  • im asking this b4 i watched the whole video.

    what are your PC specs?

  • Ah, I'll update my profile to say it. check it in like 3 minutes.
