  • my guitar and my hand both got destroyed :) thanks for the help

  • when shes going down with her thumb, is her thumb ever hitting the body of the guitar? or is her ring and middle finger hitting the body of the guitar at the same time the thumb hits the strings, kind of? trying to figure this magic out.

  • My thumb is bleeding, but i get it (almost).

  • god DAM its difficult

  • 1:50 that looks painfull

  • yeah sure, I'll just play a triplet like that O_O she's doing it as if it was nothing special ... I still don't get it

  • when i practice this cool skills of guitar or my nails where dead.... XD jk..

btw. can i use a string that is not nylon ..?

  • {*~*} Gabriela just made a fatallity on my guitar skills. ( flawless voctory)

  • I also use this technique and do a lot of percussion all over the guitar. I'm trying to find the best way to get my guitar mic'd up for this purpose. I'm getting different suggestions from guitar techs which include a piezo pickup mixed with transducer mic's or a piezo with a mic or even just a mic or transducers.

Would love to know what Gabriela has in her guitar

  • If you are trying to learn this and tearing up the skin on the back of each finger, try drumming it out on the back of the guitar (one that you don't mind beating up the finish on) and you can pick it up faster and with a little less bloodshed.

  • These guys make me want to learn how to play guitar. I've tried two times before but never got very far. But that was before Youtube and before I've ever heard of these guys :)

  • She makes it look so easy. She is awesome...and pretty darned cure too.

  • Gabriela is beautiful, her style of playing is one of a kind.

  • OK... I guess I'm the only female fan of Gabriela. I just think she's awesome. I can't get my fingers to strum that way to save my life! I'm just going to have to keep watching their tutorials and practice til I just can't practice anymore!

  • @Supafyn23 No, I like her as well :-D She's sooo great! I#ve been playing the guitar for a couple of years now. can't play the tripletts tho... way too hard! :/

  • arthritis of the wrist is what that will cause, r.s.i big time

  • If it wasn't for her, Rodrigo would still be a mediocre bum.

  • @xxestyxx

    Huh.......

    No

  • theyre brother and sister... idiots.

  • @watismynaam they're not brother and sister, they met in a metal band in Mexico. Idiot.

  • Are these two a couple, ie, romantically?

  • @ianrkav just sex, sex, and more sex

  • @mickmetallico Lucky Rodrigo:-)

  • Oh would i love a hand job from her!

  • @Serethen Hahaha nice one:-)

  • OMG! Is she married?...... Anyone get her number? So talented...

  • i see 20000 years of work in this video

  • ugh...she is great!!! i am so jealous!

  • He is a very fine guitarist, but SHE is really beyond belief. I finally have seen someone who impresses me as much as victor wooten. I'm gonna work on getting some part of this. Thanks so much for the video lesson! I think it would be a years daily work to play a third of what she does.

  • their live concerts of fucken insane or should i say FOC-ing insane

  • "Tacata"... She is lovely

  • best handjob ever

  • cool

  • love the way she say op to up, haha :)

  • She has a really beautiful smile.

  • Is there a name for this style of strumming?

  • @evanlad666

It's called rumba strumming. It's flamenco technique.

  • @sheebshag you are wrong, it's a thrash metal technique combined with his own style

  • @mickmetallico

'cause you really think that flamenco stole this technique to trash-metal ... ? Sheebshag is right, it comes from flamenco.

  • Comment removed

  • @evanlad666 Yes, it's called your fingers hurt.

  • this is soo hard....grr i wish she would teach me

  • she looks like kirk hammett

  • @Caboose2320 Hahaha! ya she does! I saw a screen shot on the left part of the screen and I thought it was a metallica video for a min!

  • Thanks for uploading this vid! much easier to understand than similar videos around. check out my guitar videos, especially if your a dubstep fan!

  • SHES A FREAKING BEAST....and sexy

  • my hand hurts but it doesn´t metter XD

  • this is so so hard to do, grrr

  • class

  • imagine her giving a handjob...

