Well, to state anything like that "matter-of-fact", is never a good idea. Even phd's will say, "We believe..." or "We theorize....". No one knows how AIDS began or when it came into contact with humans. The only thing we CAN say is that cancer is found in dinosaur bones. We don't know if AIDS has always been around or not. I say 40-60 because approx. 40 years ago the first case was reported, however the disease has a latency period of about 20 years in the most extreme cases, give or take a few years. So patient zero could've been infected and contagious twenty years prior to showing symptoms.

And as for strange, you can get AIDS from toilet seats; it's extremely unlikely and rare, but possible.

Calling them "living" is very controversial. They aren't encased in their own cells and don't have their own metabolism, they rely on a host organism. Most biologists, in the US at least, don't consider virus living things.

And a virus can be destroyed, but they put their genetic material in another host organism and it is often hard to target the virus without hurting the host. We still have parts of virus genetic material in our DNA from 10,000s of years ago.

AIDS cannot be stopped by those means. Many people in places like Africa don't understand the disease and have no hope for ridding their countries of it. A huge fraction of their populations are infected, and many don't show symptoms. These people need to be educated and need proper medical attention and screening for the disease. I believe in God as well, but I don't think he wants us to be so judgmental towards these people and act like it's their fault they're ill.

I don't think abortion is an acceptable option under most circumstances (excluding if the mother was raped and may die from giving birth), and yes, some peoples' sexual habits aren't what I'd call intelligent practices. However, I don't think of sex as that big of an issue. The underlying root to these problems is either ignorance or, less commonly, apathy.

Africa is important b/c it represents more than 4/5 of the AIDS cases worldwide.

By the looks of it all those thousands of people where split up into 2 groups. In the vaccinated group 51 people got infected and in the other non vaccinated group just 74 people got infected. If there was thousands of people getting infected on both groups then it could make a valid experiment but a few tens in each group? That can't draw any conclusions at all.

All that it takes is just a few people having sex with an HIV positive person from one group of like 8000 to ruin the results.

Sometimes propaganda is a GOOD thing. You're right, We need more conclusive research. And that takes community support. And money. A statistic is not conclusive evidence. It could be the people willing to get two vaccines were more wary of the dangers of HIV. Conclusive evidence is understanding the biology and dynamics of the disease, and how it's prevented. Not these shots in the dark.
