I thought it was "Heart of oak are our ships, Jolly tars are our men" but then I was never in the Grey Funnel Line. And what's all that stuff about "Rum, sodomy and the lash"? I never learned to play the guitar either - so will withdraw gracefully!
Thanks for psoting, means a lot, I've just been medically retired from Royal Navy so I miss hearing this sort of thing daily. I'll maybe march again one day. :-)
@katmac75 I hope you do so. I myself suffered a serious back problem 7 years ago and for a short spell was paralysed from the waist down. Fortunately the underlying problem, a slipped disc, settled down and I regained the use of my legs and nowadays as you will see if you look at some of my photo videos, I walk for pleasure twice a week between 4 and 7 miles.
Very stirring. And this coming from a yankee, not a son of the waves. I think I'll try to memorize the lyrics, and sing them to myself, to help me get through my heavy laden and back breaking work. "Steady Boys, Steady".
2 people won't be adding anything to this wonderful year.

@TheRunereaper As with most folk songs there are variant lyrics to be found, so your Jolly tars are our men may well be in one of those.
I don't understand your reference to "Rum, sodomy and the lash" though?

@elasolezito Thank you for your kind comment. As you say, it is reminiscent of that song, both being patriotic songs from about the same period.