  • @daewood Imagine you not having a juvenile mind in the gutter. Imagine you not being the mentally 12-year-old imbecile that you are. Imagine looking in the mirror and realizing what a sick, sad life is staring back at you. Imagine- Well, if you could imagine, then you could think.

  • What I don't get (or can't see) is at 1:34 where she's talking about the first technique. Here, she's going DOWN with her ring and index fingers and DOWN with her thumb.. but then when she speeds up it sounds like she's going UP with something, making it sound (to me) like the DOWN with index/ring finger and UP with thumb technique that she explains a little later. What am I missing?

  • @kumaraisin You kind of answered your own question bud... It's similar to the double-thumb technique on bass. The three hits you are hearing are:

    1. Middle/Ring down

    2. Thumb down

    3. Thumb up

    Hope that helps!

  • Casate conmigo Gabriela?

  • Gabriela, Thank you so much for this video! I am also a female performer passionate about guitar! I took 4 yrs of classical in Canada and since moving to Mexico and being a hotel performer I have taken up Rumba/Flamenco/Jazz styles. You are my favorite guitarist and I beg you to post more videos of your techniques! I wish I could take lessons from you!!!! You are the Gypsy Queen in my eyes! Love you! :-)

  • how in gods name is she doing that?? impossible...

  • ♥__________♥ gabriela i love you hahaah i like when you said "taka ta" hahaah so pretty!

  • ok, if your using a steel string its gonna, i think shes using nylon strings

  • my dads gunna give 1000 pounds if i learn one of their songs :L

  • damn i wish my parents gave me money for learning songs. it wouldbe a full time job

  • @dimebad Get a job

  • the skin below my nail is hurting .. whaa ..

  • @ayshstrings join the club

  • Gabriela ♥_♥ !

  • i love her voice its sexy

  • This video is amazing, ive only been playing for 2yrs and started to concentrate on my classical acoustic. been trying all weekend to play like this but think it will takes months!

Would love to hear your views on a few of my uploads?

will now look up more lessons by them.

  • There's something beautiful that's encouraged in Flamenco but I don't often see it in youtube videos.

Playing chords differently from how the boxes suggest. In Flamenco you break the first joint of your finger to play an A chord and still have 2 fingers free...

Springboard. Find @ least 2 ways to play each chord. It helps with chord changes and often frees up fingers for improvising and experimenting.

Just for fun, not to teach. But if you're a beginner getting stuck it helps.

  • This does feel more natural than a pick for me. So I looked up some traditional flamenco lessons, still feels more natural than a pick. I'll never master any of it, but at least I can finally have fun with a guitar.

  • she's HOTTT and super talented...

  • @Mikesafreakshow.... got that right lmao

  • wow this is exactly what i need to know. great points, great video.

  • la mina es una genia

  • she's fantastic

  • Does anyone know what she does after "the hit"? Does she strum up with the ring- and middle finger? It seems a bit complicated to play upwards with the thumb, when it's already above the strings...

  • it looks like she raises her strumming hand back up and coming back down with the strum... for the last one. but the one before it looks like she is strumming up after the hit. or atleas that is what my ears and eyes believe but magic no matter how simple it is always gets me

  • she is so cute :)

  • This is great.

Sounds great and I had a load of fun trying this out.

  • Hahaha!

    "Takata, takata"

Ingenious technique by a beautiful musician!

  • it maybe basic for some but for beginners like me it's awesome. She's a great guitarist and to simplify her technique so that beginners can understand is pretty cool!!

  • Many people seem to think they play flamenco. I'm learning flamenco and the only flamenco thing she did was the triplet rasgeo. The other strums are her inventions. Should she feel proud?

Well, they are making a good living at it.

