Re: Soccoblog- All valuable input. The Private Lessons are aimed to teach players what they can do at home, mainly. They would use zero pressure to be comfortable expressing themselves, and then pull them out in training when they should perform.
The distance is big, I agree there. Great feedback about doing shorter sets to keep it fresh.
Overall, this drill seems to be just tiring out the kid and letting him practice in a none game like way that cannot be suddenly improved upon when he faces a real defender at real speed in a real game.
Instead, shorten the distance that he has to run. Have him complete 5 reps, take a break and then go again with 5 more. Have a defender instead of cones, let him decide if he shoots high or low, give him a goal to aim for, he gets a reward if he beats the defender and scores 2 goals
3. Moves to beat the defender cones are not realistic, again not quick or sharp enough, would never beat a defender
4. Why do you want him to finish "in the air?"
5. Why not have a real defender building up resistance to game like defending instead of a couple of cones? If no one is available, you can be the defender.
6. His moves such as scissors etc were poorly executed, what did you as a coach do to help him do them better?
Seriously....hopefully your not charging this kid and his family. Know where your expertise lies...as it is not here.

If you are closer to him as he does the drill, you can quickly step in, show him how to do it better, then quickly step out again.
Hope this feedback helps!

OK, here is my feedback:
1. The distance between the starting cones and the "defender" cones is too large, all you are doing is tiring the kid out.
2. The approach to the defender cones is not game like, not quick enough, wouldn't work in a game
