i have a question for whom ever has an answer, i am joining within the next year, and will be able to do the 14 month program and i am thinking about being a warrant officer. but the really only interest i have in flying are Kiowas and Apaches, so i really do want to be stuck flying blackhawks or something if i dont have that interest. is there a way for me to choose what chopper i fly or is it random?

Outlaw Troop were the bravest, badest, most skilled pilots I got to work with. I was a 13F with HWB/H Co. in OIF 1. Those guys did everything for us including pulling security from the air while we were trying to save one of our comrades from a tank accident and fire.

@tarkinfish THey're totally different roles. The Kiowa is only a Scout and on occasion a Medium Gunship, whereas the Apache is a full-on one.

Everyoen ogling at this thign dreams of being-or is-an Aero Scout, so no, not many people here do.

@tarkinfish damn dude. Apache is a different league of helicopter. Kiowa is more of a recon, small troop cas. Apache is an attack helicopter with shitload of laser guided missiles and other toys. This can be compared to little bird.

Was in Quickstrike 4/3 for OIF III. Always had a lot of support from Nomad, Outlaw, Pegasus, or Renegade. Got a few rides from Stetson. My favorite was always the OH-58. Wish I would have been able to get video. They are awesome. Flying below power lines, between the poles, or 10 feet over our heads all at 100 mph (or atleast WAY faster than our HMMWV's). US Army warrant officers are the best pilots! Enemy is terrified of them, we always feel better knowing you guys have our back. Brave Rifles!

@VV4000 That is not an RC Chopper. That is a full size OH58D Kiowa Warrior Scout. The dome-shaped structure on top of the rotors is a radar dome. The Kiowa Warrior Scout acts as both a light attack and scout helicopter for Apache Squadrons for both Tank Busting and Close Air Support.

The truck at 2:14 is a heavy expanded mobility tactical truck (HEMTT). Out of all the vehicles in the Army it supposed to have the most acceleration. It can beat a HUMVEE in a race easy. On the top it's been modded, to make it a gun truck, unless they come like that now???

Yep. The Kiowa Warrior wasn't used during Desert Storm, just the Kiowa.

Of coarse Pilots carry M4s, read In The Company of Heroes. Guess what happens when you crash??? Nobody wants to be POW.

Actually, they recently canned the ARH for the Active Army, some of the National Guard units got them. Too bad, it was a great helicopter before the Army decided it needed A/C.

Usually, it's considered pretty stupid to fly along roads as this is an easy helo locator for enemy surface units buried among other traffic. I'm also curious as to why the AH-64Ds now fly with Marine style greys and no MMR yet OH-58s doing largely the same aircav security mission (with dumb FFAR and guns) are still 'black helicoptered' in OD with the MMS mounted. I would think you couldn't afford the skylined exposure or performance hit.
