this bit is the saddest bit because 1 he burrys her under their tree and 2 the birds fly far far away like about 30 mins into the movie when she says please god make me a bird and let me fly far far away
I cry at this part everytime I cant stop crying when i see this part and when you watch the whole movie then get this part i die... my sister and i once watched this movie together we have already seen it a million times but we still cried sitting next to each other crying hard... tom hanks makes this movie amzaing i cant see any other person playing this role thannk god he did
"idk if we each have huh destiny or if we yall just floatin around accidentle like on a breez but i think maybe its both maybe both is happening at da same time" I like dat alot its preety dope..ha ya dats preety dope
One of the major reasons why this scene stands out from most other sad scenes is the utter innocence that Forrest gives off during the scene. It's treated as if Jenny is still there in a way (with Jr giving a letter to her and Gump saying for her to call him if she needs anything), which in a way, she is. She is still in Gump's heart, as well as her son's, which along with the lesson in life, makes this scene utterly heartbreaking.
@94msueng In the movie she says when she was a kid, she used to pray "Dear god, please make me a bird so I can fly far far away from here.." ... so I think thats a pretty good indication that her prayer was finally answered :)
It's the father and son moments that get me every time. If I have a son, im going to make damn sure we taking a fishing trip. Have the father-son bonding I never got.
This speech is a rare speech that actually ties the whole movie together without being plodding or annoying. Not only is he grieving with the loss of his love, and his mother, and bubba (we see him at 2 graves and the third with his mother is implied strongly) he is grappling with the concept the movie is grappling with.
Do we have a destiny or are we floating around accidental-like on a breeze. Forrest's answer "BOTH" makes the whole movie make sense.
it also explains the opening credits scene with the floating feather. the feather seemed to be just fluttering and meandering along randomly. But was it really just an accident, just blind luck that it ended up landing right at Forrest's old shoes?
@4863440 Wow 80 thumbs up! :-O But yeah, I always thought the feather is floating around accidental like but it never ever leaves the frame....sort of like randomness within a framework. I may be reaching on that one though :)
the birds @ the very end reminds him of jennys prey to be a bird. - fuck i cried...

I feel so awful for Jenny that she had such a hard life and finally turned around at the last moment. At least she knew Forrest Gump.

Tom Hanks is the only actor that could have portrayed this role to such an extent to win an Oscar. One of the greatest performances I've ever seen.
