Ghantasala is the greatest playback singer the country has ever produced. See his range in this song, he is at complete ease in all the 3 octaves, right from lower octave to the highest ni note in the highest octave. Rafi's o duniya ke rakhwale ( I believe is only in 2 octaves) or mann dey's jhanak jhanak (as somebody says here) are no match for this rendition of ghantasala. A true mixture of carnatic and hindusthani style filmy rendition without compromising classical base. Truly incomparable.

I am big fan of NTR, Ghantasala who were God's gifted combination to us... Rafi is Universal singer and not to be compared with anybody. So is Ghantasala who mastered in classical tunes but not so good in romance...

what do you mean by universal ? you should have a relook. I have experimented with many people (including musicians and laymen and even foreigners exposed only to western music - I too possess some music knowledge) who were made to listen exceptional songs of rafi and ghantasala - ghantasala was rated greater - his technical competency skills with combination of his golden voice clearly sweeps the game. Romantic songs, ghantasala was the king of telugu films, you are aware.

Both siva sankari and kuhu kuhu (hayi hayigaa) are a clear mixture of hindusthani and carnatic compositions, ghantasala could easily sweep in hindusthani style as well, a dominion of rafi, but rafi could not make a mark in carnatic style in kuhu kuhu (which rafi himself admitted) This proves about ghantasala's clear superiority as a musician. Ghantasala's  music direction capabilities was another edge to enable him to make a song peerless, his most majestic voice supported him.

In this video, to right hand you can find syamala dandakam of ghantasala, this was placed in rafi forum and other forums where mention of rafi was made, and a request was made to show any song of rafi which could be at least nearer to the style, rendition, difficulty, high pitch etc. etc. None could post a single of rafi in response to that. Sir, rafi was a great singer in hindi film world - even there kishore dominated. But ghantasala had no competition for his skills & talent.

Mr. Murthy, the comment was in response to one of the comments here, where in one was mentioning about o duniya ke rakhwale by rafi, in which rafi does not display the beauty as displayed by ghantasala in the raga - darbari kannada. Ghantasala was well above rafi in technical competency and skills, none can expect rafi to sing any of the sophisticated ragas which are for ghantasala a left hand game. For instance, kuhu kuhu song by rafi - rafi/lata rated ghantasala greater.
