I also took every class at University of Southern Indiana that had the words drugs, alcohol, society, and human behavior. In all these years,, I have not seen one case of psychosis or anything similar induced by LSD, DMT, etc. On the other hand, over 400,000 ppl die annually from cigarettes and over 100,000 deaths annually are due to tobacco.

I see you got Inner Paths to Outer Space there - my top favored book on the whole DMTesc experience. Daniel Pinchbeck speaks a lot about Jungian archetypes, especially in his 206 book 2012. In DMT The Spirit Molecule I find a few accounts that do seem to be truly trans-personal. And about are ancestors encountering archetypes or aliens via indigenous substances: I think perhaps substances may not have been required, but instead an anomaly in consciousness. But, like you said: who knows?

ancient South American cultures were all fans of psychedelics, and tribes in the rain forest have obviously been using for aeons. Egypt I'm not sure about, but some of the rituals related to the state religion could have possibly been designed to trigger a release of endogenous DMT as a result of intense meditative states. that's purely speculation and everything, but I wouldn't be totally surprised.
