A few things: 1) Green Day are a one-trick pony. They have two great songs, and have not evolved one bit since Dookie. I Walk Alone is sophomoric and boring. 2) Van Halen copied the Kinks, not the other way around. 3) Van Halen is just one of a few thousand or so bands who have copied the Kinks.

well, sortof..its proto-metal. The kinks turned their amps up to overload levels to make themselves heard above the screaming fans that they attracted in the wake of the Beatles initial impact.

They and other bands (like the who and yardbirds) did the same thing...discovered the sound was pleasing..it gave power and dynamics..devices were manufactured to artificially distort the sound even more..and this set the route to proper metal by the end of the decade.

And of course - The Kinks are not one of them because they were famous all over the world.