  • True they are making a living at it. That's the beauty of musical commercialism. Thankfully music is always changing. Who knows, maybe Gabriella's technique of rhythm playing will become the norm in bossa nova by the time we're 60. I'm just not going to worship them for playing flamenco any more than I would Bobby Mcferrin for singing opera. Frankly, he doesn't and they don't. According to the current definition. The nice thing is that once the music snobs die things change.

    Love your post btw

  • @roycedavies i hate your opinions on music. stop degrading what we think is good. Just because its too simple or basic for you, does not mean its not amazing.

  • Looks like the glass is half empty on this one. I am not degrading anything. I'm just saying that all this talk about flamenco is unfounded that's all. I like to listen to them and haven't got anything against em. They just don't play flamenco. Amazing is in the eye of the beholder though and I'd be freaked out if our musical tastes were identical. Thank goodness we are all individuals. Thanks for the comment though!

  • well it seems pretty effective for her

  • Look he said "basic". "Basic" isn't the same as easy. Analogy. A figure 8 is a basic part of figure skating. To any real skater it's easy. Most people can't even stand up on the darn things so obviously it's not easy.

  • looks like a fun technique, but is there any way to use it in any other genres than classical/flamenco....not to offend anybody, but i hate that style. maybe useful in blues, reggae, or any genre that heavily relies on rhythm for that matter?

  • @kelseykbazar

Well being that Rod Y Gab play covers of Metallica, Led Zepellin, and Pink Floyd, I think you can use this style over a variety genres.

  • Unfortunately you'll have to pass right on by flamenco/classical to find this style of playing.........hence the "we used to be in a metal band from Mexico City" thing they are always waving around. They play pop. Definitely not classical nor flamenco as they stand today.

  • Actually if you slow down the tempo of a fast rumba strum you get something that works great for The Passenger by Iggy Pop.

If you just use the first movement of the fast rumba strum, you get something that works great for reggae and London Calling by The Clash.

The standard rumba strum down-up is essentially the same movement and feel as funk strumming.

What Gabriela does is basically that. Just take existing patterns and change the tempo/feel to suit the song in your head.

  • @NolitaDenise Thats pretty cool. I'm sure as long as time signatures line up, or even with a little creativity, you could apply a strum pattern to pretty much anything. All I am saying is that they don't play flamenco. You hit it right on the head. Their style is conducive to pop. I'll be waiting for someone now to give me the Miriam Webster definition of pop or something. Anyway good call on the strumming though and thanks for being positive! You rock!

  • Oooh here's a good one. Take that standard rumba strum. Instead of hearing taka-taka. Listen for chugga-chugga. The chugga-chugga's pretty much a blues shuffle. You can play it fast or slow, so long as you get that good chugga-chugga going.

The closest popular cousin would be Funk though. Gabriela's chicken scratchin' with the best of 'em, just in her own way and w/o a pick. Different chords and vibe u got funk.

  • Gaby te amo!!

  • shes beautiful, man

  • @xeamus She is slightly above-average, man. Buy some perspective.

  • keee sexyy

  • 2:14 ta-ca-ta!

    haha she's so cute lol

She seems to be just as amazing in person as in her music.

  • Its so nice that they take the time to do videos like this!

  • Gracias Gabi!! :) Que bien!

  • Serjlolipop, mmmm, me imagino por qué no se quedo contigo

  • i have trouble linking in the "hit" with the other movement.. any tips?

  • es interesante como lo enfocas, no asumes nada por ti mismo, la gente hace las cosas, tu no.

  • no asumes nada porque eres un cabron de mierda y lo sabes...

  • Damn, this is destroying my wrist...

  • its middle and ring first down then thumb down then thumb up...im praticeing it and getting it slowly...but its so important (as she said...relax the wrist start off slow...if you start fast then your whole arm stiffins up..i just pratice a few mins every day and its starting to work..

  • my left wrist is killing me; this is perfect to work on until it's better!

  • is the first one middle and ring finger down and the the thumb down or is middle and ring finger down and thumb up??

