dude gotta take it to the redline atleast, thats what kills ur accel. time. i got a 99 sport and the only work ive done to mine is im running open heads, and im getting high 8's or low 9's. still not too bad tho
A good dragster has low max Tq or have really high stall Tq Conv. to get up to tq curv. Instead of powering through the dead spot to get to it, you would be starting at your max Tq already. But that only aplies to automatic's. But then it wouldnt be suitible for every day driving.
If you want it to take off fast from a dead start theres 2 ways to the amount of time to get into your power band. Either put lower gears, or a high stall Tq converter in the tranny.
The thing is with these 3.9's is that all there power is mid to high range. It's not until 3,200 rpm's that you hit it's max Tq220 and not until 4,300 rpm's you hit it's max Hp175. Even though mine has the power to spin from take off they are pretty slow untill about 2,500 rpm's were it starts to get into it power band. The 3.9's are screamers They make good track motors since you dont really go below 3,000rpm's when track racing.
My 96 Dakota 4x4 ext cab does it in 9.6 seconds. Thats with an automatic, 31x10.5r15 tires, & 4.10 gears. Now if I had the stock tires like your sport, I figure it would be about 8 seconds flat.
@156TYSON My 03 V6 dakota sxt does too...but only if i shift just right...bear in mind it has fairly wide10" tread & a limited slip, sure grip or whatever mother mopar calls it nowadays (i think it depends on the supplier of the rearends at a given time, which can be different?) So thats alot to ask of a V6 to at least chirp in 3rd i'd say. It does have 3:55 gears. Motor is all stock. Suspension i've added an R/T sway bar is all. My lil 3.9 got plenty of power i'm impressed.
I didn't hear any wheel-spin at all. Not to offend you but that 0-60 really sucked ass.I counted 13 seconds! Is your truck a heavy quad cab with 4 wheel drive?
ok cus i wanted to do that to my 93 ill just take the rear end from a 4x4 dakota. You should make a new one with the pavement dry. Nice truck by the way
thanks; there are other vids of it; like the exhaust, you should check them out, neways; the gen 1 body style is the best because they are light weight, but they are only good if you have the magnum versions. and there is also a vid of me doing a burnout on dry pavement
I had to put in a whole new rear end, and when i did i got a used one from a junkyard, i dunno what it came out of, I just asked them to get me a 12 bolt dodge rear end with a 3.92, thats how. I'm running a Zoom Clutch, i'm just not dumping it cuz when I filmed this the roads were wet.
i like! i just got an 04 3.9 5spd and its a pretty mean little truck...quick question i want my dakota to have a deep rumble to it and not get to loud, any tips on which exhaust to get?
i would get a flowmaster super 44 if i were you, but the only good way to get the "rumble" is to remove the cat. i did, all it did was throw my check engine light, but they make a bypass for he rear oxygen sensor. so if you live in a state like that doesnt do emissions testing, then thats the way to go
so far parts that I've gotten that werent too hard to find are things like, gibson headers, 3inch front 4 inch rear lowering kit, i have a 3.92 rear gearing with a 12 bolt rear end out of a durango so it has bigger drums too. I also managed to put a 10inch edelbrock air filter (the big rounds ones off of muscle cars) on it since it has the vertical throttle body that is the same size as a carburettor and it doesnt have a mass air flow sensor so completely removed the stock setup.
96 3.9 and i shift mine at about 5 and it hauls ass, its deceivingly quick for what people think of it which is how i win some money

lol my stock 3.9 runs way better than this he hits 60 in 3rd i can run 80-85 in 3rd. i know these trucks run better than this
djwains1 1 day ago
@djwains1 you can run 80 in third with a 3.21 gearing, good luck doing that with a 3.92
