  • JD was the Star of NRPS,It's like losing an old friend

  • RIP Marmadude.

  • How did John die? I lost touch with him in the late 70's.

  • I understand it was stomach cancer. There's some more info and a link back to this video from his page at the Lasting Tribute website

  • R.I.P. thank you John for so much, I know you are finally free of pain.

  • Does anyone remember the bomb scare at the Capitol in Port Chester? After clearing out the theater, they declared it a free concert. I saw Pig standing outside the backstage door not beleiving what was going on. One of the best concerts ever! ( I was around 13 or 14)

  • I was there! What I would give to have a taste of that again.

  • I saw the nrps so many times, my neighbor was a roadie for them for awhile. The capitol shows were the best!!!!

  • hell yeah! John is rocks.

  • marmaduke......so hap happy to see you brother!!!!!!! thank you !! the hippies

  • Yea Duke, you rule. thanks Rider rob

  • God loves McDuke!

    So do I.

  • I'm 41 and didn't miss the era. I deseeded weed for the gang at age 3 in Cali. Cool stuff.

  • One of my 1st concerts was winter of '72 or '73....Boston Garden, the Grateful Dead fronted by New riders....utterly awesome ! I've seen the New Riders at Lewiston (ME) youth center also. Thanks for the post.

  • this video is great but do you have the whole song ??

  • 1st NRPS show for this 55 y.o. was at the Port Chester Theater(NY) -- July 1969. Show started at midnight with Dead acoustic set, followed by New Riders, followed by Dead electric set...total concert was 6 hours!!

  • I was probably right behind ya.. 54 and originally from Stamford, CT. Capitol Theatre has a lot of great memories for me.

  • I saw them in '71 or '72.Same thing.New Riders played for about 2 hours and the Dead 4.I got wasted, passed out, woke up, and still had a whole concert to go!

  • Nice to know there are others like me who appreciated that special time in our lives....and what the music did for us! (hit of orange sunshine anyone??) lol

  • I've heard about those Port Chester Dead shows- and I think I've heard bits of one of them on tape.

So they did go on for 6 hours? And what variety in those shows- the Dead's acoustic Americana flowing into the New Riders country tinged hippie, and then the excursion into psychedelic land. One of the glories of the Dead was how comfortable they were, whether playing Casey Jones or Dark Star. By the way, did Garcia play with the New Riders that night?

  • Yes , this is heady stuff.. thanks to whoever put this up. I'm 47 and missed the dawson era, but am a big fan-- great seeing marmaduke back, sober and healthy..oreo in ct.

  • seeing marmaduke on stage with the touring band he approved of has to make one smile!

  • THANKS A MILLION mudshark! Shows like this, and the appearance of MK make that move to west coast all worth while eh? Miss ya bud. Rich.
