this is one of the best guitars gibson has EVER made, and priced so cheap because its "studio" but seriously these are one of the best sound generating guitars ever, besides from the les paul custom 30th year anniv ed (sg body) but when they were selling these i didnt have 1600 dollars to drop on a sweet guitar lol

The les paul studio premium plus have got a AAA flammed maple top et sounds greater than a les paul studio because of the woods and the greater finition

I believe it has to do with the hardware as well as the wood finish. I "think" the pickups are better.

The ONLY difference is that the prem has a figured AAA top. Everything else is the same. Both great guitars.

the AAA top, (I think its lighter than regular studio), better finishes, "nicer" looking volume/tone knobs.

No dude, there's more.

The knobs are the same as a Standard, the trim (switch ring and pick-ups encasing) is cream instead of black.

Also, on some of them, there is a special cream truss rud cover instead of the regular black one. Finally, the two cover plates on the back side of the guitar are cream, not black.

I have one where all those cream things you mentioned are black. Although I must say that I bought it about 4 years ago, so I don't know if they still make them like that. I haven't seen one like mine in the stores for quite a while.

As far as I know the only difference at the time I bought it was the AAA top and gold hardware cover instead of chrome.

the diffeerence is the top. and nothing else.

studio -> maple AA top.

there's no sound difference at all.

wrong. It has a chambered body which resonates more sound. the thicker 59 neck also adds a little more sustain then the slim taper 60. when you play a studio premium plus you can notice the sound difference EASILY.

Also, it seems both studio/premium feature 490R and 498T Alnico 2 magnet humbucker pickups. Are they of the same quality?

every single pickup is wired differently but for the most part yes, the premium also has the thick rounded neck i cant remember if the studio is slim 59 or not.

I prefer the Resonating Chambered sound of the Studio. It has a certain Sweetness to it. Cleans Are Amazing on one of those.
