@Footietekkers 100% wrong the tempo back in the day was allot faster the openness of the field was more dynamic have you seen some of the tackles that Maradona has had thrown at him its hard to justify who would do well in what period's but i highly doubt Messi would last a whole season in the 70s & 80s because the tackling and mentality of game was insane but i agree because theres allot more competitions for teams to compete having an athletic build is top priority
