Ironic that the camp of intellegentsia of today is in antithesis to the views of these women. I think I enjoy the hosts comments more. And, yes, on a personal note I think all high art is not high at all.
@dancewomyn1 I completely agree. I have looked elsewhere for the rest of this discussion, without any luck. Susan Sontag is indispensible, I recommend her books to anyone interested in things that make us human.
@forgibas The interviewer made it clear that he was speaking as a devil's advocate for the larger bourgeois society who had been challenged by the film and by Sontag in her critique of art and literature.
She went to stage free performances of "Waiting for Godot" while Sarajevo was under siege, largely to draw attention to the West's slowness in intervening and stopping the bloodshed. I'm not quite sure how that makes her actions pro-"islamofascist" rather than just antiwar.
Whilst reading "Unholy Terror" by John R. Schindler (who worked for the NSA as an intelligence analyst) he referred to this Susan Sontag's sojourn in Sarajevo. She put plays on and he noted the incogruity of the PR job that a Lesbian liberal did for an embryonic, islamofascist government headed by a friend of Bin Laden, Alija Izetbegovic. Schindler used her as a good example of how the western, liberal, celebrity driven media were duped into supporting a regime which advocated beheading. Ironic
Who knows, maybe Schlinder was right. But let's hope Susan Sontag's time in Sarajevo left a mark on the Bosnians. At a time when Muslims were being butchered by the thousands and Sarajevo was being strangled and Clinton hesitated on whether to intervene or not, she was one of the few Westerners eager to build bridges to the Eastern world.
Even Susan Sontag could make mistakes.

Too bad the interviewer talked so much. It would've been cool to hear more of their thoughts.

I doubt you know what you are talking about, so it is best you don't say anything at all.

It's amazing to think that this interviewer was being genuine and relfective of society and conventions.
