Unbelieveble maybe the best song ever made.?!!!!!? is it strange babe and such a lonely way.The people around me seemd so glad to be here. Will my time pass so slowly till the day that I fear.?
@electriccolony Question is, if New Order were such good friend's of Ian Curtis, why would he hang himself and destroy all they had built? Some friends, huh? Seems Ian wanted to get away from it all, and hence his baaaaaand!!! Ouch time, guys! Listen to The Eternal, and the line, "with children my time is so wastefully spent", and remember, he spent MOST of his time with New Order!!!! Whoopsie!
Certainly not their worst, but again certainly not their best. It has a bit of a hollow sound to it. Ive heard the new york 1981 gig version of this and i think it sounds way better, the drums especially
@madcapoperator Tell me, you genius hipster, what is better than Movement, other than the singles released around the same time? What, Power Corruption and Disco Bullshit, is better? Or maybe you think Lowlife-apt title- rivals Movement? Could you be one of those "fans" sputtering nonsense in the face of Martin Hannett and New Order's masterpiece?
@kidcresh From what you've just said I believe it is you who are the hipster...But yeah those albums you mentioned I do actually preffer to movement. As I said it has a hollow sound to the album but the peel sessions of certain movement songs are the way it should have been done: still atmospheric but not so tinny. Sorry I don't praise everything by the alleged all mighty that is Mr Hannett...
I think the first N O album is totally underrated!!! This is definitely in my Top 3 of N O albums!!! Especially this song is one of the best they ever made without Ian...
I love Movement because the mood on the album is almost darker than JDs' stuff. The feeling of death and pain is everywhere on this album, its really powerful stuff, almost hard to listen to sometimes.
When I first began listening to Movement once I decided to listen to New Order's material beyond Blue Monday and True Faith, this and Senses were the two songs I was most engaged by. The use of the melodica and drum machine is just brilliant. Probably the most revealing of their early tracks lyrics-wise. I believe it not only eludes to the aftermath of Ian's suicide, but to the death of others close to Bernard, who says he experienced a lot of death and illness in the family as a youngster.
turn it up please my wine gone my swell a response to emotion! Thanks for uploading I love this album all the way through as it should be listened to !
29 years on and i still whistle this track when bored at work, along with Ceremony,In a Lonely Place,Love Vigilanties,Your Silent Face etc etc...........the best fucking band ever
@TheJokerIsDead In the New Order documentary Bernard admitted that they, he, wanted to reach a larger audience and to make some money. They did an Sunkist commercial for $200,000 and never looked back. It's too bad that a lot of artist go that route. So, see the acts early in their career before it's too late.
@TheJokerIsDead Dude you have hit the nail on Ian's coffin with those comments! Movement is pure Hannett genius and EVERYBODY knows what garbage followed:Temptation, Blue Monday, ad nausea!!!! Blesss you man for speaking up for the dark production genius-Hannett-who gave us Closer and ALL JD's numbers, a true labor of love at that!!!
JD a hard act to follow, believe me,I've seen and heard them live,I was at Erics, seen New Order a few times, saw Joy Division at Eric's in Liverpool, don't matter really,I did,a lot of you didn't,I'm privileledged, you missed out on one of Englands finest, long live IC,one of our green and pleasant lands finest
if you dont like this album....then you really have a lot to answer to,this track is so missed by so many people!all you need is ears!just listen eh..its not hard peeps.......its mint!and its timeless!
@punkidjulian The writing for the album was a group collaborative, with some exceptions. The producer was Martin Hannett. He developed the trademark "sound" for the later JD albums
This is an amazing, dark album. Its darker than anything Joy Division did, seeing as Ian Curtis was dead and buried as they recorded this. Its a shame New Order disowned the amazing gothic sound they developed during this album. It would have been a treat to see them develop along these lines, instead of getting techno'ed out like they did.
Back in the days on JD no one was naming their sound 'gothic' by the way. It's a shame yes: that most 'fans' never understand their idols, 'cause the later are simply artists and so they explore other directions.
I completely agree. I cringe every time I read the "reviews" and how most people seem to dismiss this album as NO's worst. This is by far my favorite and had NO kept this sound, I can only imagine how great they could've been. (Even better than they actually turned out to be).
nope. lol. Dude, this pales in comparison to what NO did later! You're being way too subjective. What NO did later on was revolutionary and visionary. Nevertheless, this album is still a masterpiece.
karziflora, you`re right. I loved JD at the time, and equally loved NO. I`ve always looked at movement as the last JD album, even though (obviously) Curtis wasn`t there in body.
They already had their dose of 'dark' release, they are also Joy Division mind you, now you gonna tell artists what to do? You're obviously not one. Most great artist change direction and try new and different things. Even 'Blue Monday' was ahead of its time but most of the 'fan' scene back then dismissed it.
i always though NO reached their peak with the peel sessions 82 release...

New Order's purgatory - stuck between darkness and light unsure of their identity. Yet still brilliant in all the confusion.

best New Order album period. Timeless classic. Mabye Ian stayed a while around them in spirit. It's as brilliant as anything Joy Division put out.
