@MrMattaoe Look free soloing is more than just climbing. ive free soloed 5.9 routes that were two pitches. Im a 5.12 trad climber so 5.9 is well in my comfort level. But when your on the rock and off the deck with no ropes you really start to feel alive. It is very mental not climbing qwith ropes. Will I do it again yes. I free solo alot these days. But I still only attempt routes I know and routes well below my skill level. I love free soloing but I doubt ill ever free solo a 5.12

First, there is nothing free about this solo. It's a speed solo, for sure. Second, this is recreated footage. If you're trying to ascend a route as fast as possible, a cameraman will just slow you down and get in the way.  But yes, Dean Potter is still an amazing climber and athlete. I wonder how long it will be before he craters, though.

well...it's not a free solo...a free solo would mean he climbed every pitch "free," that is, not hanging on gear. as moosmann said, there's a 150 foot pendulum...and there's aiding up the bolt ladder, and aiding around the Great Roof pitch, and probably up the Changing Corners pitch too...no one has freesoloed the Changing Corners pitch, as far as i know.

Ok, who is this Joker? Nice climbing through the easy sections, but I have to say this is a classic case of 'each to his own' it pretty much is the most unique style i've ever seen, climbing on fixed gear, and only actually freeing the easy sections, so weird. Why not just try actually lead something more challenging to yourself than stay at that level? You're also posing a huge risk to others by free soloing so maybe think about that too.

This "Joker" is Dean Potter. Read up on him a bit. Also, try reading up on this route.

It's also an impossible route to do a complete free solo on, because there is a section you can see in this video where you NEED a rope to do a 150-foot swing across to continue climbing up.

The moment you manage to free-solo a 3000-foot 5.14 route, you can call Dean Potter names. Until then, bite your silly tongue, go outside, and climb a rock.
