USA rank 2nd because of the 2004 FLUKE. It undeniable that the basketball skill level of the world has grown since '92. Kudos to them, but USA is the best in the world when the best players are sent. 2004 was a fluke and a bad mix of players were sent. Any team that is led by Marbury, Iverson, Jefferson (60% of the 5 on the court), you know those players don't give you the best chance to win.

The 14 american cups only South American countries are allowed to participate. You think Argentina would've still won 14 if Europe was allowed to participate? Dont think so. But since you want to include tournaments where only "inner continent" countries are allowed I'll go ahead and include USA's 8 America's cup in basketball. Not to mention the soccer olympics only under 23 age players are allowed.
