Beautiful country. I lived there as a child in the early 70's in Keflavik as a Navy brat. I loved it with the snow and earthquakes and to this day in my 40's I contribute living there to being an outdoor junkie. The past few years I have been thinking of planning a return visit. This time to bring my wife and hike the Island.
ok, i see the "February" now missed that i guess you sent "it's in DD/MM/YYYY does not say which date well as long as you didn't get stuck lol that's nothing, just a few flurries you should have seen REAL snow 110 mph winds, snow piled up alongside the barracks
I have no idea what you are referring to when saying : "It's in February DD/MM/YYYY The video is titled "Driving in Iceland 07.02.2008" ??? Evidently i am missing something
That was July 2 2008? OMGGlobal Warming = more weird weather. I was there 1957-1958, no snow in July and i don't recall any in June either Scary changes
I agree with @vicquial - five stars for the video. I found it informative and quite entertaining - a simple drive to work in Reykjavik with no speaking interruptions. Well done.
Greeting from Jim in southwestern Ontario, Canada.
Thank you for your nice comment and feel free to visit my lovely country some times. I have been to Canada once, stayed in Toronto most of the time so did not get to see any of the beautyful landscape that Canada has to offer!
I wish I could live there... That's one of my biggest dream, to live somwhere in iceland... Maybe after my Engineering Degree I could have a chance...
hey...nice video, i am from mexico i will go to Reykjavik on the last week of february and drive to Höfn, is it dangerouse to drive there.....think that in my country never snows and i dont know how to drive in cold weahter
All depends on the weather of course. If there is a lot of snow and ice, then i recommend flying or taking the bus...especially if you have never driven in snow or ice before.
If there is no snow then its pretty easy driving. Tarmac most of the way and very nice surroundings (although gawking at it while driving is not recommended) :)
You definitely need preparation for such a trip. Out of Reykjavik you will very likely need spikes or snow chains. I don't know what the ring road will look like. I would advise you to take some time to practice, and have more than the usual caution.
What a beautiful video.. and place!! Since some years, I dream to visit Iceland.. I think I could live fine there. I love winter, snow and cold climate (this is so strange cause I'm Italian)
Thanks so much for posting this. I want to go to Iceland so much, I'm obsessed with it. I looked up flights and hotels from Australia and it's going to cost around $25,000AUD just to go for two weeks (or 2,185,699.00 ISK approximately). I think I will have to wait until I can make it part of a longer trip to Europe.
Can you tell me, do Icelanders enjoy having tourists? If I were an Icelander, I think I'd want to keep the place to myself :-)
Tourists are becoming an increasing part of the Icelandic economy so we must be doing something right. As was stated by someone else then the price you are looking at is ridiculous!! I would look into connecting flights from some other europian country into Iceland.
A friend of mine just moved to Australia and i think they paid roughly 20% of the amount you are talking about :)
Lovely video .... which part of the city was this shot in? I used to live in Breidholt and did not recognise the area you drove through. I see it was a heavy winter this year then? :)
It was driving me nuts trying to work your route out in all that snow. I used to live in Porufell, opposite the shell petrol station :)
I never spent much time in Kopavogur as I worked for KK Blikk and KKontainer at eldshofdi 9, until they went bust.
After that I also worked with a friend of mine who owned Gaedabon, he sold that in 2003 just after I returned to the UK. A couple of my friends still own INOX ehf though :)

@Chuck88keys Well... the date is in Day/Month/Year so it's the 7th of February 2008. I'm surprised you didn't know that. :O

Yes its bloody expensive to travel to and from Australia..i know as i have similarily wanted to visit your country (and NZ).
Tourists are welcome in Iceland and always find plenty to do and see.
ellertj 3 years ago
It's cool to read that on this video because I'm going to Australia, New Zealnd, and Iceland next summer!
Trombworks 3 years ago
Yes, we do enjoy tourists, especially when we are drunk :P
but just over 2 millions in a direct flight ?
you should rather go to some other European country and buy the ticket there... it should lower the price to Iceland of about 2 mills I would think

I drove from the upper part of Breidholt into Kopavogur where i work.
And yes, the winter this year decided to give us a fair amount of snow....finally ;)
