  • awful audio output.

regardless of the value of the live version.

  • they put up .. at the beginning .. Charlie is a slew of pace and jageer not entered into the rhythm but I soon came out of the slip .. I like this slip .. interesting how they go ... where are the musicians in Leeds?

  • TERRIBLE. Not a patch on the real 2 versions.

  • yep.... amazing that they can ruin their own tune

  • Bloody AWFUL live version of my fave Stones song & such a bitter disappointment that hardly warranted posting.

  • i dont think ive ever heard a bad vrsion of this best rock&roll band ever

  • As matter of fact this is not the best version....... will find find a better one somewhere out there.

    Long life to the Stones!

  • Best effin' band to EVER grace this earth!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting!

  • What happened to the original studio version of this classical song on youtube???

  • Not a great version, but great to see them mix it up a bit.

  • no johnny winter that's for sure

  • THE STONES...There's been better singers than Mick, better guitar players, drumers, bassplayers than any of them. Combined though they make the best band ever. Amazing how many great songs they've wrote and lots of good covers. More amazing is they might not be what they once were, but still going and GREAT.

  • @Natalie78644 I've always said the same. Keith isn't Hendrix, Page or Pete Townsend. Bill's not JP Jones or John Entwhistle. Charlie's not Moon or Bonham, but they weren't trying to be they just were the best as a band. Although I love The Who, Led Zeppelin and Pink floyd too, I just don't listen to them much any more, most of the Stones music is timeless for me.

  • I knew I had heard a better live version of Stray Cat Blues from that era, than the Milan 1970 set, so I am guessing you are right that it must have been the Leeds 1971 concert ... either way its still a great track ... As far as the Stones are concerned, unfortunately it is the 2000's and not the 1970's and one cannot turn back the clock nor reverse the ageing process ... unless maybe through genetic engineering they could clone a young version of Mick Taylor! ... lol

  • I hate to dampen the enthusism of the poster but stunning this is not ... truly this is a rather mediocre renditon of a real Stones classic from Beggar's Banquet ... Listen to the Milan bootleg from 1970 (even better than the Ya Ya's version from 69) and despite the patchy quality of the recording you will get a totally different feeling about this song .. Mick Taylor's superb lead guitar and the interplay with Keith's melodic rythym, Jagger's raw vocals, the whole sound is infinitely better.

  • honestly Leeds 71 beats the shit out of Milan 1970 (horns were wonderful back then and added new dynamic to the song), but it's 00s not 70s anymore.. ;)

  • @Amus3d Agreed, Leeds is far better. Paris '03 is worth checking out- well played and closer to the original arrangement.

  • @matt88008 - I agree. Wood and Richards can't pull it off like Taylor and Richards did in the 69 tour.

  • Yeah, not a good version of this song. Listen to the version on Ya Ya's and compare. Mick doesn't even attempt the high parts on this version posted, not only that but why are a bunch of pianos, keys, and backup singers doing in the song? That's not rock and roll. The Stones need to get rid of these extra singers and keyboard players and just strip down to a hard raw rock band like in the late 60's up until the mid 70's. Uggg this version sucks!

  • You're an idiot and you don't know what Rock n' Roll is. No piano or horns? Are you fuckin' high? Little Richard? Jerry Lee Lewis? Fats Domino? Elvis? Chuck Berry? Besides, the Stones have been around so long and contributed so much to the form that whatever they decide is Rock n' Roll is Rock n' Roll. But you are right about this version, they fucked it up at the beginning, but after they get back on track it sounds pretty good.

  • Excellent. Thank you for noting the first great rock 'n' roll artist, Mr. Richard Penniman, aka Little Richard. I've listened to Little Richard for 47 years. It blows my mind that Long Tall Sally, Rip It Up, Ready Teddy, Keep a Knockin' aren't known by all. Piano and saxes were the main instruments, with sax soloing. Amazing. Had Little Richard been on Chess and Mr. Berry been on Specialty, we'd be discussing Mr. Bobby Keys and Mr. Keith Richards' dynamic interplay and grand texture of sound.

  • This is from Cirkus, Stockholm 22nd July 2003.

  • stunning?

    can you hear?

  • Well, the timing is certainly off at first. Anyone can hear that. Nothing personal, but definitely not "stunning". If you like this, perhaps you should listen to the ya ya's out and the interplay between Keef and Mick Taylor. Now that is fine music. I'm sure you will notice the difference.

  • It's great after they got back on beat.

  • its chalie's mistake

  • It's Charlie's fault that Mick came in at the wrong time?

  • maybe you are right, it depends if you count 4 or 8 after keith starts... hope you know what im saying

  • ....ooops

  • Great song anyway... but you should remember that a cell phone is not a recording studio !

  • maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, rollingo stones.... johnny what????

  • YOU have NO ear for music putz....!!!! This version SUCKS- I can't stand to listen to even a quarter of it!!!

  • Great song - one of my RS fav :-) - but very poor version this one.

    Anyway thank you for posting

    -Fabio

  • after the fuck up in the beginning its fine they probably had monitor problems its happenes all the time, thanks for posting this i cant find any versions of stray cat blues anywhere!!!

  • This is just terrible. Just exactly when does the song begin?

  • I was watching this show ,standing in the middle of comerica park in detroit one summer evening and it came to me like a freight train thru the temple. there is no live stones without Mick Taylors supurb guitar work and the stones have been milking their heyday for 35 years.very sad. this version sucks! and I am an old stones freak dating back to the brian jones days. theyre a skeleton of their old selves.

  • Ok not great.. I love this on Ya Ya's..

They are still #1 in my book seen them live many times and they rock 99% of the time!!

  • No no this lost the raw feel it has on Beggars Banquet. Is it just me or are the Stones starting to sound the same over and over again? They dont play the songs like they used to...all the guitars sound like they want to play Start me Up

  • agreed. they need someone to look over their kits... there are young bands now that sound more like the stones than the stones do.

  • this IS a capital crime...the quality is a hangin' matter.......

  • Mick clearly fu**ed this one up. He came in late and you could tell the band was thrown off, trying to get back together. But they got back on track.