  • not that big problem to do this.... but the tip my fingernails keep breaking after some time Q.Q

it dont even work with nylonstrings xD

  • nice vid lol, gabriella's cute lol

  • lol, 2:16 "Takedah... takedah..."

    cute...

  • I finally figured it out. It's not a human hand. Something else been grafted on to her arm. Has to be.

  • hahaha shut the fuck up

  • fuck his is intense i finally got the triplets to 140 bpm but she must be at lik 220 or somethintg

  • can i learn that ??!! xD

  • en español,porfabor

  • excellent! ty!!

  • Sweet!

  • the future of acoustic guitar.Introduce it in schools with basic chords.

  • huh? i advise you to look up some of her stuff. cause i think you didn't look well enough.

  • really??? Where is your video master? Pease!!! I had been playing for a while now, and their music is amazing and unique.

  • man, she can slap you so hard with her right hand jajaja

    arrogant bitch jaja

    viva mexico

  • you sir, are a troll.

  • That is SICK

  • holy cow.

  • It seems to be so easy! :D (I practice this half year and its still ...very amateurish). Gabriela is amazing. Greetings for everyone!

  • haha got it...

    thanks a lot!!!!

  • Awesome! I can't wait to practice it!

  • You are amazing. Magical. And a Great Player. So, Gabriella, the Spanish-Guitar-Playing consist of several standard forms of strumming and plucking Rudiments. Having a Drummer's Wrists and full knowledge of the 26 standard percussion rudiments should do the trick. Thanks Gab. Why did I not see you on You Tube 42 years ago, when ,in addition to studying drumming, I studied Classical Guitar Playing, and always wanted to learn how to play like you. Nevermind, I look forward to my next life.

  • Omg thas awesome :) no words, just awesome !!

  • They're so good at playing their music, even though it's impossible to play

  • JESUS!!!!!! she talks so SEXY.

  • Amen

  • Did someone call my name?

  • its so hard to do :(

  • SUPER cute....

  • una chaketa.....

  • They both use hand-made guitars by Frank Tate.

  • thank you very much sir.

  • thanks, that really helps.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT GUITAR RODRIGO IS PLAYING???

  • its a nylon string. classical guitar i believe

i dont know the model though

  • OMG!!! thank you for fucking nothing!!!

wow nylon i couldnt tell!! FUCK!!

jesus christ does anybody, KNOW what guitar rodrigo is using.

and if somebody says "i think its wooden" im going to strangulate a fucking giraffe to death and back.

  • well...it does look wooden I must say

  • Rod doesn't play his guitar in this video....But the one he does play is an acoustic/electric six string (nylon). And foroparapente is correct, it is wooden. However, this wooden, six stringed beast will never afford you the talent Rod carries while playing. Rod's skill is a custom build by "creativity" and "practice". Although you can't buy it anymore I'd check Ebay for a Squire acoustic and that will at least get you started. Good luck and thanks to everyone who helped figure this out!

  • listen soft rock, if i needed to be bayed with a sarcastic deusch i would have asked i would have asked the dog across the street, not you, you talentless alt rock fuck.

    xx kisses :)

  • "douche", not "deusch", but in defense of all of our sarcasm...you were the one who asked youtube's community....then fouled up the forum with vinegar and water. Perhaps a sarcastic dog would be better suited to your particular pursuits.

And you're very welcome, feel free to request this community's assistance anytime.

    Sincerely,

    Soft Rock

  • i asked for a facts, not jokes.

im glad you have decided to speak on behalf of the youtube community. it really would take a pretentious young man such as yourself to think that your or anyones opinion mattered. someday you will grow up and realize that your not funny, witty, or even humorous. yet instead a dull witted deusché that everyone "puts up with" but until then little boy, stick to governing youtube and ruining the art of music.

    all the best,

    Liam

(and good luck with that hair cut)

  • chill the fuck out metalhead. no one is ragging on your music. so stop acting so superior.
