  • i think parents should definently contribute to their child's education.. for example, they should pay for it, instead of forcing me to

  • Bristol has specials needs.

SHe needs a big fat hockeystick up her wazoo.

  • A thoughtful, and thought-provoking speech that demonstrates that this woman talks the talk and walks the walk. She will make a great VP--go Sarah!

  • Why can't this problem be handled like the private market?

Notice the red suit and the rouge on her face. Notice the redistributive goal of having parents without handicapped children pay for the education of children with special needs.

This woman is clearly a communist.

  • For someone from a family of teachers, she does not seem very supportive of education.

  • Is this a sermon or a policy speech?

  • Is Fox News reporting on this?

ANCHORAGE, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's signature accomplishment — a contract to build a 1,715-mile pipeline to bring natural gas from Alaska to the Lower 48 — emerged from a flawed bidding process that narrowed the field to a company with ties to her administration, an Associated Press investigation shows.

    Don't think so!

  • I agree. This mindless Palin bashing is really ugly. Wow - liberal anger is out in full force this year. It was liberals that used to make fun of conservatives for being angry and having no sense of humor.

  • I give Palin credit for at least raising this issue and putting forth some general policy proposals. Let's not be so narrowminded that we deride everything she does.

  • She mocked funding basic research for the very issues she claims to support. It is not "narrow-minded" to deride ignorant idiocy.

She is a moron who begs for derision every time she opens her mouth.

  • Criticism is fine. It is ONE-SIDED cricism that is the problem. Obama talks in generalities that are usually devoid of any specifics and has no record of actually accomplishing anything. I assume you support Obama, but can you name just 2 examples of: 1) A significant Obama accomplishment; OR 2) A major issue on which Obama took a strong stand, thereby risking his popularity; OR 3) A significant issue on which Obama reached across the aisle to work with Republicans to solve an issue?

  • 1. 1) First black man ever to win a nomination for president 2) Nuclear weapons anti-proliferation treaty 3) Legislation to put congressional budgets on internet.

    2. Opposing a war in Iraq that if successful would have made him look like just another soft liberal.

    3. See above on nuclear antiproliferation.

Now question for you. In this program palin proposed 45$ billion of funding. Will that $ come only from families with special ed. kids? If no, isn't that a redistribution of $?

  • Nice try:

    1) Being black is an "accomplishment?"

    2) He opposed the Iraq war in THEORY as a nobody Illinois State Senator. If Obama had been a US Senator at the time, he would have voted for the war because he is so cautious and unwilling to take strong standsw. heck he even voted for FISA Surveillance Bill.

    3) The rest is basic stuff.

WHEN HAS OBAMA EVER TAKEN A STRONG STAND ON A CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE? ANSWER: NEVER.

  • I answered your questions. But I guess my answers weren't good enough for you...not a surprise.

I would have liked to have seen you answer my question.

Isn't spending 45$ billion on retards' education a redistribution of wealth since some of that money must come from people without retarded children?

Also a related question: is education socialism? Why can't we let the free market take care of the education system?

  • Those were weak answers and more talking points than answers. The answer is that Obama's record is devoid of significant accomplishment, devoid of any serious attempt to reach across the aisle and devoid of taking courageous stands on tough issues.

Of course some elements of our society are somewhat "socialistic." I agree that unfettered capitalism is bad. McCain would agree.

Also, the term "retard" is an ugly one that should not be used. It's like calling the disabled "stupid people."

  • You're either to the right of both candidates, or you're so heartless you're willing to mock and ridicule special needs children to advance a partisan agenda.

  • Or I have a different interpretation of the word retard.

I use it to connote people who are retarded.

It would be heartless for me to call a stupid person retarded because that uses the word as an insult instead of a purely scientific label.

No one's mocking or ridiculing retards. I agree with the Gov's plan and view on this issue.

But her means for implementing it are profoundly hypocritical.

Retard is not like the n word. THe n word is originally an insult. I will continue to say it.

  • The anger from liberals is so palpable that they cannot stand to give credit to Palin for anything she does. This speech may not have been perfect, but how many national politicians have even TRIED to give a speech on Special Education?

  • How many times have you changed your mind based on a life experience. Why don't you respect the woman.

  • It saddens me greatly that she went this route. Hypocrisy at it's best Mrs. Palin. Cut all spending, but plead to vulnerable special needs parents.

As a Special Education teacher I know that across the board school vouchers do not work, they stretch schools with great programs way too thin and do not provide enough support for schools to build up their special education programs.

  • this idiotic moronic lady will say anything 2 win. seems like she cant speak w/o making a gaffe. shes talkin abt helpin children with special needs & then mocks an extensive research that is geared towards solving d issue of autism! her voice alone is irritating. so where exactly is d money 4 all this wonderful proposals goin 2 come 4rm since Mccain keeps talkn abt a spending freeze? hahaha Bloody LIARS!

  • Its a stretch to say she pushed for any policy improvements. Though Palin did sign a law increasing special education funding in Alaska, she had no role whatsoever in its development, according to the bills author, Rep. Mike Hawker (R). Moreover, as governor, Palin vetoed $275,000 in Special Olympics Alaska funds (Page 100, SB 221 with vetoes), slashing the organizations operating budget in half.

  • special Olympic funding is completely different than special education

  • "Its a stretch to say she pushed for any policy improvements. Though Palin did sign a law increasing special education funding in Alaska,"

She only did that after her Down's Syndrome son was born. Prior to that she had cut the sp ed budget by 62%.

  • No offense...her intentions are very good, but what the hell is she planning on doing when McCain freezes all program spending?

  • she sounds like shes gonna cry lol

  • Great Speech! It would be so nice to see these changes come to pass.

  • There is so much about this woman that is just completely wrong. Her attitudes toward native Alaskans is particulary disturbing.

  • Riiiiiight...you do know Todd is an Alaska Native, don't you? A bit hard to reconcile with being a racist.

  • "Riiiiiight...you do know Todd is an Alaska Native, don't you? A bit hard to reconcile with being a racist."

Distantly. There are many people in this country to claim distant ancestry to native americans but they sure as hell do not consider themsellves native americans. What does Todd Palin out on applications and other documents? I will bet he puts "caucasion".

  • Sarah Palin is an exceptional idiot.

  • Sarah, a question for you. Prior to your special needs child being born your state budget for special needs was decreased by 62%. All of a sudden after his birth your budget reflects a huge increase. What would that be all about?

  • This is her second year as governor. Her first year budget was inherited from Murkowski. She knew Trig had special needs before the end of her own first year. Nice try.

  • Sarah, sorry to tell you this but Drosophila research is extremely important in the research of autism. By trivializing it and making jokes about you made yourself look really ignorant, AGAIN! Creationists tend to do that because of their such low opinion of science. Just what we need in a time when this country needs to emphasize science, a VP who is a science moron.

  • She is exceptional. McCain/Palin 08

  • Thanks for posting this! The disgraceful media coverage makes it virtually impossible to find out what she is actually trying to accomplish.

  • mccain/palin and Trig 08

  • Only 460 views so far. Every person in America should see this. What she is saying is very important.

  • Special Educators for Obama! Of course . . .

  • Wow. She can't even talk about special needs children without the Obama tax lie.

  • no lie..only truth which you push out of your mind.

  • Wow.Impressive.

  • Just one more very important reason to vote for Palin! Special Educators for McCain/Palin!

  • McCain/Palin 08!

    Hillary 08!
