It's quite depressing when you look at Windows 7 (and even parts of 8) how the UI has obviously not changed much at all in all these years lol. Task manager finally got a bit of love in 8 though haha.
I am getting old I think =[ My first computer was a single core with (already) 1000Mhz and a GeForce 2. Now my mobile phone has a 1,2Ghz dualcore... Argh...
@8Denkmeister8 Mine (one that was actually MINE lol) was a Windows 95 rig running a 400MHz Celron with 16MB of RAM and a 4GB hard drive. Was a BEAST! Haha, I wish, it sucked even then. My first custom build was a 1GHz Athlon, the first ever 1GHz CPU on the market in fact! Now I'm sat here with a 3.4GHz Quad Core and 8GB of RAM and several 2TB hard drives (still need more space lol), how times change.
@TalesOfWar Yeah, same here... still see the difference: Just got a 2500k and oc'ed it to 4,2Ghz. In comparison with my first gen. Core2Duo P7550 or even against an AMD 3700+ it's.... let's say there are worlds :) 3TB in external drives and 1TB internal. Same there^^ But I think this kind of Quadcore will last at least a couple of years.
The first computer shown here was literally one of the TOP END Highest quality you could get in 1995. No joke, that 200 MHz was actually pretty powerful back then, and he even had 128 MB ram in that! dang.
that last case looked like my chieftec dragon. I just finished a new build in it and also have a coolermaster hyper 212+ in it. I wish I had seen this vid earlier as I wasn't sure it would fit. I've uploaded a few vids of it from old to new build if you want to check them out.
All of the computers that you showcased here remind me of my old office, it was filled with computers from all the way back into the late 80s. Until I had to get rid of most of them to make room :( Sad day that was...
@Blackadder75 The Pentium PRO and P3 computers weren't working when I got them, but I refurbished them myself :)
The P3 was a smoker's computer and needed a new powersupply (it was filled with nasty smokey dust) and the Pentium Pro was missing a hard drive and I needed to get an AT-PS2 adaptor (also learned that you can't adapt from AT to PS2 to USB, I tried!)
@yottabit heh, i remember having a pc running qindows 3.1 that had such LED display and a turbo button next to it, it ran at 8 without the turbo, 25 with the turbo (but all the fans went into "hell broke loose" mode and were really really loud then)
@JT8D200C Like what Yottabit means. Most computers like that have a display that shows how fast the processor is going. And a lot of them have a turbo button that will make it go faster.
@69Polie69 No idea! It's an AT case, and likely some extended form factor. It actually had cutouts for a second redundant power supply so I don't know how common that was. I remember these cases were common when I was growing up but now your best shot would be ebay or a local junkyard.
also coppermine with 512 wasnt usual, especially not in 1999. and athlon 2000+ i dont know about anyone who would have wanted to buy lowest clocked model of this (in 04) brand new processor.
hey cool your newest PC uses the same case (Antec Performance Plus case?) as my newest PC! I have mine setup with an AMD Athlon II X2 250 3ghz, 4gb ddr3, 500gb sata, Radeon HD5570 vs intel. I would've gone intel, but right now I didn't want to spend as much on it.
well... i run a 128k hyperpi in my athlon ii x2 240 (stock freq.) while watching this vid and plying garena and it finished by 2.561 seconds. Not bad vs. i5???
@taejamhaha More like not bad versus the Core 2 Duo in my laptop, which finished 2 threads in 2.441 seconds. Bear in mind the i5 750 in my desktop finished 4 threads in 1.326 seconds! But the important thing to realize is that unless you are doing compute-intensive tasks these numbers don't really matter. Something like an Athlon II is more than fast enough for the majority of users these days!
@boomey5555 Hah, I used to have a huge collection of computer parts through all through the ages, so I would kind of downsize them and build the best computer I could from that era. Just happen to have 512mb lying around for the P3. My favorite is that the PPro has 128mb!
shit my ram does super pi 128k in 1.2s! computing has come such a long way! although i still like the old school way of PCs, so i might just buy a real cheap PC just for that nostalgic-type feeling (doesn't make sense since im 16 ¬¬)
@davejoshmom1 Unfortunately it can't. There is a version of the same motherboard that supports dual-CPU's, but this one doesn't. It has the traces where the second CPU socket would be. :(
Lol i remember the time my processor didn't even need a fan..
